Pros: Home made fixings, generous portions, appropriately priced Cons: wish it had parking
I had my first visit to O'Groats last weekend for breakfast. I heard through several friends that this was the "best place to eat breakfast in LA" and I have to agree. It's been in business since 1982 which is a long long time in LA. Most restaurants ...

Pros: Great, great food. Super-friendly staff. Cons: Sometimes you have to wait, but it's worth it.
It'd be hard to pick my single favorite place to eat in Los Angeles, but if you twisted my arm, I'd have to say John O'Groats.
My reasons for saying so are myriad and complex, and take into account every detail of the experience offered there...

Pros: Inventive versions of familiar staples, friendly chef Cons: limited street parking, long waits for breakfast
John O'Groat's is the kind of small, neighborhood restaurant that you hesitate to recommend to friends, because you want to jealously guard this wonderful find for yourself, for fear that it will soon be over-run by people from all over town, which they...

Pros: Smells great from the outside. Cheap coffee while you wait in line. Cons: Food may be served cold.
Though I had a decent eating experience at John O'Groats, my partner did not. After waiting 1/2 hour outside and another 20 minutes or so to be waited on inside, our food finally arrived. My boyfriend's huevos rancheros were icy gold; my old-fashioned...

Pros: Easy, good, sweet Cons: Not trendy if that's a concern.
This is another of those LA institutions that have survived the years, the trends and the introduction of cafes where mediocre pastries and overpriced cappuccinos are the stars. It's a sweet and small place on Pico Blvd., impervious to changes in ...

Pros: Best breakfast in Los Angeles. End of discussion. Cons: long wait, horrible parking
I have never had a better breakfast in LA, and I've been to almost all of the top-rated Zagat breakfast spots. Lotsa items like buckwheat pancakes and real maple syrup that you just can't get anywhere else any more.
I have never had to wait...

Pros: Fresh, well prepared food Cons: The crowds
You may not be able to make a reservation, BUT you can call in and put your name on the waiting list so that by the time you arrive, you will be close to the top of list. Well worth the wait because the food is REAL. When I'm there, I feel like I'm...
