Disappointing
by jasonm76 ,Aug 24 '07
Pros: Classic styling and nice look for the money. Cons: Not enough pressure for crema, messy.
Ive been disappointed at the performance of my Jura Capressa. It doesnt seem to generate the 18 bars of pressure that Jura claims: it takes forever to push out espresso, and theres very little crema. It doesnt matter how coarse my coffee grind is.
The Jura also requires a lot of maintenance to push out any coffee, even if using a burr grinder to avoid coffee dust. The daily routine requires unscrewing the top screen and scrubbing the screen and filter; taking about 15 minutes. The weak spot seems to be the design of that top pressure screen.
There doesnt seem to be a way to discard the used grounds without making a mess. I havent had this issue with previous espresso makers- Im not sure what the difference is.
Im still looking for an espresso maker in the sub-$200 range that makes a good shot.
