Pros: excellent fries and onion rings, wide variety of fried seafood, trendy Cons: overpriced, in general food only fair to middling
Boston has a strange predilection for combination seafood and roast beef joints. Invariably these are independent fast food spots bordering on dives. I've never seen these two foods combined with such regularity anywhere else. I must admit the pairing ...
Pros: Good chowder; free parking Cons: Average food, unpleasant decor.
When I was growing up, whenever we were on the North Shore, my parents would drive to Revere beach to get clam chowder at Kelly's. At that time, Kelly's chowder was legendary because each serving was full to the top of the bowl with clams. In that era, ...
Pros: simple and basic sandwiches and platters, large portions, tasty and good quality food Cons: customer service can be lacking at times, not a very extensive menu
Inventor of the roast beef sandwich? Im not so sure on the validity of that claim, but Kellys does offer a good roast beef sandwich along with some other American seafood fare dishes that are quite good. At times though, poor ...
Pros: Cheap, quick and tasty platters, two convenient locations in Revere and on Route 1 Cons: Not a place for vegetarians and dieters
It brings back childhood memories to think about Kelly's. Ever since I was little, my parents used to make it seem like a special occasion to treat us to lunch at Kelly's on Revere Beach... To order a fish & chips platter and take it down to the beach ...
Pros: Clean restaurant, clean restrooms and overall good food. Cons: Food delivery service different at restaurants. Don't like them hollering my name.
I rediscovered Kelly's at the beginning of the summer and have been pleasantly satisfied with it. I especially like the restaurant in Saugus as it's an easy in and out on Route 1 on the way to the airport. I love their clam chowder as it's not thick and pasty..I know many think the kind you can stand a spoon in is great, but this is creamy and loaded with clams. Their fried food like the scallop plate is not greasy and the lobster roll can be split if you wish to pair it with chowder. All in all, it is what it is and I think they do a very good job for a reasonable price. They have mostly young people working who are short on personality, but I'm not there to chat with them anyway. I remember stopping at Kelly's many many years ago with my folks when we were in the Boston area and they've really come a long way.
Best Food in Massachusetts!!!!! by peachespoint ,Feb 21 '08
Pros: THE BEST ROAST BEEF AND LOBSTER ROLLS IN MASSACHUSETTS! Cons: They are always busy
My family and I have been eating at Kelly,s for the past 20+ years, they have a consistent product that you can't find anywhere else in the Boston area. The roast beef is always perfect, ask for it rare and you get it, want it well done and they will make it happen. The seafood is to die for the BEST lobster roll I have ever experienced and the clam chowder is PERFECT not thick like all the other restaurants in New England. The store is spotless, when you have clean bathrooms you have a good operator. They are not perfect but they seem to care. Always a treat when we feel hungry.
Kellys is getting to big for its own good by ken692 ,Feb 25 '08
Pros: its open late 1pm and close by, fast when your in a hurry Cons: fish plate could be better and not just a big plate of french fries,
I have been to Kelly's Roast Beef many times, from revere to sagus and the new store in Medford, the first few times in Medford the roast beef was just ok, and the last few times it was horrible. I don't think I will be going back. just going to get some supermarket meat, and not get a sandwich that is full of gristle and fat. most of my bad experiences was with the with the drive thru, and the roast beef.
