Complex but worth it

by j6494 , Dec 28 '02
Pros: Dolby Digital EX for less than $300
Cons: Complex to set up
This receiver at less than $300 has many features that are typically found on much more expensive receivers. This is the cheapest receiver around that gives Dolby Digital EX (DD EX)sound (6.1 channels). You also get Circle Surround II decoding (6.1...

KENWOOD is good

by klev1 , Oct 19 '02
Pros: Powerful, Loaded with features, CC2
Cons: Musical reproduction "good"

I purchased this Kenwood VR6050 and returned it the same week. Why? Simply because the Onkyo SRS500 gave me better sound for the same price. The Kenwood is a good receiver with many features and plenty of power. The bass will shake your walls...

Murder to Set Up Tremendous Performance
by dnmadge ,Aug 28 '05
Pros: Unbelievable sound
Cons: A killer to set up. The worst electronics manual in the 20th century.
I spent half my vacation trying to figure out the manual and wound up having four controls. Other people wishing to use the system connected to a 27 in. Zenith TV, a DVD and a VHF complain vigorously about setup with the four controls. However, once operating it gives a good account of itself on 5.1 Dolby, but does not match well with the Cable company's S-Video output. Methinks the problem lies with the cable company. My wife is launching a campaign to rid us of "The Beast", but my sado-masochistic obsession with this "enfant terrible" of the electronics world may win out.

--I have no "hiss" when i use my system. If you experience hiss(and it's not the sound source/signal cable), get a line conditioner.-

The only thing that i dont like about this receiver is the amplifiers ability to cover every portion of the frequency range. It's strong in the lows and highs but is missing something that the harman/kardon amps always seem to have. There is more definition and vibrance in the mid/high range. But this kenwood comes close!

I was debating on which stereo receiver to buy, but kenwood brought out this amp with exactly the same specs except for a .01% THD difference for the front, center, and right channels. Which is really good since its near the same price but with 5 channels and all of the other goodies.

So, get this amp, its good... and etronics has it for $240. This amp is a steal.

Compared to the "HK 3470" ~$350-400

This reciever has all the...
by wankel_md_dt3000 ,Aug 09 '02
This reciever has all the features and even more than I need. For my front speakers I needed a decent amount of power and it has delivered, this reciever really pushes them. It also delivers strong clear bass to my sub. My only real complaint about the unit is the constant "hiss" heard through all channels even at low volume levels. For loud movies and music it's great, for low volume easy listening the "hiss" drives me crazy.
