Pros: Great Indian restaurant with an open air tandoori. Cons: Zero.
I thought it was pretty gutsy (stupid) when Khana Peena opened up across the street to Berkeley's most popular Indian restaurant, Ajanta. Much to everyone's surprise (and my secret delight), the food at Khana Peena is better. It's less pretentious,...

Khana Peena - Oakland, College Avenue. Bland, tasteless food.
by dabbu ,Oct 01 '05
Pros: Ambiance is OK Cons: Bland food. Expensive. Service is totally off.
The ambiance is good, but the food is mediocre - it is bland, tasteless. While the waitress was polite, the service was really off. They brought our food while we were still working on the appetizers, and the wine halfway through the meal. No one came to check after serving us either - the gave us a pitcher of water, and that's that.
We did not have a bad experience, but the food is plain and simple mediocre, and expensive to boot (even the naans range from $2.50 to $3.50, and beer is $5.00). They gave us a very small glass of wine for the lowest priced $6.50 one.
