Pros: Special discount offers all year long; Merchandise discount when you sign up Cons: High interest rate
I have owned and operated dozens of different credit cards over the years. Everyone knows that excessive credit card usage can be hazardous to one’s financial health but I have always managed to keep my credit card debt under control and I am often quick ...
Pros: get extra savings by being a card holder, easy to read statements Cons: can't view account or make payments online
Kohls is one of my favorite stores. I remember when they first opened here in Nashville, TN. It has become my one stop shopping for every occasion. I buy birthday and Christmas gifts there. I buy clothes for my entire family there, which ...
Pros: You are notified at least ten times a year of special deals. Cons: Typical department store credit card = high percentage rate if you keep a balance.
There are a couple of brick and mortar/online store combinations which would like to offer me stock in their company. Not really but if they did, Kohl's would be one of them.
I shop there all of the time. I really like the...
Pros: many ongoing promotions to cardmembers Cons: high rate of interest
I love this store. And yes, I am a GUY writing this on here, and I don't spend all day at the store, but I think that it's one of the best stores around. I am a bank manager who needs a store that can outfit a guy with decent dress clothes and not ...
Pros: Great place to shop so multiple discounts with card are appreciated. No annual fee. Cons: High interest rate can zap you if not careful with monthly repayments.
I thought Kohl’s had cornered the market on sales gimmicks but I didn’t complain. I liked shopping there every now and then. Hubby did too. We also liked shopping on their website on occasion. A few years ago, as I was prepping for tax time, I looked ...
Pros: Saving opportunities of 15% 12 times a year.
Cons: High interest rate.
Firstly, I would love to say that this is an update, and not for any negative reasons, this is just a friendly update with the positive progress this product has made in the year or two since i originally wrote this review. I have been a customer of ...
Probably my Favorite Department Store! by Teeka ,Dec 22 '03
Pros: Lots of sale dates... lots of coupons and promotions Cons: Have to use your credit card for the coupons
I have credit cards for Macys, Strawbridges, Sears, Penneys, etc etc. but the one that is getting worn out is my card at Kohls. From September to December they are having constant sales. PLUS, they send you at least 10 coupons during the year for additional 10% or 15% off. And that includes sales prices.
This happened to me: Saw jeans I like.. $34, went on sale 50% off, had a coupon 10% more off the price, final price $15.30. The only thing better would be if I bought it on a day where they offered a free $10 gift card for every $50 purchase!
The only 'con' I can see by having a card is that most sales require you to use your credit card... no biggie, you can just go back to customer service or a cash register and make a payment on your card at the same time - easy enough to do.
Finally, I want to say that the store just seems to have the kind of clothes I like, my husband likes, my son likes and lots of nice housewares. That could be a big factor!
Beware! They live on late fees and finance charges by mikejyg ,Feb 10 '09
Pros: they give you deals. Cons: they find ways to charge late fees and finance charges.
Since I haven't seen a statement from Kohl's charge card for a while, and went online to check. Shockingly, I found that they have posted a late fee of $29 and finance charge of $2.83, and I swear that I have never seen their statement!
I called the customer service, and complained that I have never received their statement. First, the rep says that she can remove the late fee, but not the finance charge, and I have to pay it over the phone immediately, with a $10 fee. Something is smoking.
After much arguing, and my demand to talk to someone who has the authority, she agreed to remove both, but only after I pay the amount, soon.
I don't mind too much about the extra money, but the way they conduct this is highly suspecious. It seems to me, this is in the realm of scam, and it is from a likable retailer!
Credit Card Payment Dings..... by captaintim ,Dec 13 '07
Pros: good quality merchandise Cons: no longer the best kept secret
One thing about getting the Kohl's credit card bill in the mail is that they don't send it early enough for you to make a payment on time; therefore, dinging you for the twenty five dollar penalty payment if you have more than a fifteen dollar balance left on your credit card account. And of course most people will have more than fifteen dollars on their account so that part of it REALLY peeves me off, as it's happened to me in the past. I almost think this is done on purpose to recoup the deals that is given to the buyer throughout the year. I do love their products and I love shopping there. I really like the Kohl's money that you can earn at certain times!! Of course, I'm always making a trip or two back over the border each month to spend it (as I'm from Canada).
I do enjoy the 10% savings the ten or twelve times a year that I use them and this is on top of sales promotions, which is not really allowed at other department stores.
Pros: Interest free billing (certain states), easy payments at the store and online. Cons: The upgraded account, MVC (gold) expires, requiring an annual spend of $600 to requalify.
In certain states (Colorado being one) Kohl's credit offers interest free billing as long as the consumer pays 1/3 or $50 of the balance, whichever is greater. Let's say you buy $150 worth of clothes for the kids, you receive your statement and as long as you pay $50 you avoid a finance charge. The next month (assuming you do not add to the balance) you pay another $50 and on the third month you pay the remaining $50 without ever paying a cent in interest. This is on top of the many coupons you will receive throughout the year. Kohl's also offers payments at the any register as well as online free of charge. Kohl's also offers an upgraded account called MVC (gold) after you spend $600 in a specified time period. The MVC card offers even more discounts. In a world of credit cards, store charge cards are getting harder to defend, but the Kohl's charge is a smart choice.
Will no longer use my Kohl's charge! by yepok ,Apr 28 '08
Pros: Waived fee when I complained Cons: Late fee posted prematurely!
I suspect Kohl's is trying to make money off of their $25 late fee. I was charged the fee once after not having received a bill in the mail. I was again charged because the received a payment two days late (It was due on the 19th, I mailed it on the 15th, but they claim they did not receive it until the 21st) They waived the fee reluctantly & acted like I was trying to get one over on them because they had waived the fee once before (when I never received the bill). I was told I needed to mail payment a full week in advance. I planned to use Kohl's on line often this summer because of gas prices, but will find a new store to shop at - I'm now afraid to use the charge!
Pros: Credit account is closed. No more worries about deceptive practices. Cons: Deceptive and greedy trade practices. Lose / Lose situation for all involved.
My wife and I had credit accounts with Kohls. Our payment due date was on the 6th of each month making it easy to manage because I pay my bills on the 1st and 15th like average consumers do. Our December 2008 statements had the due date changed to December 31st without notification per the account agreement. I paid the bill as usual on the 1st and was charged $29 late fee. Chase bank is the holder of the agreement. They chose to change the due date for whatever reason. The only reason that comes to mind is to make money on the late fees. Well, to make a long story short, I canceled my account and my wife is canceling hers. I will no longer do business with Kohls and I will never do business with Chase bank again. They can keep their $29 dollars. Instead of being honest and making some money through the credit agreement, now they won't make any...from me or my wife at least. And I will tell everyone I know about this experience and warn them of the business ethics that Kohls and Chase bank chose to use against loyal customers.
Fraudulent Late Fees and Interest by eentile11 ,Feb 22 '09
Pros: Kohl's has great prices. Cons: I believe Kohl's adds fraudulent late charges and interest to statements, hoping people won't notice.
I have an excellent credit rating and NEVER pay my bills late. The last 2 times I used my Kohl's charge card, it took 2 months for me to receive a bill, and each time, there was a $29 late fee, as well as interest, on the statement. Each time, when I called to complain that I had never received the first statement, the customer service person agreed to remove the late fee but not the finance charge. I think most people would just pay the fees, thinking they had forgotten to pay the first bill. Kohl's is probably counting on that. I just received a Kohl's statement where the same thing happened. This time, when I call, I'm going to tell them that this is happending too often to be accidental, and if they give me any trouble about reversing the fees, I will contact the authorities. Pay CLOSE attention to your Kohl's statements!
Kohl's - now "Chase" - same Chase late fee scam by junk4josh ,Nov 16 '08
Pros: Kohls charge gives access to great deals on sales. Cons: changing a customer-selected due date to collect late fees is ridiculous.
We have shopped Kohl's for years, love their deals and the quality of their merchandise.
Last year we took advantage of their "change your payment date" feature, and we moved it to the 18th of the month.
Last month we set up our online payment to go through on the 14th, early in case anything went wrong. Without warning, (other than the bill, which is their technical legal defense), our "custom due date" had been moved up to the 12th.
$25 late fee and over 20% interest on current purchases are ours to deal with.
As I searched online for others dealing with this problem, I came across many people with Chase credit cards complaining about identical practices. Then I read that Chase bought Kohl's credit card business in 2006.
Summary: Kohls is a great company, but they corporation that owns their credit division has a less stellar reputation. The sales and discounts offered for using the Kohls Charge Card are fantastic. But I don't know that it's worth the feeling of being cheated out of your money later. Beware of this underhanded tactic to gather late fees and interest.
