  • Should You Use The Krups Burr Grinder on Your Precious Coffee Beans?

    Jan 3, 2009 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: inexpensive, replaceable, fine control settings, reasonably quiet
Cons: creates more coffee dust than I'd like

Summary: Short answer: a qualified Yes. Qualified, because if you have more money to spend on your coffee, there are much better options, but definitely, spend the money for a burr grinder, not a blade grinder. But this is Epinions, and a longer answer ... read more

  • A SERIOUS piece of junk!!!

    Dec 25, 2011 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Kinda looks good...I guess
Cons: everthing other than the machine's appearance leaves much to be desired

Summary: I love my coffee and all I need is a coarse grind for a  french press as well as the right grind for espresso. Neither are produced by this machine of mine even after countless tries. Thankfully I used a pound of cheap coffee to discover the ... read more

  • Krups GVX2-12 Burr Grinder: An Exercise in Futility

    Mar 18, 2010 by

Pros: High class looks. An excellent doorstop.
Cons: Poor engineering design. Functions poorly at grinding coffee.

Summary: BACKGROUNDI purchased a Krups GVX2-12 burr grinder from Boca Java, a custom coffee roaster in Florida that provides a coffee delivery service -- a very good company, by the way. Boca Java was converting their rewards system to cash rebates ... read more

  • Grinding your way to contentment

    Feb 2, 2009 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Good for the money. Takes up precious little counterspace. Elegant design aesthetic.
Cons: Printing on item could be clearer. Receptacle container needs improvement of operation.

Summary: Like many Americans, I love my coffee in the morning. The feeling of caffeine running through my veins to wake me up and get me moving for the day is just what I need. Yet I am no coffee snob. I cannot taste the delicate, distinct ... read more

  • The Worst

    Oct 13, 2008 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: easy to clean
    Cons: Basically the entire machine.

Summary: I got this machine because of the name, the price and reputation of the brand. However, I soon discovered that buying this machine was a major mistake. Fromthe very beginning, the grind was very uneven, beans would not feed into the burrs, the selector ... read more

  • Good for what it is - a cheap grinder that grinds well

    Jul 23, 2008 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
    Pros: Consistent grind, quiet
Cons: Clogs easily with oily beans, static

Summary: When I bought my http://www1.epinions.com/conte nt_422888115844 I realized that my old Mr. Coffee blade grinder was not going to be up to snuff in producing a consistent grind fine enough for this machine. While many coffee purist sites say that you ... read more

  • Decent but Problematic

    Mar 11, 2008 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Styling, German engineering looks, cup and grind selector knobs
Cons: clogs or jam consistently, uneven grind. Quality control issues

Summary: I have owned a few grinders in the past, (Braun KSM2 blade & Cuisinart DBM-8 burr) and I had high hopes for this model. Being the Krups brand with German engineering, I purchased this model from Macys November 2007 after donating my Cuisinart to my ... read more

  • Krups GVX2 - a good starter grinder

    Oct 18, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Small footprint, attractive design, easy to use
Cons: Creates a fair bit of dust, beans get stuck

Summary: With the recent purchase of a Francis! Francis! X1, I delved into the world of espressos, cappuccinos and gourmet coffee. Not satisfied to drink coffee made from easy-to-manage pods or already ground beans, I decided to investigate different tastes by ... read more

  • Broke down - replaced - broke down again.

    Jul 20, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Made great (!!) coffee ... as long as it lasted.
Cons: Tried two machines. Both broke down after a few months of light, careful use.

Summary: I bought this grinder 10 months ago. After about six months of daily use, it simply stopped working. The store gave me a new one. Four months later, the new one didn't stop entirely but something went wrong internally. The coffee grounds took on a smell ... read more

  • Does what it's supposed to....

    Jan 23, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Freshly ground coffee, good coarse/fine grind settings.
Cons: Bit of dust, bit loud

Summary: Let me first start off by stating that this is one of only two consumer-grade burr grinders I have experience with, and it's worth stating that this one is my preferred of the two. Another relevant point is that I like to enjoy my coffee straight. No ... read more

  • Nice features, too noisy

    Dec 25, 2006 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Great design and look. Nice controls. Power override switch for a quick bump or shutoff.
Cons: The intensity and note of this machine's sound were irritating and unpleasant.

Summary: We bought this to get fresh-ground flavor into our press-pot coffee maker. Getting pre-ground coffee is nice, but a pound lasts too long at our house and the ground coffee is "off" after a week in our canister. So our first burr grinder was the GVX2-14. ... read more

  • Fine grind ok for expresso awful for Coffee

    Jan 22, 2012 by
    Not rated yet
Pros: Nice looks fit and finish. Useful for an expresso lover only.
Cons: Fine grind makes the Krups unacceptable for drip coffee makers.

Summary: The Krups burr grinder is only useful for expresso grinds. The coarse grind is fine and the fine grind is powdered. Unfortunately I use a french press for coffee rendering the Krups useless for my daily brew. It is too fine even for drip coffee makers. ... read more

  • Not great with oily beans and makes a mess

    Mar 1, 2008 by
    Rated Show
    Pros: The result is good
Cons: Slow, messy, has a hard time with oily beans

Summary: If you like oily dark roasted beans like Peets, you need to constantly shake while grinding to get the burrs to "catch." Also, as another reviewer said, it makes a mess due to all the static. Those two things aside, it grinds well, but after using it for ... read more

    Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Breaks easily, messy to use with the static.

Summary: I bought this product on Friday from Macys. Used it twice and it broke. I brought it back and got another one. That one broke after one use. I am using Starbucks beans which I know are oilier but give me a break. It should not have broken this ... read more

  • Grind too coarse, if it works at all

    Mar 8, 2007 by
    Rated Show
    Pros: Nothing
Cons: No way to adjust grind manually

Summary: My machine gives an espresso grind at the coarsest setting, and often just stops grinding and spins until it overheats and stops itself. Shaking the thing sometimes reactivates it, but it is obviously not adjusted properly. I don't want to buy ... read more

Pros: Good for home use. Good consistent grinding.
Cons: A little too slow and too much static

Summary: I wanted a grinder that had good volume. This one does, but it is very slow. I wanted something for doing 12 pots a day but I would be grinding all the time. I also can't imagine how the coffee grinds would be scattered all over; the grinder generates a ... read more

Pros: small, quiet, easy to operate.
Cons: does not make an espresso grind.

Summary: I wanted to like this unit. It is small, solid, quiet, and simple to use. Unfortunately, I own a Gaggia, espresso machine and so I need a fine, espresso grind. Even though Krups claims that this unit will make an espresso grind, the unit I purchased ... read more
