Pros: water and energy efficient relatively easy to use Cons: reliability low warranty service is minimal
I bought an LG WM0642H Front Load washer from Home Depot. Initially, I liked the ease of use of the control panel and, of course, the water and energy efficiency. My clothes spun almost dry, which makes the dryer more efficient. ...

Pros: Quiet and efficient Cons: None so far
We just received the LG WM0642H washer this morning and I've used it once. I did a lot of research before making the purchase because I wanted to get something good and energy efficient. Before buying I researched pros and cons and read the manual. The ...

Pros: Get's clothes clean. Indicates that when using the machine that energy use is $18.00/year. Cons: Add reminder light (w/ easy reset) to clean the filter screen once a month.
We decided to replace our 20 year old GE washer and dryer after remodeling our laundry room. Reviewed/researched front loaders and decided on this LG model due to it's above average customer reviews. Bought the unit on-line from Home Depot ...

Pros: Eco-friendly, large capacity, spins clothes nearly dry, lots of options for cycle settings. Cons: Price, but this one is only a few hundred dollars more than a toploader.
If you're debating between a frontloader and a toploader, this is an excellent choice. It's at the lower end of the price range for frontloaders, and worth the money due to all the features it has. I bought the LG at Home Depot 3 months ago and am ...

LG Washer ... Great
by imo1001 ,Mar 24 '07
Pros: Value, Options, Reliability, Quiet Cons: none yet!
Wow! This is a great washing machine for the value. It has many options, both pre-programmed, and manual additions, to suit our laundry needs. (A growing family). It is very quiet, don't even know it is running. Pleased with our choice. The extra high rinse speed is also a great feature, some clothes are nearly dry after the wash is done.

Hate this washer!
by sdw8 ,Jul 15 '07
Pros: Yet to think of one. Cons: Smelly, due to poor design on door.
At first, I was thrilled to have a front load washer. After making sure it was level, about 10 times, I still cannot get the washer door to stop collecting water, then getting all slime like and gross. The water never drains out of the rubber on the door. I paid a lot of money for this washer, and I felt as though I was ripped off!!! Also, when they say the washer takes the same amount of time as the dryer, that is because the washer takes longer......what a sales pitch that was. 55 minutes for a normal load.

Horrible Machine
by gatorfan76 ,Sep 30 '09
Pros: energy efficient Cons: Poorly designed machine
I have owned this machine for 2 1/2 years and need to replace it already due to mold growing inside of the machine. And, BTW this is not a maintainance issue. I leave the door open all the time, wipe out excess water after each wash, empty the filter monthly, run cleaner cycles and products in the machine monthly, run bleach cycles, etc.... I have never had to put so much energy into maintaining a washing machine. Somehow, water is not draining properly and backing up b/w the gasket and the drum internally in the machine. I purchased this machine from Home Depot and I have the extended warranty too, but I have been told the problem is a flaw in the design of the machine and warranty does not cover the problem. I have spoken with LG and they don't seem to be concerned that their poor design (according to the repair man and Home Depot extended warranty dept) is an issue and I'm having to replace a 2 1/2 year old machine. Now all I can do is warn others, so they don't make the same mistake I did. Please don't buy this machine.

6 months with no problems
by kenevill ,May 19 '07
Pros: quiet, efficient, drier time greatly reduced Cons: none
When we bought this machine there was only one review; and we went with it. It has work magnificently and agree the only problem is the timid signal. I would recommend it greatly

I am in Love!!
by mom2kev ,Mar 02 '08
Pros: Extremely clean clothes, Pleasant sounding beeper, easy to use, easy access to dispenser. Cons: HE detergent a little more expensive than regular. May be hard to hear beeper.
Just purchased this washer and i could not be happier! We looked at this model and the other LG with the front panel controls and i decided that i liked this model better for the soap dispenser on top of the machine instead of a drawer that slides out. It is also really nice having a beeper that isn't annoying. It's amazing how little water it uses and how clean the clothes get. It feels like a traditional washer which i also really like. I did 6 loads that would have taken me twice as long in my old washer. the cycles are a bit longer but knowing that i am pulling out incredibly clean clothes when i am done is worth it.

Trouble after only 2 weeks!
by winnj29 ,Jan 02 '07
Pros: While it worked, it cleaned well & didn't use much water. Cons: Serious problem after only 2 weeks (won't spin).
After too many problems with our Maytag Neptune, we spent a long time reading reviews before deciding to purchase this washer. We have had it for 2 weeks & it will no longer spin & the display shows an error message.
When I called an appliance repair shop, I was told that they see many LGs needing repair. We might have thought that we had just bought a lemon, and that another one would be better, but this has helped us decide that we want to return it. I wish I knew what to buy instead! Unfortunately we very much prefer a front loading machine, for the gentle handling of the things we wash & the small amount of water used.

Happy :)
by i_luv_maui ,Aug 13 '07
Pros: quiet/variety of cycles Cons: none
We have been very happy with our LG. After about a month of researching we decided on this one. Our main concern was vibration from such a high rpm but i researched solutions to that as well. My husband went to the local tractor supply and got a stall mat for about $40. Many salespeople say to not even consider a washer like this unless you are putting it on a concrete foundation. Well, we live in a double-wide and the flooring is not solid on a slab. We reinforced the subflooring and cut the stall mats to fit washer and dryer. This raised the units about 2 inches. With our old top load washer the whole house would shake. Now, i can see the LG shaking as it spins but the stall mat absorbs EVERYTHING.. only on the highest spin at 1200rpms can you feel a faint vibration. It's a great machine and it's been nice to not have to take comforters to the laundrymat anymore :)

do not like it
by luna333 ,Oct 22 '07
Pros: nothing Cons: $$$ junk
I purchased the washer and dryer together. After 1 year and 2 months the dryer broke. It took about 8-10 service calls to finally fix the dryer. the LG customer service people were very rude. After 3 years the washer broke. The cloths started to smell moldy and the spin cycle stopped working. After the experience with LG customer service reguarding the dryer, I'm just junking both machines and purchasing a different brand.

Fantastic Machine
by mattdaddy ,Dec 09 '07
Pros: Super efficient, quiet and problem-free. Cons: Pricey but worth it.
Purchased the WM0642H two years ago--Dec 2005. The choice was based on its solid build quality and the fact that it was (at least at the time) the most energy efficient, full sized washer available in the US market. We have not been disappointed. It performs beautifully, has not needed any service and we're heavy users. It is quiet and smooth and the door seal has not exhibited any issues that have plagued others--leaks, mold, etc.
Very happy with this washer and dryer set.

Beware - Major Problem
by jk16902 ,Mar 08 '07
Pros: VERY quiet! Uses a lot less water. So far a great machine! Cons: Laundry detergent will damage the porcelain top if left for a time.
My wife and I recently purchased the WMO642HW washer. Overall it operates very well and we were satisfied with it. After a few weeks I noticed what looked like residue on top of the washer that was left from liquid detergent that had dripped onto the washer. Upon trying to remove the stain I discovered that it was actually embedded into the porcelain finish. The liquid detergent had eaten into the porcelain. Upon contact with LG I was informed that yes it can happen and was not covered by warranty. I am very disappointed that a product meant to be around laundry products cannot withstand spilled liquids. Never had any problem with all previous washers.

Very happy buyer
by michiganmann ,Mar 07 '07
Pros: Super cleaning, high efficiency, ease of use, great value. Cons: Made in S. Korea, dryer not fluffing clothes properly when nearly empty
Purcahsed the matching washer and dryer from Best Buy. Completely happy with the products. I too look for laundry to wash. The clothes are cleaner and the washer has made a huge impact on my water bill. I've only had the washer for 2 months, but this washer may reduce my water bill by 15-30%
My only complaint (minor one) is with the dryer. The slats inside the drum are large and if there are only 2 to 3 items remaining in the drum, the items stay "stuck" on to these slats and do not fluff. I have noticed this with shirts that will not fluff properly and stay wrinkled. Irritating, but like I said, this is my only complaint so far.
I recommend them highly.
P.S. If the American brands were of similar quality I would have purchased American, but LG seemed a better quality product.
