Pros: Washes extremely well, compact, no vent required, mechanically reliable Cons: Vibration and touchy balancing on old floors
I bought the LG WM3431 to replace a washer dryer combo. Since I live in a third-floor apartment with no washer hookups or venting for a dryer, a combo unit that runs on 110v current is the only solution for me. Plus, once you get used to having it all ...
Pros: no need for W/D hookup, Energy Star rating, good for small spaces, attractive Cons: noise and vibration during spin cycle, load balancing, instruction manual, child lock feature, price
(I've owned this machine for 5 days and used it once a day. These are my early impressions, and I will update after I've had more experience with using it.) Six months ago I moved into a cute little apartment, which was perfect for me except for one ...
Pros: 110 volts, ventless, compact, sensor drying, heated (160F) wash, 1400rpm spin Cons: maintenance issues require extended warranty, door stays locked, pump and chimes are annoying
Based on five years experience with two LG washer/dryer models, I hope to write a very informative review. (I bought the original model WD3243 when it was new, and when it stopped drying I upgraded to the new WM3431.) This is a good machine especially ...
Pros: Superior cleaning; Time and $$ saving choice for apt-dwellers Cons: Noisy; Lengthy cycles; Wrinkly clothing; Child lock sucks!
I've owned this machine for over a year (as of the writing of this review) and I still recommend it! I've had a loooong time to think about every minute aspect of this machine, so here goes... In 2006, I had just moved back to the United ...
Pros: Lots of features and options Cons: so far nothing (almost a year later)
I just bought the LG WM3431H washer/dryer combo. As long as it is dependable and lasts longer than the Equator 3612 (which died after 2 years and 4 needed repairs) I feel it is really worth the price I paid. What I really love about this machine is ...
Pros: Super convenient, easy to use, gentle on clothes Cons: Vibrations; not good for a big family or laundry-day people. DREADFUL customer service.
My husband and I bought our condo about a year ago and the only thing that we didn't like about it was the communal laundry room on the ground floor. With only one washer and dryer to share between three units, washing and drying clothes quickly ...
Pros: No more Laundromat, Sexy kitchen. Cons: Long cycles tie up sink, must convert to a "Night Washer".
After two years of hauling my laundry to the mat, a friend mentioned this unit to me two Saturdays ago. This Saturday my LG arrived and Im truly ecstatic. I read all the reviews on this site and found them to be quite accurate. Im in a ...
Pros: Uses less water, soap, saves energy/money on my electric. Small machine, rinses well, many features. Cons: Longer drying time, needs smaller loads, cleans less laundry at one time
I've used my LG WM3431 Ventless Washer Dryer machine for 5 months now, and I love it! No more "sharing" the laundry machines with my building neighbors is worth the price itself. This little machine is great for a single person and really gets the ...
Pros: It's small, designed for condo living... Cons: Design Flaws = repeat failures = ongoing neverending headaches!
Take a good look at the positive reviews written...it seems most of them are within a couple months of purchase. THEN look at the negative reviews and you'll start to realize...this thing will break down! I don't think I need to say much other than ...
Pros: well built, quiet operation, less soap use, great for small families, worth the money Cons: Haven't really found any yet! I'll update if I do but right now I'm satisfied!
I read review after review saying these all-in-one machines were a waste of money, didn't work like they were supposed to, had horrible instructions, etc...Let me tell you my experience. I bought this machine a few weeks ago. I had a few questions with ...
Pros: Settings, automatic dry cycle if choose, small size, beautiful appearance, energy efficient, affordable Cons: Nothing!
This washer-dryer combo is fantastic!! I bought it about 2 months ago. It is energy-efficient, so it doesn't make the PSE&G bill go up. Also, it doesn't pump large amounts of water into and out of the machine, so it can be connected ...
Pros: convenient, great interface, good design, low energy, low water, ventless, 115v power, all-in-one Cons: hard to get repaired
I love this machine--love it--with all my heart. We even named it. We've had it for 3 years even now with very few problems. Shortly after buying it, it tossed up an error code, but a BestBuy tech just had to come and reset the internal control unit (I ...
Pros: small, efficient, goes under the counter Cons: requires maintenance, service, needs the 5 year warranty!
I am going to give you the complete low down on this machine. I've used it for about 3 years and have figured out its ways. I've read many reviews on this machine before buying it as well as after my purchase. I found a lot of info to be helpful in ...
Pros: extreme convenience on a learning curve. Cons: Cannot use/think of this machine in comparison to traditional ones. (not so bad, really)
I am extremely pleased with the ease of installation and use. This machine cleans extremely well, and dries well, but with a much different feel than traditional dryers. There is a definite learning curve to making this machine work to the best of its ...
Pros: Clean clothes, no laundry mat!!! Cons: wrinkled clothes, price of unit, length of cycles generally much longer than stated, small loads
I live in a NYC apartment. I don't have the option of hooking up a regular system. I can wash my clothes at a laundry mat (a real pain in the rear) or I can wash my clothes at home with this LG combo machine. Thus, the compromise. You trade some ...
Pros: pretty, small, only needs 115v outlet and no vent, gets clothes clean Cons: takes forever to dry, "more dry" leaves clothes wet; drain pump noisy; lock irritating.
I replaced a stacked Maytag washer/dryer pair with the LG about three weeks ago. The LG is pretty, small, and gets clothes clean. However, it does not get clothes dry, even on the "more dry" setting. The moisture sensor seems to be miscalibrated, and ...
Pros: It really cleans the clothes, lots of cycle options Cons: some cycle options too long.
I bought this machine one year ago. I searched high and low online but at the time there was not a lot of info about the washer dryer combo. I am so happy with this machine. It really cleans the clothes well. It takes a while to get used to the ...
Pros: very clean clothes, tons of cycles to choose from, easy to use, love it Cons: wrinkled clothes, strong vibration, small loads, child lock
I moved into a bigger apartment and was able to have a washer and dryer. After doing the research and pricing different products, including stackables, I decided to go with this one. This product washes clothes and dries them all in one. It washes very ...
Pros: Compact, ventless, efficient washer Cons: Tough to get level
We have had this washer/dryer for two years. It is a very efficient little machine and would be perfect for a single person or to do lots of smaller loads for a couple. Most of the LG models fit under a standard kitchen counter, one does not. ...
Pros: Quiet. Cleans and dries well and gently. Very impressive and great-looking machine. Cons: Honestly, none so far. The longer cycle times aren't a problem for us.
Let me say first that, because there are so many wonderfully helpful and in-depth reviews already on the site here, I won't attempt to reinvent the wheel with mine, but will only share my experiences thus far. My wife and I have used this machine for ...
Pros: Works where few other units will and cleans efficiently. Cons: Needs lots of maintenance you may end up doing yourself.
I decided to write this review (my first, ever, anywhere) because this site provided me with vital information to keep my unit running over the past 3 years and I hope I can help others do the same. First some background and a quick review. ...
Pros: Fits perfectly into a dishwasher space Cons: a nice sized load could take a while
I live in a 644 sq ft apartment condo, and it had a 30 year old dishwasher installed when I bought the place. Being single and only owning 2 plates, I never used the darn thing. So I decided to replace the dishwasher with the WM3431 (exact same ...
Pros: Quiet, portable, works like it should. Cons: Only suitable for a small family
First off, before I shelled out the $1400 I read each and every review on this site (thanks guys!). Since so many reviews are spot-on when it comes to the technology and how it works here are my top line impressions: - Its a little bigger than I had ...
Pros: -Quiet
-Compact
-Small loads are easier to manage
-Uses regular 110V power
Cons: -Hot metal from dryer can burn.
-Child lock takes too long.
My boyfriend and I have a small condo with no available venting for a standard washer/dryer. In addition, we have a very small closet for the washer/dryer. We purchased the condo approximately 2 years ago with a Eurotech stackable washer and ...
The "Good Vibrations" review has thoroughly covered most of the operating procedures of the machine, and for the most part I can confirm all the facts stated in that review, but I would like to supplement it in a few areas. First, after schlepping ...
Pros: Works as described in other posts- but not for long! Cons: Catch 22- the needed recurring maintenance not covered under warranty. $200 to clear a vent.
It's great when it works, but it turns into a WASHER only in less than a year. Costly "maintenance" not covered under warranty. Get the washer only, you'll be schlepping to a laundromat to dry anyway.I read the reviews here and thought I was prepared for ...
Pros: I don't have any yet... Cons: Defects straight from the manufacturer.
I just received my new LG washer/dryer combo a few days ago and have been looking forward to spending laundry day at home today. As mentioned in the directions, I ran the washing cycle once without clothes to clean out the inside of the drum. Everything ...
Pros: one cycle, fits in small space, does not need a vent, easy controls Cons: capacity is small; the child lock is annoying
I bought this for a vacation home that had no room for a traditional washer / dryer. The LG WM3431 ventless combo was a perfect solution although I did have to give up some closet space. I LOVE that I can throw a load of wash in & just leave it ...
Pros: Awesome awesome awesome really awesome cool sexy hot fun barely legal android wicked groovy Cons: It doesn't play blue ray dvds or beep like R2D2 or massage my back/neck
I was expecting a useless mess of electronics that took forever to dry and made a racket and was impossible to figure out like the lousy things they have in apartments in europe. WRONG!!! This is the perfect thing for a tiny overpriced apartment in New ...
Pros: Easy, good cleaning, small, regular hookup. Cons: Remnant dirt transfers in dryer.
I am very happy with our washer. It does take about 3 hours to do a load, does not seem to clean as well as a regular washer and i have had some clothes come out looking dirtyish from the dryer, if they are a lighter color, with slightly darker fabrics, ...
Pros: compact, convenient, easy to operate, efficient, modern looking in platinum color. Cons: no lint trap, maintenance requires tools, long cycle times.
First I'd like to thank LEFTOVERPASTA for her review and hints on cleaning it, without her I'd have spent time, money and nerves dealing with a repairman on fixing the drying problems. LG customer service is horrible! I've had this machine for close to ...
Pros: Quiet, easy to use, small, no more laundry mat Cons: nothing yet
This machine is great. I've had it for 2 weeks and have no regrets purchasing it (so far). I've had to get used to the longer run times - but I put it on "less dry", take everything out, add a few shakes to the clothing, hang up (or put on a drying ...
Pros: good aesthetics and user interface. Cons: service from LG is very bad, expect a very slow process for repairs/replacement.
I ordered the WM3431 the end of January. It was installed the first week of February. The industrial design is great, the user interface is very well thought out, but that's about it. Eversince the first wash, we haven't been able to dry our laundry. The ...
Pros: Excellent washer and dryer, and cool look Cons: Dehydrated my Kitty. Very Expensive
My husband got me the LG WM3431 Front Load All-in-One Washer / Dryer for my birthday! He is so sweet. I liked it because it looks like a laundry mat, but nicer. Almost like a space thing. Well, anyway, this is what he bought me. and i love it. It ...
Pros: Compact and Do things right like what it supposed to do Cons: A bit noisy
This is a GREAT machine for the person or a few people who don't have any other option but has to have washer/dryer under the kitchen counter. I bought this a part of my kitchen renovation (I needed to go to laundry mat before), and this is my favorite ...
Pros: Cheap to operate, quiet (except when spinning), very compact. Cons: Somewhat small drum capacity.
Many of the complaints against this model have to do with it failing to dry properly after some period of use. How long it takes for this problem to appear depends on how much use and what type of items are washed. Frequent washing of throw ...
Pros: Quiet; efficient; green; washes and dries perfectly well; space-saving; cute bell (ding!); nice design Cons: You have to follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly (otherwise, you get soggy or wrinkly clothes)
We (my spouse and I) purchased the combo washer/dryer because we wanted to save space, and a trip to visit family in Scotland (and a peek at their kitchen) turned us on to the idea of a combo unit that can easily fit below the countertops in our ...
Pros: Very "green" Delayed start feature Reliable No need to move clothes from washer to dryer Cons: No lint filter requires periodic disassembly and cleaning
I really like this machine for the ease of use, variety of options, and the fact that it uses very little water and power. Overall I've had a great experience with it, but a few tips:Using the timed dry will dry your clothes MUCH faster ...
Pros: Small Space, Energy & Water Efficient - set it and forget it Cons: Finding a service contractor
This is a great unit, small, set it and forget it. But since NOVEMBER 2007 I've been trying to get it serviced to finish the drying cycle. I have had Home Depot/GE service/Indep Contractors out to try the repair. Several boxes shipped to the house. ...
Pros: compact ease of use Cons: broken after just over a year!!!
Bought item Feb/06. Worked well up until 5/18/07. I read a similar experience about this machine, in that the dryer time goes from 2hrs and 30 minutes, and then drops drastically to 3 minutes. The machine stops and clothes of course are still soaking wet. Called L/G and of course could not help me with any warranty because the year was up. I was not offered an extended warranty and wish I was now. Unfortunately I am stuck having to call an L/G tech and am afraid to find out what the bill will be. I did all the trouble shooting things and also did an QC and no error codes found. I hope the dryer sensor unit is part of the control board.
Excellent - when it works by wocograd90 ,May 04 '09
Pros: Cleans well; many options for wash and dry. Cons: Drum a bit small, unfortunate design flaw making ownership unpleasant.
I've wanted to love this machine for the entire 3 years I have owned it. However, it has required service at least 5 times. There is a design flaw that permits lint to accumulate in the vent tube utilized during the dry cycle. Eventually, water sensors fry, the tube clogs up, drying ceases. As it is under an extended repair/replacement warranty, I am beginning to explore replacement options. When it works correctly, it's an excellent machine, but the long-term serviceability just is not there. Oh, and in consulting with LG to see what the options were to try to avoid the lint issue, I learned they have just about the worst customer service/technical support I have ever encountered.
Pros: Very nice looking piece of equipment Cons: Too many buttons, something already wrong with either the electrical or the motor...who knows!
I own this item. Looks great..lots of fancy buttons. We've had it for 3 months and the motor gave out! I bought this at Best Buy and wonder if I'm going to be getting the run-around when I call them. Whatever happened to the nice dial washing machines which lasted years...or at least more than two months. What I have now is lots of flashing lights and a weird humming sound..oh, and lots of dirty clothes I have to haul to the laundromat tomorrow morning!
Pros: Great for compact spaces. Cons: Breaks after several months of use. Terrible customer service.
I got this sleek little unit to fit into a tight space. It worked great at first but after about 8 mos. of use, the dryer ceased to work properly. After a few months (and many hours on the phone) of dealing with LG's horrendous customer service department, I was issued a new unit. I have had the new unit for about 9 months now and it is having the exact same problem as the first unit.
LG WM3431 All-in-One Washer/Dryer by bar26 ,Oct 18 '05
Pros: Ventless, Compact All-in-One Unit, Whisper Quiet Cons: Drying Time
There is only one word to describe the LG WH3431 Washer/Dryer combo I purchased as a special order from Best Buy...WOW! The price listed is for the Titanium model.
Did tons of research before purchasing this product and it's everything I was looking for & more.
Ventless, whisper quiet & easily converted into a portable unit that you can hook-up to a sink with a LG Washer/Dryer Portability Kit. I purchased this kit online @ www.compactappliance.com for $75.95.
Because this unit is ventless the drying time is much, much longer than conventional dryers. But,in spite of that fact, I highly recommend this quality washer/dryer combo for singles & small apts.
Pros: Easy to use, quiet, does a great job. Cons: having to move it, but it can be installed.
I recently purchased this machine because I live in a high-rise condo and did not have the luxury of my own washer-dryer connections. This machine thus far it absolutely amazing. My clothes are so clean and fresh and not to mention it is quite easy to use at the sink and then roll into the storage closet. You will be amazed at how this process works. What a great product LG. ...7/27/07 Washed a down comforter and set the dryer, when I woke up this morning it was perfectly dry!!!!I love this thing...8/8/2007 I noticed on a review that I read before I bought this that someone complained about the clothes being wrinkled, well a couple of tips!! first of all, take the clothes out immediately, secondly when you do dress clothes, take them out while they are still damp and let them finish drying naturally, No Wrinkles... Call FJS Distributors they offer free shipping!
Pros: compact
115v electrical hookup
very energy efficient
superior cleaning Cons: tricky drying wrinkle-free
I bought my LG WM3431hw washer/dryer about a month ago, and i could not be happier. The manufacturer needs to put a big lable on the back saying "be sure to remove shipping bolts". My son set it up for me (without reading the manual) and i was dismayed at the vibration in the spin cycle (duuuh). I read the manual, had him remove the bolts, and now there's no problem.
The machine is attractive, and the ease of use and convenience is just what i wanted and need as i am disabled, and the less lifting of laundry the better. Once the bolts were out operation is darn near silent (the spin cycle sounds a bit like a b-52 when first starting), a must as i have an upstairs tenant who works nights.
It was a bit strange getting used to the condensing dryer, and it took some practice to learn how to end up with wrinkle-free laundry.
Pros: It's ventless so you can use it without access to an outside wall. Cons: It doesn't rinse out the soap, and leaves clothes wrinkled.
I'm waiting for Expo to pick the unit up and take it back. I don't know if this is typical but the unit I received is horrible. I can't use more than 1 tablespoon of high efficiency soap or there are still lots of bubbles even after the 3rd wash with extra rinse. The full dryer cycle is supposed to end with a 'cool down' mode that tumbles the clothes until you take them out, but it doesn't tumble, and the machine door stays locked for more than two minutes so everything wrinkles.
it's great if you like wrinkles by neil1967 ,Mar 27 '09
Pros: better than beating your clothes on a rock. I think Cons: See above.
How can anyone live with this machine? It takes 4:30 hours to do a small load, the clothes come out wet or, if dry, so wrinkled that they're unwearable without an ironing. The "miracle" of how it dries things, to circulate heat and then pull the condensed moisture out the drain, makes it so that clothes aren't spun like a normal dryer to keep wrinkles out. The lock is insanity-producing. I was excited to have a washer/dryer in my new place, but I'm starting to roll up my quarters for the local laundromat. What a waste.
LG WM3431 Front Load All-in-One Washer / Dryer. by whitedove2043 ,Mar 06 '07
Pros: Load it up, set the timer, and go to bed; get up it was done. Cons: needs to use small loads to do the wash, like one set of sheets
I bought this washer/dryer combo as I am getting up in years and wanted something that was convenient for me. At first it was a little difficult to use but following the step by step instructions on how to use the washer/dryer combo, it became very simple to use. I loved that I could load it up and set the timer go to bed and when I got up all my wash and drying was done. I even loved that the drying cycle would go into the cool down for about 3 -4 hrs longer just in case I wasn't there to take it out. The only down fall that the combo has is that you really do need to make it small loads but with two people that is simple. This is a great machine for a couple or for just a single person. I have tried all the wash cycles and the drying with them. At first I thought that the load wasn't drying until I realized that it steamed dried the clothes this was great. very little if any lint was on the clothes.
Pros: Efficient, nice-looking, simple. Cons: Product broke! Then bad service.
... it was 14 months old, warranty had expired (shame on me for not extending the original warranty but whatever), and the unit stopped drying clothes altogether. Because it is not a common appliance, the closest service person for this unit is 20 miles away and will not travel to my home. When I finally convinced a person to consider it, it would be billed at T&M including travel time through our nasty traffic, so the total estimated cost was $600, going up from there if it takes two trips or is a complex issue.
And dealing with LG USA headquarters has been very painful and bureaucratic. The product overall seems solid- probably just a bad sensor or something small, but my experience is a big negative overall.
Perhaps the best purchase I've ever made. by listenhard ,Aug 19 '07
Pros: gets clothes ridiculously clean, dries very well, easy to use Cons: loud pump
I truly love this machine. I had a different washer/dryer combo before this (an Equator), and it washed the clothes OK, but they would just NEVER dry, no longer how long I left them in the dry cycle. So when it was time to replace it, I figured that the same thing would happen with any washer/dryer combo. So not true! The LG WM3431 gets my clothes cleaner than any washer I've ever used, anywhere. And I just put a load in before going to sleep, set it, and they're completely dry when I wake up. It's easy to use, with all the settings I need. I was initially disappointed that I don't have room in my apartment for a separate washer and dryer, but honestly, this is so much better.
The only problem I've found with it, which isn't a big problem for me, is that the water pump is a little loud. (I'm an apartment dweller and everything is pretty close together, but I just close the door to my bedroom when I sleep.)
Fantastic little machine - no regrets. Highly recommended.
LG Tromm Leaks & Sears Return Difficulty by consumer888888 ,Oct 22 '07
Pros: The LG Tromms are pretty. Cons: They leak and Sears is difficult with replacements.
We had a LG Tromm delivered to to our home and it immediately started leaking from the bottom of the unit. We had another unit delivered and it leaked from the same place - towards the back left bottom of the machine.
Sears and their delivery/Repair service, One Source, has given us a very difficult time about replacing these units. They wanted to send out a repairperson to confirm it was leaking and then reschedule a delivery. They also wanted to charge us a restocking fee to return the dryer. We have spent hours at the store and on the phone getting this resolved.
Pros: Great convenience for mom with kids away at college and lighter loads to wash. Cons: Can only process one load at a time.
The good: quiet, energy efficient, water & detergent conserving. You can load clothes and not be home to put them into the dryer, set the delay and have them ready in the morning when you get up to fold them. The front loader cleans my clothes so much better than the top-loader I had previously.
The Not-so-good: No lint filter or vent means that grass from soccer socks, pet hair and any thing else not dis- solvable stays with the clothes throughout the process (tissues are really bad!). Be sure to shake your clothes & kitchen rugs first to avoid transferring to other items.
Drying time does take longer without the venting but I can usually take out cotton/silk shirts and hang them after the first 1/2 hour and avoid ironing. Bath towels take longer--the full 1.5 hours.
Pros: Cleans clothes, other than that I cant say much for it. Cons: Breaks constantly. Very few people will work on them. Customer service is very inefficient.
Looks PRETTY! (for a washing machine)No other great features I am able to give. I have nothing very good to say other than looks good.
Pros: I have no Pros for this item. Wish I never bought it Cons: 4-6 hours for clothes to dry, breaks down, sometimes leaks, wrinkles clothes, no lint trap
I have had nothing but problems with my LG. First off it took 4 hours to wash and dry clothes. On many occassions I actually had to run it almost 6 hours just to get the clothes dry. Even then they always come out wrinkled.
After owning it less than two years, the water pump had to be replaced. Now less than 3 months after that I am having another repairman come out because it won't dry the clothes at all.
Good machine, Crappy support by moorelands ,Mar 18 '09
Pros: Good performance, good water/detergent/energy economy, many features Cons: Terrible customer support
This is "the" washer/dryer for water and electricity savings, as well as space savings. Used it without a problem for 5 years, until ball bearings needed replacing. Even though large appliances should last a minimum of 10 years, LG does not manufacture the replacement part anymore, is unwilling to exchange machine or do anything about it. Do yourself a favour and buy a machine from a more reliable brand. I know I will never shop LG again.
Pros: settings for all needs Cons: No hand wash setting
I was amazed at the number of settings on this all in one washer/dryer. I would highly recommend this product as it offers a great variety of temperatures, speeds etc and even has its own timer all at a suitable price.
Call around before you purchase.... by andrewbaker77 ,Jul 01 '06
Pros: High speed internet connection while you're doing laundry. Cons: Pulling a 150 pound machine solo up a rickety flight of wooden stairs.
Just got this machine, and paid $550 out the door. Yup.
The scoop is, the box stores like Best Buy, get this machine back from people who think it takes too long to dry the clothes.
(Having lived at the equator, where it takes 3 days for clothes on the line to go from soaking to damp, a couple hours drying time is no biggie.)
Once it's returned, it becomes open box up front, and sits and sits. The original tag on it was something like $1450. I called around and found a Best Buy in Ventura, Cali, open boxing it at $599. Went with the Tacoma and told the salesman, "I'll take it out the door right now, for $500." We agreed at $550, they lost about $500 (it's $1050-1100 wholesale) and I am washing my clothes right now for zero quarters.
Great machine until something goes wrong! by shayman16 ,Jun 21 '06
Pros: Quiet, efficient with energy and water. Cons: Slow and your clothes are wrinkled to death.
My machine is 6th months old and started displaying error code FE, I called LG and they only have two companies in Seattle to service their machines (2nd party dealers). LG seems very unhelpful and could care less and my machine is under warranty, both the dealers have been out to repair it and cannot find the issue. It appears that unless the repair people really know it well, you are SOL if something goes wrong, but it does work wonderful until something goes wrong.
Pros: Space saver, lots of functions, very energy efficient, gentle on clothes Cons: Drying time, clothes have more wrinkles than regular machines
I live in a condo near New York City and purchased this machine largely because it's a great space saver. I added shelves to my laundry closet where a stack dryer might have been. The machine is easy to use and has lots of great features. It uses very little water and electricity, doesn't have to be vented and it's very gentle on fabrics. The biggest drawback is that it's slow drying, so it's probably not the right machine for someone who lines up loads of clothes on wash day. But it's exactly the right machine for someone who wants to drop in a load before leaving for work, set a timer and have them done just as you arrive home. It can be a bit noisy during full spin, so I placed a rubber pad underneath. And cotton rich fabrics can come out a bit wrinkled. But overall, mine has been an excellent machine and I'd buy it all over again.
Pros: Wash/dry in one step.
Energy/water efficient.
Quiet.
Cool down feature minimizes wrinkles.
Compact.
Ventless. Cons: Pricey.
We have owned the LG washer/ventless dryer combo since January 2006, and agree that it is the best washer we have ever owned. Yes, it was pricey, but well worth the extra expense. Reliable, quiet, and you can set it to wash and dry a load simultaneously. Come back in a few hours and your laundry is done! Cool down feature tumbles a dry load every so often to minimize wrinkles. Uses minimal water and energy. Compact, and ventless so it works great in homes without venting to the outdoors, like ours. Even the sounds the machine makes when you are designating settings are pleasant and bell-like. A joy to own.
Pros: Dries clothes better than expected. Cons: None.
We bought this unit as a solution to a venting problem with our traditional dryer. Looked at Miele, Bosch, and LG, and assumed that any combo unit/condensation dryer would be disappointing, so we opted for the most economical choice. Even the sales staff at various stores said that clothes would not be that dry when they came out.
We've had the LG combo for several months and absolutely love it. Some reviewers list longer total wash-dry time as a downside, but the ability to put a load in when you leave for work in the morning and have it done when you return is a plus. While items are not as dry as they would be in a conventional dryer, they are not damp as I imagined they would be.
The design is great and controls are intuitive. The sound level is lower than our old traditional unit.
In short, we're very happy with the LG and would recommend it if you're considering a combo washer-dryer.
LG WM3431 Front Load All-in-One Washer / Dryer by winter22 ,Nov 08 '06
Pros: The unit is very useful. Cons: Clothing gets too hot when set on normal dry cycle.
I have been using my unit for over a month now. When the dry cycle is set to normal my clothes get too hot and smells. Has anybody else experienced this?
Pros: Doesn't take up much room, don't have to switch clothes Cons: Doesn't dry or clean Filter hard to empty, clothes wrinkled, takes 3 hours.
During the first thirty days of using the washer/dryer combo, we were fairly pleased and only noticed that clothes did not dry on the first try even when we decreased the load. The following month presented more problems. Although we cleaned and emptied the filter and cleaned the barrel of the machine as well as followed the problem solution steps in the manual, the machine started working less and less. The filter was constantly needing to be cleaned (once a week), stains that normally came out in our old washer weren't coming out even when we set the washer for heavy soil, extra rinse, sanitary, etc. At one point, the water backed up and flooded dripped down the wall into our basement. In addition, even if you take out the clothes immediately after the cycle is done, they are very wrinkled. I have to do at least two loads a day and this machine does not do the job. It's a great concept, but poorly engineered.
Pros: makes the kids stop bothering you. Cons: gotta remember to take the kids out or the police might have to get involved
the best thing about this washer/dryer is the fact that you can fit small children inside it. they love it in there. really. they say its like disneyland in there. i wouldn't know because i'm to large to fit in, but i find myself quite jealous of those kids. when will the washer/dryer industry think of us larger people?
LG WM3431 is Amazing beyond belief by terrythedba ,Jan 13 '08
Pros: Energy saver supreme, washes 540 Threadcount queen sheet set plus 4 pillowcases no problem . Cons: Longer cycles, some occasional wrinkling which is better controlled by not overloading.
It's cost is around $18 per year ($11 if you heat water by natural gas) to use the machine 8 times a week. When I first got it I was spending $30.00 a month at the laundry so if it cost $18.00 a month I was way ahead but as it turns out it is $18.00 or less per year and uses HE detergent and softener meaning I save big time. Sometimes a bit wrinkly but I can definitely live with that because I have huge convenience, no more stupid people leaving lipstick, pens, sharpies in their pockets getting all over my $100 Nordstrom shirts!! No more Laundromat washers full of fecal matter that never gets cleaned out. The WM3431 can do something the laundromat washer cannot do and that is wash batch mats without the machine walking out into the street by itself.
Pros: Lovely looking, great cleaning Cons: Too much of water consumption, front load disadvantages
It is a lovely looking one, but consumes a huge amount of water. But I think it is a part of all the automatic ones. The front load also has a disadvantage, you would not be able to add on any more clothes ones you have switched the system on. It is a small suggestion from my side.
Pros: At least it's small. Cons: The "dryer" part is a lie.
Is it really fair to call something a "dryer" when it takes 8.5 hours to dry a small load of jeans?
I've given up. I wash two loads in the washer, then take them across the street to the laundromat to dry them. Two loads of jeans is 17 HOURS of drying with this thing. With the laundromat dryer, two loads (from this thing) are dried in 1 hour, in one dryer load, for a buck. I'm spending less on electricity now. Hanging them over the balcony would be faster.
It worked okay at first (drying always took a long time), then it started having issues... the "done" sensor wore out, so I had to start using the timed thing, then it started taking longer and longer. I've followed all the suggestions. I've cleaned out everything that I, personally, can clean out. It's still very, very slow.
Worst purchase of my life!!! by shmarnold ,Dec 09 '08
Pros: Gave me room for a cabinet in my laundry room Cons: Loud, doesn't dry, clothes get ultra-wrinkled, can only wash about 10 items, takes forever!
I bought my LG washer/dryer May 2007. It was instant love! Throw a load in, turn it on and forget it until it was done. But after a year of undried loads, ultra wrinkled clothes and spending more time ironing in the past year than I ever have in my previous 40 years of living...I'M DONE!!!! You can't put more than 10 items in the thing at a time. With a family of 4 I have to do at least 2 loads a day. And I'm ironing EVERYTHING. I do not have the time to iron undershirts because you can see the wrinkles under the dress shirt. And now it's not getting the stains out.
I promised my husband I would live with my mistake (purchasing this piece of work) for 5 years. I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. And based on some of the reviews I've read here, I don't think the machine will make it either!
