Encased in a lightweight, attractive aluminum exterior the LaCie 250 GB external hard drive looks primed for action. The clean brushed face and tasteful pinhole LED looks at home on your desk or in your entertainment center and the small footprint keeps ...
Pros: Very quiet, fast and reliable (6 months so far). Cons: Price - could be 40 dollars cheaper.
I have used Lacie products for about 12 years now and they have a solid reputation. Their monitors, for example the Lacie Electron Blue 19", are design industry stalwarts - I had one for 5 years and then still sold it for 250 dollars! I went for this ...
Pros: Size, looks, and it works! Cons: Confusing error messages
I’ve only had the LaCie external hard drive for a few weeks, but my initial impressions are very positive. Looking at epinions.com for ratings of external hard drives is actually kind of depressing, since nearly every drive with enough ratings to ...
Listen, I like a deal like everyone else. I do the math and I compare the prices and consistently LaCie drives are the best bang for the buck. But are they really? Simply put, I've owned two of these and within, or just after a year of use, BOTH have ...
Pros: Relatively compact, large storage, ease of use Cons: a bit heavy for commuting requirements and requires external power supply.
This guy is great! 250MB of additional storage is plenty for me at work and I would imagine for most of you out there as well. It is easily transportable if necessary, however it is a bit heavy. Therefore it is not ideal for daily commuting in a bag, ...
I bought this drive a few months ago and have not had a problem with it yet. Nor do I expect one, since all the reviews I read said it was a great drive. Its also MUCH faster than the IOmega 250GB drive I bought previously. Also, its VERY quiet which is nice.
Cheap and Small and Light weight. by rap1zip1 ,Jan 12 '06
Pros: Cheap, small and light weight. No installation required ( with Windows XP). Cons: Not durable. If you drop it, you will lose all data. It gets hot.
I bought this at $150 at amazon.com. It works like the USB thumb memory drive. Much better than having 50 DVDs as back up disks. As soon as you connect the USB cable to the computer, the computer recognize it and is ready to use it. It's very small and light. It gets very hot after an hour, so you should not put the book or magazine on the top of it to prevent overheating. It's not durable, if you move this around, you have a high probability of dropping and breaking it. Also, I have to mention that the tech support and customer service people at the Lacie are very well trained.
Pros: quiet, easy to install, attractive, convenient Cons: none
Bought this drive a few months ago and it has been running great since then.
It is very easy to install. You can take it out of the box and use it in less than 5 minutes!
I use an external USB 2.0 connector and haven't found any great lag for my computer to access the data stored in it. I also use it to store very large programs such as Adobe photoshop and the entire creative suite and they start up just like they would if they were on the C drive.
It is also a very attractive thing to look at, for people who care about such things, like I do. It's rare to find well designed objects in the computer world. Congratulations should go to LaCie for caring about the look of their products.
Lots of problems/unreliable by nrenee1965 ,Feb 23 '08
Pros: Cheap, stores a lot of data; comes with back-up software Cons: Unreliable for long-term storage; short life span; inaccessible customer service
Seemed fine originally, but then started giving me error messages during daily back-up after about six months. I tried emailing customer support several times (there is no phone number) regarding the errors, but never got a reply. Then after two years, it failed to mount. I tried mounting on other PCs with no success and have since heard from tech savvy friends that these drives are problematic. Fortunately, I archive to CD/DVDs as well as to the drive, otherwise I'd be in trouble! I would not buy this drive again.
Great drive, lots of space, good price. by wheatthewicked ,Sep 18 '05
Pros: Spacious, inexpensive, minimalist design Cons: None so far
I've been needing some additional storage space for a while now, mostly for audio projects and my iTunes Music Library. Though I use a Windows-based laptop, I was familiar with LaCie from my days, many years ago, as a Macintosh user. So, even though I'd seen some great reviews and some complaints on other LaCie products, I took a chance on this one. I've had it for a few weeks now and I'm very happy with it. It came pre-formated, mounted w/o any difficulty (no need to install drivers or anything). It has plenty of space and it's very quiet. The box is sleek and minimalist. The footprint is actually a little smaller than the images would lead you to believe. As for using it in audio production work, I've had no trouble recording directly to it over USB2.
BAD Company! Defective product by mdgq ,Dec 13 '07
Pros: Cheap and fast Cons: will fail! poor support, rude staff, will not honor warranty
I have had the opportunity to purchase a LOT of LaCie products and made my decision based on their advertising claims and the price and functions of the product.
I have decided not to make any more purchases from this company because I have seen a higher than normal failure rate on their products and have had a very hard time getting the company to respond to any problems.
Just do a search on Google and you'll see the evidence.
The first tip is that their technical support phone number is not published on their website. Bad sign.
I have had 4 of their hard drives fail on me within one year and they refused to honor the warranty and refused to repair the product.
I make purchasing decisions for a $5 Billion company and they will not be getting another dime from me.
