"LAMB": A HUMOROUS AND INSPIRATIONAL LOOK AT THE LIFE OF JESUS

by mike.holmes mike.holmes is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Books, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 15 '07
Pros: Funny, inspirational, great writing from beginning to end
Cons: Might offend some folks, but they probably wouldn't read it
As I was browsing through Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago, I noticed a book that appeared to be a Bible. The book was in a leather binding; it had gold leaf on the edge of the pages; and, it even had the little red ribbon bookmark. Upon further ...

Holy Biff! Jesus' Life as a Frat Guy

by martytdx Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200, Sep 25 '03
Pros: Hilarious look at Jesus' lost years of youth.
Cons: If you are a hard-core fanatic, you'll probably be offended.
Man, that Jesus guy was a riot when he was a kid. That one time where he met the Yeti - wow, THAT was a roll-on-the-floor laugher if I ever heard one. And the way Biff tells the story, it's- What? You've never heard the story of Jesus and ...

The Book of Moore

by BaronSamedi3 , Nov 24 '09
Pros: Funny look at Jesus in a more human light
Cons: Probably mistaken for scripture at some point by fanatically religious
Levi, who is called Biff, got the shaft in the Gospels. We know the Gospels confirm the existence of a man named Levi, who of course was called Biff. And with various people out in the world today claiming the Bible meant this or that, God apparently ...

Praise be to God - and to Biff

by tlbwriter Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Nov 18 '05
Pros: Wonderful - funny, warm, moving!
Cons: Too short - I wasn't ready for it to end
Sometimes you put down a book and you say, "Damn. I wish I had written that. I wish I had that kind of imagination." Or "God, I love that guy's writing style. I wish I could write like that." Or maybe "I wish I had that author's sense of humor," or "I ...

Awesomely Irreverant

by PacManY2J Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jun 24 '08
Pros: Hilarious, heart-warming, and thought-provoking
Cons: The irreverence will prevent more close-minded people from reading it ... but screw 'em.
How is it that a book about Jesus Christ, one of the most influential figures in history, is missing a gigantic chunk of the man's life? The gospels tell us about his birth, one instance when he was twelve, and his final three years. Don't you think he ...

Christopher Moore’s “Lamb”: The Good News is that The Word can also be funny!

by econo-clast , Jan 18 '08
Pros: Extremely funny, enlightening and educational!
Cons: Profanity and some heretical topics. May offend a minority of readers. Not recommended for children!
Christopher Moore’s “Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal” is possibly one of the funniest —and most enlightening— things I have had the pleasure to read. While this book has been available since 2000, the ...

Great introduction to Moore, funny, touching, awesome!

by dmentia777 , May 18 '06
Pros: Funny, compelling, moving, amusing, thoughtful
Cons: Religious content may be a turnoff for hardcore atheist types
This book Lamb was my first introduction to Christopher Moore's books. I read it at the insistence of my then roommate, who badgered me and bullied me until I finally caved and picked it up. This is one of the few times that I have been so pleased ...

Lamb: The Jesus you've never read about before (and Biff)

by syamg , Aug 04 '08
Pros: Great read - funny and charming
Cons: Storytelling is a tad slow towards the end
I picked up Lamb by Christopher Moore on a whim - along with all his other books available at the book store. Lamb was the first one that caught my eye, and I am glad it did. I have really come to love all of Christopher Moore's books. The first one was ...

One of his best!
by trillian25 ,Jan 24 '04
Pros: One word: hilarious!
Cons: Not good for religious zealots.
Every Christopher Moore book I've read has been terrific and hilarious. I have to say Lamb was one of the best though, it covers Jesus' adolescent years, his adventures coming to terms with the fact that he is God's soon, and his interactions with his friends, all with that lovely Moore twist. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who is offended by religious jokes, but if you don't mind thinking of Jesus as a fun loving normal kind of guy who happens to have special powers and a devine destiny than definatly give this one a try!

Utter Genius
by kestral369 ,Oct 16 '08
Pros: Funny, thought provoking
Cons: Could be considered by some to be offensive.
After picking up another Christopher Moore book by chance and loving it, I've become a complete addict. Moore excels at bringing humor to what could otherwise be considered a taboo topic. Lamb is a great book that will have you laughing out loud and thinking at the same time. It features intriguing characters that you'll grow to love, and at certain times, want to throttle (out of love, of course.) As someone who owns all of Moore's novels, this definitely ranks as one of my favorites and one I can read over and over and never get bored with.
