Pros: It is a wonderful learning tool, It was not very expensive. Cons: It is loud when your child turns it up.
I cannot speak anything bad about this learning tool! This is amazing. I bought my son's at Walmart. They only had 1 book outside the one you get within the box that was appropriate for his age, but I have heard there are more.
This came...

Pros: Self contained, great learning tools, no small parts to lose, add'l learning books available Cons: A little pricey.
We purchased the LeapPad Learning Center for our 5 year old, and we all love it. It comes with one book, of which several others at different educational levels were readily available at Wal-mart. This toy not only helps teach reading, but also US...

Pros: good for any age Cons: a little expensive
This product reminds me of my old speck and spell toy of the early 80's. I purchased the toy for 2 of my nieces and both of them have improved incredibly in their spelling and speech. The wonderful part about this product is that one of my nieces is 4...

Pros: Helps child learn to read
Games to play
Volume control
Headphone jack
Cons: The cost was a lot.
We bought the Leap Frog Leap Pad for our daughter when she was 5 years old (on her 5th birthday). The reasons we bought it for her was because we figured it would be a great learning tool to help her learn to read in an interesting and fun way.

kiddies dream
by ellelou ,May 26 '05
Pros: very easy to use, comes with instructions and is great for learning. Cons: story books are a bit pricey.
this is a blue and green book that you can open like a book and you buy story books for and when the book is placed in the pad you use the pen thats attached on to the book and touch numbers, letters and words to teach the children. I found this to be really educational for my daughter and she loves reading with it
you can also play games on it to, which asks how many things there are on the page and what colors you can see.
you can buy these pads from most toy stores for the good price of about £40.
the story books that go inside the pad can be bought for £35, but I think it depends on where you shop. when you buy these you get a cartridge that goes in the side of the pad this then tells the pad which stories are on it.
I would recommend this to anyone with kids as it is really educational and the children can learn a lot.

Waiting on SUPPORT
by ettalong ,Feb 26 '05
Pros: Interactive, portable, novel. Cons: Expensive books, Pages easily damaged from ring binder.
We bought the product just before Christmas last year. Looked very interesting with promise of many hours of FUN for our children.
Came with one book and story already installed.
Lay byed other books to use laterone. We have to finalize lay bye by end next week.
The unit now does not work correctly, even after changing the batteries many times as per the troubleshooting guide. The only guide that is offered, replace the batteries.
New, healthy batteries and the unit still gives garbled uniteligable sounds. Volume etc works but nothing else.
Reading the FINE PRINT we discover that it only has a 3 month warranty. Looked at the card and that is a UK address, not Australian, where I write from.
Contacted the company, Still waiting on whom the local representative is so we can get this EXPENSIVE door stop fixed....
So now without answer, will cancell the other books on lay bye and pay the forfiet fee.
Will update this IF or WHEN we receive a reply from the company...
So no I would not buy this 'TOY of the YEAR'..

Clumsy Technological Teacher
by penang ,Feb 10 '05
Pros: Novelty value. Cons: Price, design, books.
While the LeapPad has a novelty value, it has a steep learning curve for our four year old son. He has never requested to use it. When using it, he gains no satisfaction from it. He requires guidance with it every step of the way. The books themselves are poorly designed, and unappealing. I feel this purchase was a mistake. The physical design of the product is also clumsy, particularly the pen cord which always gets in the way.

Leap Frog Leappad Learning System- Is this just for pre-school age children?
by jacobsk333 ,Oct 12 '05
Pros: I see a lot out in all different mass stores, but not as much traffic. Cons: I'd like to see a wider variety of age all children taking interest.
I have two grade school children and they have no interest in these at all. I think gearing towards older children and upgrading the scale may initiate more interest. A wider variety of interests such as sports or timestable and specific reading material.

Leapfrog Quality Problems
by preschoolmom ,Jan 06 '05
Pros: Kids love it and use it on their own. Reinforces Kindergarten teaching. Cons: 2 out of 4 units failed straight from the box
We have purchased 2 products from Leap Frog, the Leapster (interactive video game unit) and the Leap Pad (interactive book reading). Both were defective. The 1-800 customer assistants were very nice and prompt but basically told me there was nothing wrong with the way I was using it and that it appeared they were defective and to return for new ones. The replacement ones have been working great.
Just beware it may take more than one try to get a good one.
We like both products. Like other reviews I have read, my kindergartner is not a great reader, so any tool I can use (on top of reading every night, workbooks, homework, flash cards) is appreciated. My child likes them and thinks it great to have her own "Game Boy" as she calls it.
Some of the books/games seemed simplistic but then I realized that they needed to be for pre-K.

My kid can read!
by momofautism ,Jan 05 '05
Pros: This toy is very educational and has a variety of books to fit the machine. Cons: I wish there were more books featuring television characters from kids shows.
I have a five year old little boy who is autistic. He loves to learn anything. He loves to spell and count and sing and dance. This toy allows him to do all that. He has been reading a lot lately, he really loves Dr.Seuss. I am so glad they have many of his books as cartridges for the leap pad. It allows a child to play simple games and sound out the words. They learn letter recognition and even start memorizing what certain words look like. Reading starts with memorization. This is his favorite toy and he insists on taking it everywhere. It also give kids a since of independence. this toy is very manageable for small children and is fun to play with.

Very fun and educational
by goobiegetter ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: Durable and educational product good for a wide age range Cons: Cartridges could get lost, books damaged without carrying case.
I bought a Leappad Learning System for my 4 1/2 year old son two years ago, and he still loves it, thanks to numerous books for him to use. This is a toy that will be around for years to come, as there are books for up to 5th grade. I agree that the cartridges are small and can be lost and the books can be torn apart (as his younger sister proved), but there is an awesome carrying case that can be bought separately that keeps everything in one place and safe. This has been a good opportunity to teach my son about being responsible for his stuff. There are so many different books, from math to reading to Spanish to Bible studies and then some more that I don't think my children will ever tire of the Leappad. This is definitely a worthwhile investment.

Leap pad inspired my daughter
by giftbaskets2go ,Oct 23 '04
Pros: Ease of use, lots of different learning software Cons: The wand sometimes shorts out after repeated use by a young child.
I initially bought Leap frog Leap Pad as something that would amuse my 5 year old daughter. Little did I know what a godsend Leap Pad would be. My daughter loves reading the stories, learning where the states are in the US, and learning her ABC's. I bought it for her when she was 4 and it has given her a jump start for her kindergarten class. I would recommend this product to anyone
