Pros: Educational, entertaining, volume control Cons: durability issues
My son got a My First Leap Pad for his 3rd birthday. We have had it for a little more than a year. It has been played with a lot and is now on "leave" until we are able to replace the pointer pen. I like this toy. It comes with an alphabet page and ...
Pros: Easy to use.
Great for car trips. Cons: Difficult for a young child to flip the book over.
We bought a My First Leap Pad for our 2 1/2 year old to use on a long car trip. The box says the Leap Pad is for ages 3 and up, but our child caught on very quickly how to use it. In just a few minutes he mastered turning the pages and placing the ...
Pros: It's a brilliant idea for interactive learning matched to the skills of a toddler. Cons: It is not very durable, goes through a lot of batteries, and no effective troubleshooting.
First let me start by saying that this toy is about the greatest toy every thought up in theory. I have long thought kids would enjoy books more and learn from them more if they could interact with them. I bought this toy new two months ago for my ...
Well for Christmas last year i decided to get my two year old a Leap Frog My First LeapPad and i absolutly hated it. Sad face I know, it was exspensive, it was noisey and he tore the pages of the book. I think the toy makers had great intentions with ...
Great educational toy for younger kids by stephavery ,Dec 13 '03
Pros: Educational, fun, entertaining, small, no little pieces to get lost Cons: Not enough books available, needs a longer pen cord
I bought this for my 3 year old because she likes to play independently. She absolutely loves this. I was hoping this wouldn't be something she'd play with a few times, then put away forever. And she doesn't. The first few times she used it, I had to show her what to do and how to use it. But now, at 38 months old, she can use it totally on her own. The books that go with it are not too expensive either, usually $10-$13. I also like that you can turn the volume up and down on the leappad. It's a great toy to take on long car rides.
A terrific educational toy by efturner ,Aug 31 '04
Pros: A terrific educational toy. Each book will provide hours of fun. Cons: None that I have discovered.
Children need to be convinced that reading is fun. Leap Pad provides an avenue though which success at this level can be achieved.
This toy also facilitates periods of quality "cuddle" time and structured opportunities for the child and parent to play together and develop positive communication strategies.
It's not just a matter of reading a story.
The music, exciting noises and activities which are incorporated within each story makes this a total learning experience par-excellence.
Leap Pad is more than just a book. It is a truly interactive toy for both the child and parent and will provide many hours of enjoyment. Our Leap Pad is carried everywhere. It is invaluable in the car where the distraction it provides makes journeys tolerable. It has proved very durable and is certainly worth every penny we paid for it!
22 Months and Loving the Leap! by wolfe1971 ,Oct 05 '05
Pros: My son loves it and it's educational. Cons: Can't think of one!
We originally bought our 22 month old son the Leap Pad Plus, which is designed for older children. He loved it, however, the pages weren't as sturdy as he is strong. We invested in the Leap Pad Plus and it's just perfect for him. He never really latched onto a toy up until Leap Frog entered our lives! We like to think of it as booting up his hard drive for school.
Pros: It help my 2yr. to read, play games and help him with his letters and colors. Cons: I don't have any problems with my Leap Pad.
I bought this product for my 2yr, His sister has the big Leap Pad Learning System. They both love there Leap Pad. I would recommend this product to everyone.
Leap Frog-need I say more? by lpilling ,Jan 26 '05
Pros: Educational, a great way to spend quality time with my daughter. Cons: none yet
While walking in the toy department at my local Wal*Mart, my daughter spotted the LEAP FROG MY FIRST LEAPPAD. She wanted it because of the color. I wanted it because of the fact she would be learning while she's playing. We paid about $25.00 for Heather's favorite "toy". The pre-reading, pre-writing and the pre-math skills are great. Heather counts right along and doesn't realize she's learning. She loves listening to what the pages tell her what to do. I recommend the MY FIRST LEAPPAD by LEAP FROG.
Far better than them watching TV, and great in the car by psbcycle ,Mar 29 '06
Pros: Easy to use and excellent practice for holding and controlling a pen. Cons: Can't view inside the books before buying.
I bought this for my 3 year old daughter, who's very proud of her computer. She can place matching books and cartridges in the body, and is really learning how to hold and control a pen to select activities, which is something I hadn't considered beforehand. I'd been tempted to buy an older version, but I think this suits her just right, with learning activities rather than being pushy about learning to read and write.
We tend to use it mainly on car journeys, and she pretty much amuses herself. As we can hear it, we can join in also with songs and things, or help. I didn't particularly want yet another play item, so have deliberately chosen books on the alphabet, numbers etc - they all have play activities built-in anyway. She doesn't realize she's learning, which is the nicest way to learn!
Leap Pad stood the test of time (for 2 years) by lizziesmom02 ,Nov 25 '06
Pros: Wonderful learning toy Cons: Mechanical problems after 2 years
We purchased My First Leap Pad for our daughter back in 2004 for her 2nd birthday. At the time, she showed very little interest in it, but my friend's daughter who was 2 months older found it fascinating. 6 months after her birthday, she fell in love with the thing. We use it for long car rides, quiet time during her little brother's nap, and even as a way to keep her on the potty when we were potty training. All in all, we've loved the product, but there have been a couple snags. Even at 4 years old, my daughter has trouble switching the books. Also, we are having some trouble with it accepting some of the cartridges. We get the message, "Oops that's not a My First Leap Pad cartridge" when it most definitely is and some weird noises. Unfortunately, the instructions (which are available on the leap frog website) only have one solution for any problem and that's the change the batteries. Which doesn't solve this problem. I will be calling Leap Frog about this and will update this review at that time.
My 3 year old loves this toy! by indecisivegirl ,Sep 14 '04
Pros: Really does help them learn preschool basics. Can adjust the volume. Cons: Book should be laminated\plastic because we've had it 2mos and its getting worn out.
We got it for him for his 3rd birthday and he really didn't know what to do with it first. After a week or so he had the toy figured out and it has since been the most used toy in the house!
Pros: good learning game (portable) Cons: Definitely the durability
My son got "my first leap pad" for Christmas last year, he really likes it. It has some good games but the durability is not good. I always made sure that he wouldn't carry it by the pen, and not to drop it. But it has been giving us problems it shuts off while he's playing and makes funny sounds (its not the batteries). too bad because he really likes it.
Slightly Entertaining...not for active children by kakamy ,Aug 17 '06
Pros: It is easy to use for a preschooler. Cons: Sound is a little fuzzy.
I bought this for my two year old, now three year old girl. She has never shown much interest. Recently, she has played with it a few times in the car. Some of the game cartridges are better than others. The Leap Frog game books/cartridges are entertaining (Dora and the Wiggles are also good)others are not very entertaining (Thomas the Train and the Princess one). In general, it does not keep a busy child entertained for very long.
