Pros: Refreshing taste of fruit and coriander; Inexpensive Cons: The sweet taste could be too much for some
Wisconsin is associated with several things. As a former Wisconsin resident myself, I can remember the cold weather, cheese, and football fanaticism that go hand in hand with the Badger state. And, of course, there is beer and the best known local brew ...
Pros: refreshing and mellow Cons: unexpected astringency to finish
For some reason, this summer finds me exploring the (surprisingly large) wheat beer section in the local bars and liquor stores - and the local Osco, if I have to be honest. That's where I stumbled across my latest wheaty acquisition, a twelve-pack that ...
Pros: Balanced Flavor, pleasant aroma, interesting notes. Cons: A bit more expensive than competitors.
My beer tastes lean heavily towards the blond end of the spectrum. In terms of mainstream brews I like Michelob Ultra or Budweiser. The lighter beers tend to have a brighter flavor without the bitter acidic aftertaste that some of the darker ...
I have just finished the last of a six pack of Leinenhukle's Sunset Wheat beer (not in one sitting, btw). I am a bit confused by this beer. It has the most definite hazy color and body of a wheat beer, but with very unusual ...
Pros: Decent mouthfeel. Plenty of sweetness...had dessert yet? "Text book" appearance, if that convinces you. Cons: Overpowering nose. Poorly executed summer beer caricature. Unbalanced in favor of less pleasant flavors.
Appearance: Light amber in color...peachy; good head retention, perhaps not surprisingly; immediately hazy, yet no evidence of sediment...is this a contrivance?
Aroma: Plainly stated, the first impression was off-putting. Cereal character is totally overwhelmed by citrus, but not a fresh citrus - denser and sweeter, like orange soda; sickly floral tones, again not fresh - like lavender potpourri.
Mouthfeel: Definitely the best thing about this beer. Light; pleasantly unimposing; aqueous, almost like a cask ale; quite refreshing.
Flavor: Chemical; citrus candies again; sweet and sickly; coriander and some unidentified herb, perhaps tarragon; some faint sugary cereal flavor, perhaps residuals/unfermentables, reminiscent of some other novelty Leinenkugel/Busch/Sam Adams products. Overall, tastes anything but natural, despite inclusion of "natural" flavors.
Finish: Slight hop bitterness, lingering astringency, almost metallic. Not too bad.
Mostly unpleasant - couldn't drink more than one in a sitting. May drink the rest though, or use them for grilling - in for a penny, in for a pound!
