My daughter loves it. I worry about the construction

by memobug , Jul 02 '04
Pros: Sand and water are great fun! Covers up to keep animals out.
Cons: Need power tool to assemble, strongman to set up, rickety and safety concerns. Expensive.
This is Sand & Water Table play set is a very simple design. How could they mess it up? The Sand and Water table consists of a sandbox with a lid that doubles as a water tray capable of holding a few inches of water for your toddler to splash around ...

so few choices

by mom2emma , Jan 13 '06
Pros: deep, good size
Cons: hard to use
If you don't want to spend a fortune on a wooden preschool quality sand and water table, you really only have 2 choices. This Little Tikes one or the Step 2 one. We chose this one b/c it was bigger when it came to surface area and depth as well as it ...

The kids love it although Mommy doesn't entirely agree

by emnickalex , Feb 09 '06
Pros: Holds large amt of sand, kids absolutely love it
Cons: Very difficult to put together, heavy and bulky
I would definitely not call this an "Easy Store" sand and water table! My triplets received one of these from their aunt for their 1st birthday last summer. They absolutely love playing with it but I hate setting it up and putting it back away. Let ...

Fantastic fun: imaginative, sensory, sociable play ... just tough if some adults don't like it!

by psbcycle , Apr 02 '06
Pros: A practical height, great sized containers, imaginative play they'll not tire of.
Cons: Hinge to lid could be improved.
This is, as usual, another fantastic product by Little Tikes, a sand and water table at a sensible play height, with the essential cover. I intended to buy a ground level sandpit, and was tempted by turtle and boat shaped ones, and then by a large ...

We like it!

by AnnEliz5 , Apr 28 '05
Pros: Compact, holds "just enough" sand for a couple kids
Cons: "hinge" design doesn't work right. Table top needs new design.
We bought this table 3 years ago for our then 3 year old son. What we wanted most was a sandbox that he wouldn't climb into and this one had extra features on it. At the time, I don't recall very many options for off the ground sandboxes that weren't ...

Pros: Easy to assemble and use, includes water toys, plenty of room for kids to share.
Cons: Bulky to move after assembled, water gets trapped in water table side.

What a mess!

by staceyfeindt , May 14 '03
Pros: messy..kids love that!
Cons: messy...parents hate that!
This is a great toy, for a kid. This is a nightmare for a parent! My son got it for his 3rd birthday, as a gift. Oh how I hate it. You can't let them use it indoors (I have tried, even with a tarp underneath), but when put outside you can't keep bugs...

by chicmom3 , Sep 17 '07
Pros: Can entertain children for long periods of time
Cons: leaks, sand gets wet, legs are not sturdy

I still like it

by jewlbox35 , Jun 21 '03
Pros: Colors are nice Kid Orientated
Cons: Does not drain well at all
I have a Childcare Center and my kid's love it a lot. It is hard to drain, we use it outdoors. They should of put a drain plug in the side for the sand area. It's the right size for my littler kids. They just need to modify it somewhat to the parents...

Sand and water only mix at the beach

by ReviewerScott , May 21 '03
Pros: A stand up sand table is neater than one they sit and crawl in.
Cons: Difficult to assemble, leaky, messy.
Who thought a combination sand and water table makes sense? You know the two will inevitably mix, and usually to the messiest possible degree. I've tried using this only as a sand table, outdoors, but even with the lid closed, the rain gets in. So now we...

Not so easy to sand and store.

by dfoer829 , May 26 '03
Pros: Sand and water is always a lot of fun to play with.
Cons: Closing and opening the table is not very easy. When closed, water still gets in.
My son loves to play with sand and water, just like most other two and a half year olds. It is a good idea to combine the two. However, this toy was hard to put together. It would have been easy if I owned a screw gun, but I do not. The screws were so...

Hinge would not work, not a table at all on one side
by lilaclrose ,Jul 14 '07
Pros: Would have been nice to have a comb sandbox and table.
Cons: The hinge doesn't work and the legs take in water.
My poor son received this gift he really wanted a sandbox but it doesn't work right at all. All it really does is fall over. No matter how hard we tried the hinge would not go together. One person and a kid forget it I have no hope of putting the hinge together even two of us couldn't get it to stay. It doesn't work right, one side stays up but the other side all you can do is lay it on the ground. Not safe for little ones since even when you think you finally got it together it falls over. I gave up hope and bought a real sandbox from another company.

Back to the design board for this one!
by esmom ,Aug 08 '04
Pros: great concept, love the table idea versus on the ground.
Cons: Too many. Change the water plug color. Grade the water basin.
I bought it this morning and it goes back tomorrow! Surely the engineers can fix the many flaws in this product. It's not difficult to assemble, but you have to get the 'hinge' snapped together just right or the water table will collapse as it only has two supporting legs. My daughter loves to pull the drain plug on the water table - the white plug against the green/blue water basin provides wonderful color contrast, it's the first thing she noticed! The water basin is flat (rather than on a slight grade) so the water doesn't drain well - I had to pick it up and pour the water out. I love this concept, but not this product. Perhaps in the redesign they'll conquer the problems. Until then, we'll get the green turtle!

POOR DESIGN, NOT STURDY, NEVER AGAIN!
by maizee ,Apr 24 '05
Pros: None
Cons: Falls apart each time it's opened or closed.
We purchased it this morning and returned it this afternoon.............This table was difficult, frustrating and time-consuming to assemble, and once assembled it becomes apparent that designers need to go back to the drawing board on this one....It is impossible to cover properly because each time you fold the table to close it or open it, the hinge pops out and the table falls apart, meaning that each time it is opened or closed it has to be re-assembled!

Easy Store, except it doesn't keep out RAIN water!
by lullaby ,May 27 '04
Pros: Sand Table is great Water Table is great Safe and sturdy
Cons: LEAKS rain water Toys that come with it are lame, and not attached

Ya, you can store it by putting the water table upsided down over the sand side, but no matter how perfect you get it on to cover it, it ALWAYS leaks rain water into it, and so, there is always 3-4" of rain water on top of the sand (now mud), and then child has to wait DAYS for it to dry out to play with it again. DO NOT BUY THIS TABLE, unless you have a covered porch/awning/lean-to or SOMETHING to COVER the table with other than the water table upside down on top of the sand table. In fact, we even drilled two holes on the UNDERSIDE (the side that hangs OVER the sand table, so that water would drain OUT the sides instead of IN the sand box... but it STILL leaked water into the sand table! NOT WORTH $54 we spent at walmart to buy it. For that much, it should keep rain water out by itself!

Sand and water table
by conbish ,May 07 '07
Pros: Perfect height, perfect size for my deck.
Cons: poor water drainage, poor design for closing
Love the concept! It's a great height for the kids to play.

I hate that the water doesn't drain correctly - the drain is in the wrong spot - so if it doesn't get played with for awhile the water table molds.

We finally just took water out and use both sides for sand.

The hinge doesn't work like a regular hinge and comes apart quite regularly. It could be better designed.

don't do it!
by kathy9822 ,Mar 18 '05
Pros: none
Cons: messy, unstable, leaks
Very disapointed with the construction and design of this product. The 2 tables wouldn't stay "hooked" together plus it was not water proof and the sand would get wet when it rained. We are setting it out with the trash. Happy to see it go!

Sand & Water Table
by adbog ,Mar 26 '05
Pros: Kids stay a lot cleaner than a traditional sand box.
Cons: Difficult to get together and keep together, water doesn't drain well.
Overall, a neat concept. I like the fact that the kids stand and play rather than sitting in a box of sand on the ground. The hinges are difficult to get together. The water gets icky pretty fast and doesn't drain well. I found that you have to put a hose in it to get it cleaned out real well. I wish it had a more traditional lid. One side folds over the other to cover the sand but you have to drain the water out every time you want to cover it up. We just use a piece of plywood as a cover. Once it's full of sand, you can't really move it anywhere. The little drawing table on the flip side is useless. I still like it more than a traditional sand box. I'm glad it was a gift rather than a purchase.

Kids like it.
by mommy2spencer ,May 10 '04
Pros: Kids like it.
Cons: hard to move once its full of water and sand.
My 4 year old and 2 year old got this last year from their Grandma. They like it. They can both access the same area but from different sides. Its a pain when they put the sand into the water but that's not a product issue. It was outside all winter and still looks like new. I recommend this table. Go for it.

Lots of fun!
by tinkerbell1105 ,Jan 24 '06
Pros: Lots of fun!
Cons: Doesn't unfold and fold easily and doesn't drain adequately.
My girls love this table. They are 19 months old and 5 1/2 years old! They will play for an hour or more, straight! I threw in a couple of small toy lizards, etc. for them to dig up and they have the best time. On a fun-factor level, it gets 5 stars! My girls beg to play with this toy! Cons are with the design: 1) The table does NOT unfold without coming apart in the middle and it is not easy to fit back together.
2) The drain in the water portion of the table doesn't drain all of the water out.
Design only gets 2 1/2 stars.

Pros: Not sure there are any-- maybe nice color?
Cons: Can not stay together, Use tools to assemble. Not a worthy little Tykes product
I cannot believe Little Tykes would make sure a poor product!! I just purchased this tonight for my daycare kids and I cannot believe how difficult it is to make it stay together....... I have not filled it with sand and probably wont but too scared to put water infear it may just collapse. This product is not worth the price.
