Pros: Original story, great pacing Cons: Weak ending
I have never considered myself a Stephen King fan. I respect his ability as an author to create such a massively successful catalogue of books, but a lot of his stuff is hit and miss. Some authors put out a book every few years and they are great, but ...
Pros: Very dark, very disgusting, very unforgiving... Cons: May be a bit too nasty for some readers accustomed to King's writing...
Stephen King and Richard Bachman are not the same person. You read that correctly. In spirit they differ so much that I hesitate to even mention that they were indeed birthed by the same mother at the same moment of the same day. The differences are ...
Pros: Well written, after all it IS Stephen King. Cons: story could have been more well developed, 4 mph is a bit much
This summer I have really been a book freak as well as a movie freak. So much so that I haven’t really even stopped to write about many of them at all. Now that I’m coming up for air (a little) here goes.....
Pros: A page turner Cons: Ending was disappointing
It struck me as I finished this book of Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman "The Long Walk", that King's book "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" was sort of a parallel to this book. Basically it seems that through introspect, both...
Pros: Tense, edge of the seat stuff, great characters Cons: Ending left me flat
I actually read this story way back in 1987 when it was included in Stephen King's "The Bachman Books". I recently picked up a copy of the paperback and had forgotten what a great read it was.
Pros: One of the Richard Bachman books; different setting than what King usually uses. Cons: Story can be depressing.
One of Stephen King's more unusual works is the novel "The Long Walk". It is one of the handful of novels he wrote about 20 years ago, under the pseudonym Richard Bachman; still, despite the name change, it reads like his other...
Pros: Good Detailed Story Cons: It Didn't Have Any Pictures. (kidding)
To tell you the truth, I don't usually like to read. It just takes too long for me, and I don't have the patience nor the attention span. I do have the creativity - I use it in everything I do. It's just something about trying to sit still long enough to...
Pros: Interesting premise. Some memorable characters Cons: Rather bland story. Would have made a better short story than a novella.
Just out of curiosity, I decided to see what other people thought about this story. My findings startled me. It seems as though many other reviews of The Long Walk have heaped praise onto it, giving it five stars. Perhaps they should read it again. ...
Pros: Gripping story, excellent characterization. Cons: Lots of loose ends.
My copy of The Long Walk is in a large paperback titled "The Bachman Books." It is the best story in that collection, and perhaps one of the best Stephen King stories ever.
A friend recommended this book to me and I really enjoyed it. It was written when Stephen King was writing as Richard Bachman. But it is classic Stephen King. It has a few bombs that are dropped on the reader including what a ticket is.
Pros: abstract on society, descriptive, morbidly candid, thought provoking, suspenseful, intense plot. Cons: questionable language and content, lengthy, multitudes of characters (makes it hard to follow).
If you have made it this far into Stephen King's collection of writing, you might as well just keep going. The "Long Walk" was one of those cheap paperbacks, written by an amazing author, available in the airport rush, type of books. I...
Pros: makes you think! short, to the point Cons: scary, makes you think
This seems to be a story that has not been reviewed thus far and I believe it to be deserving of one! It is one of King's scariest stories (novellas) and yet it contains very little to no gore (in comparison with his others), no evil alien monsters...
Pros: Interesting premise, written so one can 'feel' what the characters are feeling Cons: Somewhat depressing
This is an interesting tale about a group of young men who have set out on, as the title indicates, a long walk. What makes it interesting are the consequences handed down should any of these young men falter, tire, or fade.
This story by King is...
Pros: Terrifying, Typical King With A Twist, Nice Plot. Cons: Nothing, really.
Stephen King, in my opinion, is the greatest author of the past 25 years. His books are so lovingly crafted, with seemingly endless description put into everything, from the lamp to the color of the carpet. The Long Walk, as you probably already know,...
