Pros: Comforting, though in a weird way Cons: Haphazard
I’m always curious when it comes to vampire fiction; I’ve read a few stories written by Poppy Z. Brite, and found some of them to be interesting, so naturally, I was very interested in her debut novel, Lost Souls (I knew there were ...
Pros: None to speak of. Cons: Boring plot, uninteresting characters... what more can I say?
I don't know, but maybe Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite would be better enjoyed by a man. Nevertheless, I am a woman and I really did not like it. The male characters sounded totally unattractive, while the female characters of the book were...
Pros: "Goth" type vampire story with original plot and characters, names of characters Cons: none
Lost Souls
Author: Poppy Z. Brite
Price: 29.99 HC/ 6.99 PB
Poppy Z. Brite wrote a unique "vampire" novel at the age of 19 while she lived in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She originally started her novel without...
Pros: Moody and atmospheric. Interesting characters and settings. Cons: Nothing new added to the vampire genre.
Lost Souls. Is it just another vampire novel? Yes, basically it is. Is it good? Again, yes. This book is a great read, combining vampires, humans and a lot of weirdness.
The book sets us off in New Orleans, where three vampires (Zillah,...
Pros: Amazing gothic horror novel with a great cast, written in a very original style. Cons: Not for the squeamish, easily offended or homophobic.
I'm going to admit my bias right from the start - this book is one of my favorite novels ever, so you may want to take my opinions with a pinch of salt.
This book offers a new take on an old genre. The vampire story has been done and double...
Pros: vivid, compelling, fresh take on old themes Cons: graphically violent
Poppy Brite has accomplished the unbelievable - a new idea in the vampire genre. Brite is a hypnotic, compelling writer who can create prose that crawls under your skin and invades your subconscious. In Lost Souls, she takes the black and white world of...
Pros: exciting, a page turner Cons: goth stereo types
Dark poetic prose set in an eerie New Orleans atmosphere drenched in innocent blood. Poppy Z Brite takes you on a trip through the disturbed minds of an outcast orphan, psychic hippies, and vampires with a taste for blood and erotica. This extremely...
Pros: Delightfully humorous characters Cons: Too much knowledge revealed too soon
Poppy Z. Brite breathes new life into the world of vampire novels with the book Lost Souls. The characters are woven, and unwoven, and woven once more into a glittering storyline that is full of corruption, betrayal, lies, and a darkly beautiful group...
Pros: entertaining, intelligent, suspenseful, excellent writing style, clever Cons: sexual and drug content, slightly over-dramatic at times
"Lost Souls" by Poppy Z. Brite is one of the best novels I have ever read.
It is not only a horror novel about vampires, but it explores the themes
of loneliness and desperation as well. Brite builds a complex but easy-to-follow plot...
Pros: Different, interesting, refreshing. Cons: May be long for some.
Poppy Z. Brite is known for her originality, spontaneity, and of course her amazing talent for story-telling. She goes straight to the core of things, whether it pleases readers or not. Lost Souls is not intended for the soft-hearted, and ESPECIALLY not...
Pros: erotic; enthralling; visceral; delicious descriptions; you can see, hear, feel, what characters experience Cons: Some characters less interesting
A friend recommended Poppy Z. Brite to me when I told him of my darker interests and of my disappointment in the bland suburbanite sheltered world of Anne Rice. Lost Souls is my favorite followed by Drawing Blood and then Exquisite Corpse. None for the...
Pros: Emotionally compelling plot line Cons: Not a one
There is nothing more terrifying than being able to identify so closely with a book by the title of Lost Souls. Trust me, I know from first hand experience.
I first read this book when I was 15 years old. I sat there, in the dark, clutching...
Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite by everythingsux ,Mar 27 '08
Pros: Engrossing, well written Cons: None
Do you wear black lipstick? Do you like vampires? If so, you will probably love this book. I read this book when I was a gothic rebel teenager, and I remember getting sucked into the story and I remember being real sad when it was over, but don't worry, there are others. I loved this book so much, I ran away to New Orleans for a while!!! Someone once said that Poppy Z. Brite could write a travel guide to Hell and make you want to go, and that is totally true. I had to get the signed anniversay edition hardback of this classic.
