My sister was reading my latest issue of Essence this month and shouted to me from the living room about various artists that were featured in the magazine. I went to an online merchant's site that has samples. Most of the profiled artists didn't strike a cord with me. That was until I clicked on the first snipette of Susheela Raman's voice. We rushed out and got copies of Love Trap and Salt Rain. We were blown away by her lush voice, rich musical textures and varied ethnic rhythms. Love Trap has only two songs in english yet every song was beautiful to me. Susheela's music is now resting along side Sade and Nina Simone in my bedroom CD changer.
