Pros: Compact, rugged and waterproof, good GPS performance, good user interface, runs on 2 AA batteries
Cons: Very basic package, no accessories, no advanced features

Summary: The MeX 100 is a basic handheld GPS, one of the cheapest available from a major manufacturer. It has all of the standard GPS navigation functionality, but no built-in maps, and no supported external data communication link (but see the end of this review ... read more

Pros: Great price, accuracy, ergonomics, durability.
Cons: Hasp on battery screw hard to reach if you don't have fingernails sometimes.

Summary: I bought my eXplorist over a year ago when my etrex got eaten by a goat - really I have the photos. Anyway, I never liked the etrex because I use GPS units primarily to take lat/lon readings in decimel degrees and it was very difficult to read the tiny ... read more

Pros: Cheap and affordable, good satellite reciever, entering coordinates is easy, and durable.
Cons: It has no mapping, no cord for downloading waypoints from a computer

Summary: The Magellan Explorist 100 GPS is a very good starter GPS. It contains all basic GPS functions with a few pluses. It can quickly grab a satellite signal and hold on to it. I've used this GPS while geocaching and it serves well for this activity. Overall

Pros: Size and shape, Ease of use, Clear screen, Waterproof, etc.
    Cons: Color

Summary: I have read the other reviews on this page and they are very thorough and very accurate! I will just add that I, too, think this is the BEST GPS for the money. I use it for geocaching so maps aren't that important to me. This contains all the features
