Pros: Works with FireWire AND USB 2.0, good performance, light and portable. Cons: All minor: activity lamp should be different colors when reading and writing, vertical stand illogical.
I have to confess ... I have not been a big fan of Memorex products. For some reason, they have always seemed cheap to me. I have studiously avoided their blank CD and DVD media, preferring instead to go with brands like Verbatim or Maxell. That ...
Pros: SPEED! Quality Burns! Dual layer ability! Easy to use! Included USB cable! Cons: Well, it won't win any DVD burner beauty contests.
Well, the funeral was last week for my old I/O Magic DVD Burner, and its been replaced with the Memorex DVD dual layer burner. Set Up: This was a breeze to set up. For starters, this is the External model I am reviewing, its hard to tell ...
Pros: USB 2.0 and Firewire; secure space-saving vertical stand; low price; fast burns; flawless performance. Cons: Lacks Mac burning application; iTunes 6 with Mac OS 10.2 can't write (later versions might).
I've had this unit for about eight months and use it pretty regularly to read and write to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD±R, and DVD±RW. Haven't tried it with dual layer DVD's yet. It has worked perfectly and not given me any trouble. The write-speeds listed in its ...
Pros: Very easy to use. Low price. Cons: Cannot have other disc burning software installed.
I record a lot of my son's high school soccer games, and I am always being asked by the other parents or the coach for a copy of the DVDs. For Christmas I asked my wife to buy me a DVD burner so I would not have to re-watch my sons games over and over ...
Pros: Cost, speed, works well on its side for me (small footprint). Cons: Wished I hadn't had to uninstall Roxio and go through a few hours of angst!
It is up and running with the enclosed firewire cable (also has a USB 2 cable)-- works great and is speedy for an external DVD writer. Only one or two modules require extra $$ if you want to keep them -- watching DVD movies is one of them (extra $24 if you want it beyond 30 days).
I had lots of problems uninstalling the Roxio program "Easy CD Creator" that came with my Gateway. Nero would not load unless I did, and the uninstall also blew away my CD-ROM drivers with it. I had the factory disk, but no CD-ROM! I also found out the Systems Restore would not work (because of a little known conflict with Norton) -- which I have since fixed by following Norton & Microsoft tech bulletins). Thank goodness for an external hard drive back up of my Windows' system files. All is well now -- and it was well worth the Circuit City $79 price tag!!
Pros: Simple connection, fast, reasonable price, does the job. Cons: None so far.
I bought the external model so it could be used with different computers. Plug it in with USB and Windows XP does the rest. No problems in first 3 months.
==================================
After using it every day for 2 years and burning about 700 dvds, the burner died. Still, for the price paid, a Good Buy.
Pros: Sounds great on paper Cons: Bad software and caused my machine to crash multiple times.
I bought the internal model and it's a piece of trash. When I called tech support to describe the problems it was having they didn't even ask me any questions or try to fix it, they told me take it back to the store or mail it to them and they'd send me another, so obviously there are known problems. After I pulled it out my PC kept hanging up because Nero changed a driver or something and the machine wouldn't even boot in safe mode until the 3rd try.
Avoid this like the plague.
