Mad Dog Multimedia MegaVaultâ„¢ MD-AEN250COM FireWire (IEEE 1394a), USB 2.0 External Drive Case

Pros: Attractive, well priced, lots of cables.
Cons: DOA, lousy customer support, don't bother calling tech support

Purchased on 7/28/06 from CompUSA to use some laptop harddisk pulls. Was not able to make any of the first batch of drives work or even be recognized by my host machines running Win 98, xp, or Linux Suse and ubuntu with 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. Tried downloading USB diagnostic programs, which refuse to recognize the interface chip, let alone the harddrive, which in this case was pulled from a working laptop. Have been in touch with Mad Dog who refers me to FAQs on installation; I'm not a noob, been doing this since CP/M days. ;) Am trying to get a RMA with some assurance of turnaround time, and am planning to buy another external drive case so I can finally have a portable archive of my working files.(NOT a MadDog- I've bought three ADS external cases and everything worked without a hitch)
