The Magellan Maestro 3100 - Sets the Standard for Entry Level Travel GPS Models

by nc10 nc10 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Electronics, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jul 15 '07
Pros: Excellent Price/performance ratio, fast to lock, current maps
Cons: All the basic features you need, but few extra's.
The Magellan Maestro 3100 is a new entry level automobile GPS system, the least expensive model in Magellan's line of Maestro GPS units. While clearly an entry level GPS, and lacking some popular high end features, the 3100 is built around ...

by elmoebeesn Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 28 '07
Pros: excellent price, quickspell feature, functionality and usabilty are solid
Cons: voice interface can be annoying
Prior to the Holiday season I had been toiling with the prior generation of GPS system for my vehicle. While I already had a Magellan, circa 2001, I knew it needed updated as I further realized the technology had increased and my old one had lost some ...

Magellan Maestro 3100 GPS receiver will keep you out of the dark!

by korneroffice , Dec 20 '07
Pros: Quick, advanced, finds great routes
Cons: If you are out of range or caught in a downpour, it will stall.
I travel for work quite frequently, and instead of being on the phone, and asking for directions, I was given this Global Positioning Satellite system to use when visiting customers, to get there as quickly and painlessly as possible. A GPS system ...

New to Moving Map GPS World

by aerodarts , Sep 28 '07
Pros: Save yourself from guess work when trying to get to where you are going.
Cons: There are none. For basic navigation the unit gets the job done!
I bought the 3100 on sale!!! Before I bought this unit, I had only used a hand held GPS with no Map. I had to enter coordinates and name the Waypoints. It worked great for walking etc, but now I have a GPS with moving map! Big leap for me!!! After the ...

The best unit for $200 I have ever seen

by igglue , Aug 30 '07
Pros: Great price, wonderful interface, great search interface, and nice detour capabilities
Cons: Lack of text to speech, tight car attachment, battery life too short for pedestrian use.
There are lots of units out there for $200. But when you actually use it, you realize why it costs $200. Then you pickup Maestro 3100. It looks rather simple. Power it on outside and GPS locks on quickly. You scroll the screen and it pans fast. ...

Buyer beware...info about product unclear and no support!

by chrssher , Jan 09 '08
Pros: don't know - couldn't ever use it
Cons: nonexistent customer support after the sale
I cannot speak to the product's performance as we never got to use it. The 3100 was purchased as a gift; we live in Europe and received the gift during the holidays while in the US. Although the website clearly states that the European maps are available ...

Magellan Maestro 3100: Obviously an entry level GPS

by livewire_13 , Dec 15 '08
Pros: it's a GPS
Cons: lengthy calibration periods, sometimes poor directions, lack of features, unresponsive touch screen, battery life
Make no mistake, Magellan's Maestro 3100 is a no-frills, entry-level GPS. Will it get you from Point A to Point B? yeah. Will it always choose the fastest way, play your tunes, connect to your phone and wipe your butt? Don't count on it.I got ...

by exmedic113a , Nov 12 '08
Pros: Inexpensive, durable, intuitive, easy to use on screen features, and spot on accurate.
Cons: None....at this price and with these features I have no complaints.
The Magellan Mastro 3100 GPS is well rounded, does everything well, and is a good value for the money.  The unit itself is attractive and even stylish.  The LCD screen is bright and easy to read in both daylight and night.  It dims ...

Fantastic, Inexpensive GPS Unit!

by comediandan , Mar 21 '09
Pros: Easy to use, a lot more features than I expected, very inexpensive.
Cons: Doesn't drive the car for me -- that would be awesome.
I bought mine refurbished for $80 from RadioShack.  I wasn't expecting much, but this little unit is wonderful!  I'm a professional comedian and I use it in cities and towns all over the country.  Recently I was performing in Mexico and ...

Yes to the Maestro GPS

by mattkovalcik , Dec 27 '07
Pros: Slim, simple to use interface.
Cons: None really, but a hook or other device to mount it would be nice.
The Maestro is simple, well built, and easy to use. I literally took it out of the box, typed in the destination address, and instantly had a handy co-pilot to navigate for my trip. I like that the screen is large enough to view from more than a few ...

Excellent GPS...Solid Construction...Recommended
by mobilepi ,Jan 04 '08
Pros: Price,Solid Construction,Brightness,Voice,Dual Viewing Mode,
Cons: Somewhat slow right after saving addresses to memory, Simulator Mode needs to be sped up
This is an excellent GPS unit. Purchased for $135 over holidays on the internet. Have been using unit for past 2 weeks on a daily basis. It's a road warrior, meaning that the construction of the unit is solid, the touch screen is very accurate, and the internal battery last for approx 3-4 hrs (1-2 days if used intermittently) The best thing about this unit is that you can through this baby in your leather jacket pocket and port it around to just about anywhere. It's great for looking up POI's (points of interest) on the POI screen it has a great feature that allows you to tap the "closest to my location" (within 100 miles) button to find POI's in your area (provides phone #'s of most businesses). A great improvement over pressing the "City" or "Zipcode" button. It shortens the process, which is excellent for while your driving. Also, It takes less than 20 seconds, starting from the map screen, to type in an address and click the "route" button. Ive timed myself while looking up 3 different address, while driving. Awesome!
