Pros: Large screen, Clear Map, the included AAA tourbook info Cons: Can't always exactly pinpoint where you are. Audio sometimes difficult to understand.
The strange thing about electronics is that when I say, Ill never waste my money on that! Who needs it?? I end up spending my money on it and thinking, How did I ever live without this? It happened with satellite radio and now ...
Pros: Bluetooth, speaks the street names, very light and thin, many pre-loaded maps Cons: won't sync cell phone contacts, robotic female voice and no option for male voice
I own a Magellan Roadmate 760 GPS and over the last few years I've had to replace the spring-loaded connector three times. And now, all of a sudden, the unit takes forever to get its bearings on the initial start up of the day. GPS Options: ...
Pros: Sleek. Bright. Turns off automatically on ignition off. Mounts well on the windshield. Cons: Too many to list. Disappointing.
I'm currently looking to upgrade my Thinkpad-plus-wired-mouse-GPS solution for a better on-the-road sanity while taking off some of the pains of having the passenger carry a Thinkpad on the lap. I used a Garmin on a recent car rental from Avis, and ...
Pros: Strong window mount, tons of POIs, no "frills", 2006 maps. Cons: Poor tech support, some bluetooth phones not compatible
I purchased the Magellan 4040 a month or so ago, and so far, it has been simply a great device. I did have some glitches with it over the first month, but those were fixed by updating the firmware. As soon as I took it out of the box, turned it on, ...
Pros: Fairly easy to use, functions as expected. Cons: Out of box experience (no manual). Some features/commands are not intuitive.
I wanted a GPS unit because I travel alone and find it hard to navigate with a paper map. My first experience with GPS was with a Hertz rental car that had a Magellan GPS unit (Hertz Neverlost) and it was fantastic. I selected the Magellan Maestro 4050 ...
Pros: Calls out street names ahead of time
Good volume
Easy to use touch control
Cons: Wish address book could be accessed with fewer keystrokes
I am one of those poor souls who has absolutely NO sense of direction. I dreaded going anywhere new, for I would get hopelessly lost. Even armed with maps, I always managed to take the wrong exit, go the wrong way, be in the wrong lane, and spend hours ...
Pros: Good size, reliable, great brightness and visibility, simple to operate, usable text-to-speech Cons: Extraneous Bluetooth features, sometimes reboots, may or may not calculate the "best" route
I just noticed that another reviewer was comparing this unit (unfavorably) to his ThinkPad and GPS "mouse" combination, He decided that he might just as well stick with the ThinkPad on his front seat. Not sure that I see this as a valid comparison...I ...
Pros: "Exit poi's" ease of use, mounting hardeware, AAA tourbook, Cons: Will get you "close enough" to your final destination.
Magellan 4040 purchased 11/19/07 returned 11/26/07 Advise: If you want something to take you to a specific address DONT BUY a 4040! The 4040 is a fantastic GPS navigator from point A to B, but fails getting you to C (the finale address)! It ...
Pros: Size, cost, screen clarity, AAA database Cons: No physical brightness control, sometimes unresponsive to menu prompts, screen edge sensitivity, no mile scale
I'm not an expert with other driving-oriented GPSs, but in using my Maestro for the last few months on family and business trips, I have some opinions. Overall, I think this is a good GPS in terms of size, cost, screen clarity, and the AAA database. ...
Pros: Easy to use right out of the box, voice navigation makes getting lost difficult. Cons: Hefty price tag. Somewhat of a lag at times.
This review assumes that you already have a basic knowledge of GPS systems and are considering the Magellan MAESTRO 4050 as your model of choice. I work as a paramedic for a local hospital and we have this model GPS in one of our paramedic fly cars. ...
Pros: Looks nice
Touch screen sensitive
Cons: Tech support
Some mild issue with sound burps (Major issues)
Occasional system hang up
EDIT: I had to come back and update this. I ended up returning the product back. After the numerous reboots, and crackling from the speaker, the horrid support really crappy bluetooth. I can no longer recommend this product stay away I just bought ...
Pros: Great marketing Cons: Bad quality and service
Do not purchase a Magellan navigator. I made the mistake of buying. Someone warned me at the time that they had problems with their Magellan but I thought it was an isolated incident. After my unit stopped working I called the Magellan support ...
If only the Support was good by casual294 ,Nov 27 '07
Pros: Large screen
Easy to use
Voice commands
Accurate Cons: Mac supported
Slower than other units
Web site and support is very poor.
The unit performs very well. I had a Nuvi350 but it didn't provide accurate directions - this Magellan 4050 does. Overall it works well, but IF you need help DO NOT COUNT ON MAGELLAN for help. Their support is Offshore and they just follow a script. They do not take customer support to heart and can't think outside the script. You cannot contact anyone in their corporate structure to discuss your dissatisfaction because their phone system and operators won't let you.
Pros: Easy to use right out of the box. Cons: would like a bit more worning before a turn signal.
I have just returned from a trip from Chicago to Niagara Falls,Boston,Newport,Hershey Pa and points of intrest in between. I bought the 4040 in Arizona at Costco for $400.00
I then added the traffic unit to it that gave me 3 months service I can renew for $60.00 per year But I didn't find it helpfull and won't renew maybe on a long trip but I don't think so.
The 4040 was great it never let me down any place we went and if I missed a turn it recovered very fast and got us back on the right track. I would recomend this unit 100%.
Don't leave home without it.
Thanks Magellan for a great product.
Steer Clear of Magellan by smartbuyersd ,Feb 28 '08
Pros: Nothing. Cons: Faulty product and terrible company support
We bought the top of the line Magellan navigation system and the internal battery became faulty after 3 months. The company would not stand by the product, which was clearly a lemon. We had multiple phone calls with their "service support" crew in India. They sent us new batteries, but each one would die in less than a month's time. The unit was not rechargeable. We finally sent it back to them because it was worthless. They refused to give us either our money back or a replacement unit. So we are out $600. Navigate your way right past Magellan and go for a Garmin or Tom Tom.
