Pros: Voice control, Bluetooth Cons: Poor on-screen sensitivity
A friend of mine, eager to show off his new toy, recently gave me a few days with his new Magellan Maestro 4250. As I have said before, most of these GPS units come with the same standard features and it is really the presentation of those features and ...

Pretty cool GPS but still gonna return it... by arthurbou ,Jul 15 '08
Pros: Great GUI, when it works, it works great. Cons: Has some software bugs that need addressing. I'll try a TomTom next...
Well, I bought this from Costco for 300$ for a road trip from Ottawa Ontario to Baltimore MD. It worked quite well most of the time and the voice recognition was better than expected. Routing and rerouting was done reasonably fast and the signal was good most of the time. I must say the user interface was quite nice and easy to use. I did not read the instruction manual and was able to figure it out how to do most things. The bluetooth function lets u sinc it with your phone to make hands free calling and receiving and that worked very well.
The thing that is making me return this is the fact that when I started my trip from ottawa, it would keep constanly crashing and kept having to reset. Once I changed my destination to somewhere closer (Syracuse) it worked fine, and then I just rerouted to baltimore once I got to syracuse. Same thing happened on the way back. My wife was the one trying to figure it out and nearly threw the darn thing out the window.
Pros: Lots of enhancements Cons: Cost. Broke within 3 weeks of using it.
Bought it in February 2008, didn't use it until June 2008. It broke within 3 weeks. Won't charge. Have to send it back for repairs. I'm buying a Garmin c340 for about $300 less.
Nice unit but comes with old maps by mdktm ,Oct 02 '08
Pros: Easy to use, lots of features Cons: Old maps pre-loaded
The unit itself if nice, but then I noticed it comes with 2007 maps and newer 2008/2009 maps are available. I called and will be getting the new maps "free" but still have to pay $10 shipping. That is much less than the $80 the maps would cost, but I would think a new GPS with come with new maps or at least a free download. Anyway I am sure I will be happy with the unit once I get over this little annoyance.
Looks good but looks are not everything by brooklyn4boy ,Dec 03 '08
Pros: nice display and easy to follow directions. Cons: Bluetooth and VR might as well not be included, customer service is a joke.
The unit looks great but it does not work as well as it looks. The Bluetooth is terrible, garbled and not able to be understood. The maps are older but not too outdated, the voice recognition is very basic and not of much use,it has a habit of freezing up and then has to be reset which takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Has a good feature set but does not do them too well, not worth the headaches. Calls to customer service was of no use ,I was told that the unit does not support any of my 4 cell phones, there is not a list included to tell you what phones are supported or why they will not work, very poor bluetooth support, the 4040 maestro (older model) supported all 4 phones, go figure that one out.The customer service rep zeroed in on the bluetooth problem and did not address the other shortcomings,he left off with you do not have a supported phone go get one and it will work.
