Pros: Precisions directions, great voice quality and colors Cons: You have to purchase additional updates but you do with all units
I have owned and tried many GPS units over the last couple of years and they all had their good points and bad points. I have now found one that I think is the best one I have ever had, and it has flaws too, which I will go into later. I will not bore ...

Pros: nice touchscreen, good voice quality Cons: not many updates avail yet.
I really do like this 1412 GPS. In the past I've owned 3 other GPS units (Mio, Garmin, and HP) - so I have a good idea of what the competition is putting out there. The nicest feature of the 1412 is the touchscreen... its SO easy to select items on the ...

Pros: Small size, Text-2-Speech, Wide-Screen Cons: Not very customizable, map accuracy is not great
We just traded in a TOMTOM XL 330 for this unit because we wanted the NAVTEQ maps. This GPS was on sale from $350 and we got it for $220 at circuit city. So far if was been a good unit. The speaker is loud and clear enough to hear over a high A/C, ...

Magellan RoadMate 1412 ROCKS
by luckyeugene ,Jun 15 '08
Pros: Wide screen, text-to-speech, 3 hour battery, 6 million points of interest, user friendly. Cons: None yet.
I wanted to get this review out as I paid a low low price for the GPS at Costco. It was $150 because of a recent $50 coupon off their regular price of $200.
There are many sites giving the technical data. All I wanted to say is that I am very pleased at all of the features and how well it works. The text-to-speech is super. The 6 million points of interest covers absolutely everything in my city. The wide screen puts this model into a class with the more expensive models by Tom Tom, Garmin, etc.
Pre-loaded maps of the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
Be sure to check the Magellan RoadMate 1412 out. Even at $200 it is a steal.

Easy to use
by bobinkop ,Aug 12 '08
Pros: Wide, clear screen. Intuitive menus. Great text-to-speech and volume control. Fast startup. Cons: Turnpike service plazas are not included in POIs.
Glad I did not buy another brand based on features. At Circuit City I could play with all the models, and the sales manager recommended a Magellan, since I was (obviously) a first-time GPS user. We hit the road the next morning and my wife and I were able to use this model right out of the box -- and I usually don't touch anything without reading the user manual first.
It was so intuitive, and had all the features we needed for car trips. In fact, I put away my maps and relaxed -- the voice commands were loud and clear. Street names were all pronounced correctly. Easy to visualize next turn and to check upcoming maneuvers.
Wide screen is clear and bright. At night it seems to change to a black background, which is especially easy to read.
Quickly recomputes route when I chose another road (whether on purpose or otherwise). "Points of interest" are limited but helpful.

Junk Dont buy
by jhartney ,May 08 '09
Pros: Never got to use it enough to evaluate any. Cons: Fails to work properly. Customer support.
used the Megellan RoadMate 1412 once and after that it would not boot up. Customer support center is "over seas" so be sure if you call that you can understand broken english. Paid to have it shipped to repair center, they returned it stating nothing was wrong, but still would not boot up. Finally got it it work and lasted about a week then same thing, wont boot up.
