Pros: Great to have along and very accurate. Big help to my travelling wife. Cons: Sometimes won't power up, takes too long to acquire location, offline interface is limited.
We bought the RM 300 because my wife travels frequently but can't read maps, and wouldn't know east from west if she were staring into a sunset. On the positive side, when the RM is working, it is a wonderful thing to have. She has found it to be ...
Pros: Very bright and amazingly deep, functional interface, excellent reliability and performance Cons: street hunting interface can be clunky, streets sometimes missing or hard to select
Visual navigation systems are one of the modern miracles of the 21st century. I've seen and used some of them, such as Hertz Neverlost, and also my nephew's factory installed navigation unit in his Toyota Camry, and I think they're just astonishing. ...
Pros: None that can't be had in any number of better GPS's. Has no distinguishing benefits. Cons: Too many to list here -- read the full review.
I was very disappointed with this product, and returned it promptly. In my opinion, it lags at least two years behind the Garmin StreetPilot c320 and my personal favorite, the Garmin Quest. Shoppers are strongly encouraged to consider those products ...
Pros: Prices are dropping.
Screen size is nice. Cons: Software blows
mounting arm wobbles
lacks value
I bought the Magellan Roadmate 300 at Radio Shack in November 05 for $499. I took a roadtrip with it to Austin where I immediately spotted it on sale $399. Damn, I just wasted $100 I thought. I was very impressed at first with the features. Then I ...
Pros: Pros
Very clear and detailed display, excellent reliability and performance Cons: Cons
Offers roads which are not my preferred routes.
I bought it after seeing what the GPS units could do while traveling with a couple of friends. I was aware of the shortcomings mentioned below, but wanted to be able to find locations in areas I wasn't familiar which were nearby. I also wanted to ...
I bought this at Radio Shack's Black Friday sale. After just a couple hours, I ran into a serious bug without any effort on my part. When I finished one route and was ready to try another one, I touched "Select Address" on the main screen. Prompted to ...
Pros: NONE Cons: Overpriced, low quality, poor customer service
I bought this unit in June to help out with my traveling. What a waste of money and time that decision has cost me. The unit got me totally lost on my first trip. The fuse blew the second time I used it. On my third try the electrical connector pin on ...
Pros: Nothing, because the map concept behaviour is wrong Cons: It is impractical. See text
It was time to move up from my trusty Garmin eMap GPS. I used the new Magellan GPS on the way home from the store where I bought it but turned back to the store after 100 km to return it. I am sure that an owner of this GPS without exposure to anything ...
magellan roadmate GARBAGE ! by oceanitoo ,Mar 29 '07
Pros: none Cons: everything.
I agree with all the other people that gave this product
an F. I personally think that this product and magellan deserves a a greade of H or or Z, or even lower than that.
Let me give you a simple example, I tried to go t King of Prussia mall in PA, the thing is located on Mall Blvd. Now if you do not press mall blvd, it does not read. So I tried mall road, mall, mall blvd, mall boulevard, etc. etc. FInally after an hour of panning the screen I finally found it. Then I cried over the money I lost on this thing on ebay and decided to buy a Garmin or A TomTom.
I basically ended up buying a Garmin streetpilot c330.
Only then was I extatic with my product.
I threw out my magellan GPS in the trash ( well I gave ti to my sister and told her to just use it as a simple map.
Worked great right out of the box. by jrtexas ,Dec 18 '05
Pros: Quick startup; works out of the box. Nice size screen and good controls. Cons: Lack of volume control and relatively small internal storage.
Software loaded without a hitch and I was able to create a map region in just a few minutes. I also loaded the RM300 with addresses and set the user options from the PC software.
Didn't use the device until the SD card arrived (free! and delivery in 3 days). Installed the SD card, attached the unit to the windshield and powered it on. It found the satellites and located itself almost immediately.
Tried a couple of trips in our general area and the RM300 worked fine. The screen is large enough and works pretty well in the sunlight. The voice instructions are clear and understandable although I would prefer a physical volume control. The windshield attachment works extremely well. In fact, it's hard to remove from the windshield.
All in all, I'm quite pleased with the RM300. For the price ($399 at Target with a $50 Target card, thrown in) I think it's a great bargain.
Easy to use and pretty accurate. by roger1983 ,Aug 01 '05
Pros: compact, mounts perfectly, easy interface. Cons: takes too long to initialize, no way to enter starting address except USB cable.
I've had my RM300 for a few days now, it's been great except that sometimes it takes a while to figure out where you're at, the "initialize GPS" command seems useless even if there's a weak signal, you just have to wait and hope for the signal strength to go up. after finding a steady signal it works flawlessly on both highway and city routes. You can't really plan a trip using just the unit because the address you start at is pretty much either your current location, or in case it hasn't initialized, your last location where you had a strong signal.
GREAT LITTLE GPS FOR THE MONEY by wamo ,Apr 05 '06
Pros: Ease of use and accuracy Cons: Vague instruction manual and CD
Purchased my Magellan Roadmate 300 several weeks ago and as of now I think it's a great little GPS. It's accuracy is unbelievable, and I find it very easy to use. My only complaints would be about the very vague instructions that come with the unit, however, a call to customer service solved my problems in a very short time. I was impressed by the quality of the support. the only other problems I have had with the unit was that it would not acquire satellite signals when traveling Southbound when installed on the windshield of my 2005 Pontiac Aztek or my 2002 Ford Taurus. I believe tis is probably caused by the tinted windshields in both vehicles. The problem was solved by purchasing an external antenna. Also, with the external antenna you can install the gps in any location in the vehicle.
So many problems I returned the unit. by bpayment ,Dec 30 '05
Pros: bright display and pretty accurate Cons: slow download, poor quality hardware, glitchy software, not much internal storage
The first unit's touch screen and voice prompt did not work. I exchanged it but the second unit's voice prompt did not work. The third unit functioned correctly but I was unable to download a map to the unit. I had a lot of problems getting the CD's to read on any of my computers. I could only get the software CD's to read on one of my four computers. The device only has 80 megabytes of internal storage. This is enough to hold a couple of states worth of maps. The software that allows you to determine which locations you wish to load into memory only allows you to place rectangle shaped portions. It would be better if you could draw irregular shapes to better fit in the locations that a long trip would take.
biggest piece of GPS garbage out there! by gps_garbage ,Aug 30 '05
Pros: nice screen. Cons: in one word "GARBAGE"
i bought this from amazon.com, refurbished. that was my first mistake. my second mistake was thinkng it would actually work. the unit had some cosmetic damage, the body was scratched up. okay, no big deal. more problematic is this unit is NOT ABLE TO PICKUP GPS SATELLITES!!!! NOT!!!! At first try it took 15 minutes to detect its position. Now, 75% of the time it simply cannot locate GPS satellites. I drove 30 minutes, with the unit on, and the whole time it could not find itself. I drove from NJ to PA and for the first hour it also could not find its GPS positioning. What kind of engineering garbage is this?
