Pros: Size, value-for-dollar, PC connectivity, nice display Cons: Acquisition time, need for additional software
I've now officially entered the world of GPS with the purchase of Magellan's eXplorist 210. And now I know just where I am in the world... I received a few gift certificates for Christmas this year and decided to spend them on a new toy for myself. ...
First off I will tell you this unit is for more advanced GPS users. The Magellan GPS world centers around Mapsend software, Topo3D for topography maps, and DirectRoute for streets. You need this software to take advantage and use the eXplorist to it to ...
Pros: When it works its OK for road navigation. Cons: Not waterproof, takes forever to find itself, bad customer service. not worth owning.
Mine lasted for one set of batteries - by the time the battery died so did the GPS. The things are supposed to be "waterproof" but are unable to take salt spray on a kayak. After going back and forth with their on-line support department they give me ...
Pros: small size, good screen size, durable, price is good Cons: not to easy to set up at first, but gets easier over time
We purchased the Esplorist 210 as our first GPS and well we love it. It is a super size for the unit. Pretty easy to use. It is an attractive and is a great color. It comes with all the software, cables and everthing else that you need for this little ...
Pros: Very accurate, easy to use, reddish back light for use at night Cons: None, so far
The eXplorist 210 is a sensitive and compact handheld GPS receiver. The layout of the controls allow right- or left-hand operation. When turning the unit on under open sky, it finds enough satellites (12 is not unusual) for accurate 3D positioning ...
Pros: Easy of use,PC connectivity, general instructions Cons: Understanding some advanced features
This unit is great for me as I have no GPS experience. I have a feeling though that even if you do have GPS experience it will be great for you too.
As with anything, it helps to read the booklet before you use it to get familiar with the terms and such. But it is loads of fun and I look forward to using it while hiking in Arizona this summer!
Pros: price, ease of use Cons: joystick, software, tech support
Loved this little gps at first, than the satellites kept going out bringing me elsewhere. Not to mention the joystick quit working (been told by others it happens alot). 2 weeks later I'm still waiting on replacement model that each time i call they keep telling me I should receive in a few days, still waiting. Software is incompatible with Gsak and their own map software which takes quite a bit more work.
Pros: Dependability, ease of use, features - especially built in storage (22Megs). Cons: Firmware incompatibility makes uploading maps a bit more work .
I purchased an Explorist 210 as my first GPS, and it has continued to amaze me. I purchased the combo pack with the map disks (which I highly recommend). The detail and accuracy of the maps, along with the dependability and ease of use make this unit an ideal first time GPS, IMHO. I had only one issue with the unit - the Firmware was incompatible with the Map Send software. Instead of uploading directly to the GPS, I had to save to disk and transfer to it via Windows. (XP treats it like a thumb/jump drive or similar removable media) - not that big of an issue.
