A Decent Buy, Except...

by chulme66 , Mar 20 '06
Pros: Easy to Use, Great Recordings
Cons: Difficult to set-up in a multi-component system; No longer serviceable
Our 1st DVD recorder. Some headaches when attempting to initially set this unit up in our multi-component system. Not for the techno-challenged, for sure. 800# manufacturer hotline no help at all, won't explain how to hook up with various components ...

Junk! Junk! Junk!!!!!

by reevesk , Apr 12 '06
Pros: Cannot think of a single one
Cons: Everything including customer support
I bought this recorder back in November 2005. It was the most user unfriendly piece of electronic equipment I have ever encountered. Had to call 3 times before someone was able to explain how to hook up the system and get it up and running. It then ...

DITTO!!!!!!!!!

by bonhomme40 , Jan 24 '07
Pros: decent as a DVD player, accepts different formats
Cons: slow to load, confusing menu, periodic operating glitches
I bought this version last year, in October of 2005, for about $150.00. Nothing was intuitive, and the manual was adequate at best. That being said, I bought it primarily to record from TV and it did a passable job. The quality of most recordings was ...

Don't buy...has a history of dying after limited use
by jeff9977 ,Feb 07 '06
Pros: Records nicely, good playback.
Cons: Will completley stop working after limited use.
Bought this unit in August 2005 and used it very little but seemed fine and like a practical purchase. The record function is great but takes a little time to understand/navigate. The playback is superb compared to my other DVD player.
But...the biggest thing is that in January 2006, the unit just stopped working. Wouldn't power on, wouldn't eject the disc that was still inside, wouldn't do anything. Have searched a little bit and have found that many others have run into this same problem. Customer Service is a joke..they have an automated call system that takes forever to navigate through. And even though I live in Dallas, the only option they gave me is to ship the entire unit with the DVD still inside to Arkansas. Am guessing I'll never see the DVD again and have no clue when to expect the unit back or what will even happen now. Also not thrilled that I now have to pay shipping to get the unit repaired.
Bottom line, don't buy this model as it appears to have a history of poor reliability.

Junk
by entropym ,Feb 21 '06
Pros: How would I know? I hardly had a chance to use it.
Cons: Darn thing broke when it was five weeks old. That's a pretty big CON.
I'd look elsewhere. Mine stopped working after 5 weeks and 2 recordings. It took several e-mails and 2 months to get someone from Magnavox to respond. I had to ship my broken unit across the country at my expense then they gave me exactly the same thing four weeks later.
When it arrived, Fed-Ex had damaged it probably because it could have been packaged better. Now I'm filing a claim with fed-ex. I think that I'll get something else if Fed-Ex settles.

It stopped working!
by ripwild ,Oct 13 '06
Pros: Many input options; slim design; fire wire input
Cons: Menus are difficult to navigate through, would not burn discs with any reliability.
I bought this DVD recorder over a year ago primarily to transfer some TV shows from my TIVO and home video to DVD. I found the menus confusing, setup was difficult and at times it would error out on recording. Recently I tried recording a show from my TIVO and went through 3 discs with each one erroring out. These are good discs that burn in my PC without any issue, so it wasn't the quality of the DVD-R (actually DVD R 16x). The last straw was when it kept a disc inside and won't eject it. Nothing will work; resetting it will not work either. Only then did I do a web search and find that the model has terrible reviews and complaints from many, many people.
