Pros: Easy use and expansive tone selection.
Cons: The Tone Shift and Deep switches.

Summary: This is a really great amp head. It is the first Marshall I have ever owned and I bought it for it's low price and ease of use. So let me go in order about this amp. 1) Features: 50 watts, all tube, mine came with 4 12AX7s and 2 EL34s. I am not ... read more

Pros: Great clean sounding channel. Good price.
Cons: Channel 2 is ok, channel 3 is not usable. Poor quality

Summary: Marshall JCM2000 DSL401Combo Sorry this is posted on the head section, there is no section for the DSL combo. It's the same amp as the head just in a combo package. Also this is a repost from the original in 2003. With more info and ... read more

Pros: Classic Marshall crunch and glassy smoothness with versatile sophistication
Cons: None at all if you understand what you are looking for.. and that takes experience

Summary: I have owned my Marshall JCM2000/DSL50 amplifier head for close to three years and with very heavy use I have not experienced any problems at all. First of all I have been a Marshall fan for many years, however I have bought and used other ... read more

  • 20 watts of pure Marshall roar

    Dec 23, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Killer overdrive, good clean tones. Deep, satisfying crunch/singing solos
Cons: Not the cheapest of amps, poor quality speaker, poor clean headroom

Summary: I purchased this JCM2000 DSL 201 20-watt version (there are two versions, a 20 watt and a 40 watt) about a month ago during a Guitar Center sale. It lists for approximately $800 and at retail it usually goes for $600. The Guitar Center sale knocked off ... read more

    Pros: has 2 gain channels
Cons: no technology for the money, high gain channel lacks low end definition.

Summary: i recently purchased the dsl jcm 2000 guitar head from marshall. i cant say one good thing about this amp. the 1 st channel is okay at best for classic rock tones but lacks any mid range punch. the second channel which is the high gain channel is not ... read more

    Aug 24, 2001 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: great distortion, excelent clean channel
Cons: could have more controls on the channels, better reverb

Summary: This amp worked very good when I bought and still does. It has great distortion so its excelent if your in a rock or punk or a thrash band. Its great for traveling to my band practices and is loud enought to be heard over the drums. I have some problems ... read more

  • This head will blow your brains out

    Jul 30, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Great Sound, Loud beyond belief, It's a Marshall
Cons: Expensive, lacks some of the features of the competitors' heads

Summary: Ah, Marshall. The mere mention of the legendary Marshall name conjures up images of bands like Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk Railroad, BTO, AC/DC, and all of the other really LOUD classic hard-rock bands that we've all come to know and love (or hate). ... read more

Pros: Volume, Tube Tone, Great clean sound, great rock tone.
Cons: Expensive, Too loud most of the time, no separate EQ for overdrive channels.

Summary: Overview I've been using my Marshall DSL100 Tube Head for over 3 years now. It's a great head if you like rock, alternative, punk, or hard rock styles. It can even do metal if you so desire. Probably the most versatile all tube head from ... read more

    Jan 28, 2001 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Has the great Marshall sound that everyone knows and loves.
Cons: I hate tubes, and mine broke, so I traded it in.

Summary: Well, I had it for about a year and a half before the "output transformer" blew out on me. Can someone tell me what an output transformer is, and how does someone blow it? OF COURSE, this thing blew out on a day of a gig. Of course. So I took it into ... read more

  • Me & My Amp: We're an "okay" team

    Nov 14, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Excellent clean sound. Satisfactory distortion. Excellent "rock" sound
Cons: Vibration during clean playing is a little annoying. This amp doesn't do so well for "metal" sounds

Summary: I've been playing for several years, just for my own pleasure, mostly. I may be a casual guitarist, but I still like to sound as authentic as possible. Despite the valient efforts of Line 6 and Johnson, they really don't quite make it. I truly love the ... read more

Pros: Lots of character. And if played and used right, IT IS with the times.
Cons: Sounds a little thin @ moderate volumes. Horrible sounding ultra-gain channel.

Summary: Recently purchased this amp used with shiitty tubes. Re-tubed the amp with el34 JJ tubes which made a HUGE difference in the overall tone. I have owned many Marshalls. Mainly 2210 JCM 800's. I've have also played this amp alongside a Mesa Boogie Triple ... read more

Pros: Traditional Marshall sound. Three channel presets. Very portable.
Cons: Likes repair shop. Dirty channel has way to much boost. Needs better speaker.

Summary: I use this unit as a practice amp. Unless you are miked, it does not have the inherent reliability or power to be a good gig amp. This unit has had a history of running hot and crapping out after a couple of hours of use. Three trips to shop and a few tub ... read more
