  • The Martin DM: A good quality entry level Martin dreadnought

Jun 4, 2001 by Horswispr is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Musical Instruments
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Easy to play; good intonation; nice, crisp sound
Cons: doesn't have true dreadnought bass; sound not as refined as that of solid wood guitar

Summary: The Martin DM is one of the least expensive ways to own a Martin guitar. The DM is dreadnought-style guitar, like Martin's famous D-18, D-28, and D-35, but it is made of laminated mahogany, rather than solid wood, to keep the cost down. It does feature a ... read more

    Aug 27, 2007 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Price, playability, sound and it smells awesome.
Cons: No hooks for a strap, other than that...None!

Summary: I am in no way an Eric Clapton or Dave Matthews. Iíd call myself a ďnear beginner". So this review is more for those in that range. I love to play in the comfort of my own home as a hobby. I researched several low priced Martins and Taylorís including ... read more

  • 2007 Martin DM

    May 17, 2007 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Great action and high-end tone, intonation excellent. Quality, quality, quality.
Cons: Low end quieter than more costly Martins. Unadorned finish may not suit you.

Summary: I've been playing a Martin since 1975. I had to ship my damaged 1975 D-28 away for repairs which will take 6 months. I bought this DM as a relatively inexpensive short-term replacement. Compared to the D-28, the DM's appearance is more muted due to the ... read more

    Pros: Construction, playability, smell!
Cons: Low end not terribly crisp or defined, but better than any in the price range.

Summary: This is the second Martin I have owned--the other being a Martin Backpacker. Like many other reviewers, I have always wanted to own a Martin but have never been able to afford one. This year, I decided to drop the big enchillada, and went Martin ... read more

    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Great Sound, Quality Construction, Very Affordable.
    Cons: None.

Summary: I wanted a good steel string acoustic. Did the research to find out which ones were the best/most popular regarding sound, quality and price...It always came down to either a Martin, a Taylor or a "Larrivee"?. So I had some time to kill, thought I'd go ... read more

  • "DM" stands for 'definitely Martin'

    Jul 25, 2001 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: the Martin name, the price, the sound
    Cons: not the clearest low-end

Summary: If your first glance is at the price tag, you might not think that this was a Martin guitar. But be assured, this guitar is 100% Martin. About $650.00 (with a hardshell case) will buy you this guitar from any authorized Martin Dealer. It has a ... read more

  • The Martin Heritage at an Affordable Price

    Oct 27, 2000 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: good sound, nice look, great price
Cons: construction is quite different from traditional martin guitars

Summary: The Martin DM is a dreadnought shaped guitar made by Martin Guitars in Nazareth, PA. It features a solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back and sides. The finish is a very well-done satin. This exact guitar is also available as the DR with ... read more

    Pros: Too many to list...
    Cons: None.

Summary: It's simply impossible for Martin to make a bad guitar. I bought my DM in 2000 and it's been my main workhorse. I added a Fishman pickup when I bought it, but I normally just mic the guitar using an external mic and i always get a rich acoustic sound. I ... read more

Pros: Great sound, smooth tuners, nice satin finish
Cons: No good way to add a pick-up without losing a lot of tone.

Summary: My father just passed down his DM to me after he realized he had not touched it in six years. I used to use to take it to the Takamine dealership where I worked in college and got frequent offers to buy it. I also used to play it live in church with a ... read more

    Cons: None.

Summary: I just want to say that I love the Martin DM that I bought myself in late April. I am very particular when it comes to guitars, so I wanted the best guitar I could get. I already knew I wanted a Martin, just because I had played Martins before, and I ... read more

    Mar 10, 2005 by

Pros: It has the best projection out of all the guitars I've ever played or owned.
Cons: Could have done with coming with Gold Schaller Machine Heads (I've upgraded mine).

Summary: Who else in the world makes guitars as good as this? I would have to be a very rich man in order to find out. My DM is a little over a year old and is the best Guitar I have ever bought. It would be a shame too mention the other Guitar ... read more
