Pros: Includes a Bonus set of pens. Cons: Hard to Use, Costly, AVOID!
Originally one of those as seen on TV stints, now as common as grandma at bingo, the Marvin's Magic Drawing Board was one of the presents that my girls requested a couple years ago. Christmas comes but once a year, and grandma likes...
I saw the commercial on television and also the board was on one of the covers of Harriet Carter's catalogs. My mother called the number and ordered the board to be shipped to us on the west coast and it was out of stock first, and then it did finally...
Pros: glow-in-the-dark background provides a few minutes of fascination for toddlers Cons: doesn't provide clear, sharp pictures; need paper towels to erase markers; not as advertised
This reminds me of elementary art class. We had some randomly colored paper that was covered in black wax, and we took sharp instruments and scratched a picture into it, revealing different colors as we went. We ended up with a multicolored 'sketch' on ...
Pros: absolutely none Cons: complete waste of money
I'm mad. I'm plain, flat-out, outright mad. People can get away with messing with me. I'm pretty much a pushover. But don’t mess with my husband, and especially don't mess with my kids.
Okay, so I like to play with artistic toys now and then. Marvin's Magic Drawing Board looked so easy and creative when I saw it presented last year on QVC.
How do those guys do it? What is different about the Magic Drawing Board...
Yesterday afternoon my Venice job got even more complicated...children. An alumn arrived with three children in tow, desperate for some quiet time with his wife, and begged me to babysit the kids for a couple of hours. Being the good person I am, and...
Pros: none Cons: waste of money, didnt work at all
I'm sorry. The commercials were not just misleading. They out and out LIED to my child.
Do you remember in grade school - covering a piece of paper with patches of color in crayon and then covering the entire thing with a thick layer of...
Pros: She likes the Free Markers Cons: False Advertising
I must have sucker written on my forehead! My 3 year old has been begging for one of these for months! Every time the TV Commercial came one, She would ask for the Magic Board. I am really weary of ordering anything from Television, so I said NO. ...
Pros: Creates great pictures, easy to clean, no mess, non toxic. Cons: To hard for most children and/or adults to erase.
I remember doing art similar to this in school. It was a bit harder though. First you take a bunch of different colors. I always chose blue, yellow, green, red and orange. You randomly color a whole sheet of white paper, pressing firmly with each...
Pros: comes with cool color-changing markers, hasn't leaked black goop yet, 4-year old finds it entertaining (and it WAS a gift to HIM, anyway) Cons: doesn't perform as advertised, isn't worth the price
My son got Marvin's Magic Drawing Board as a Christmas gift.
Cute idea, but very poor execution
As described, it's a plastic frame, a psychedelic-colored background, and a layer of transparent material filled with...
This drawing board looked so cool on TV. I had seen the commercial on television several times when I found it at a major retail store. I was even able to get it for four dollars less than what it was advertised on television for and would also save...
Pros: works good as a coaster Cons: doesnt work for anything else!
This little board seemed to be a dream come true! No paper needed, draw pictures forever in a sea of rainbow colored background, all so simple to use and only for $20.00! I ordered this for my six year old for christmas and I must say, it was a huge...
I was browsing through some of the online profiles when I saw this toy listed under someone's dislikes. I had forgotten all about this ridiculous toy until then.
Basically, this toy is simply a board with a plastic film over it. The board...
Pros: Good Concept. Cons: Product doesn't work; Kids can't use it. I can't even use it.
This product has ruined my kids' morning. My 5-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter received Marvin's Magic Drawing Board as a birthday gift from a relative. She had it shipped to our house from QVC. It sat, correct side up, in the QVC box ...
Pros: I Received a Full Refund Cons: Where do I begin?
Junk, Pure Junk! The Magic Drawing Board ads were running during the daytime kids' TV shows, and the ad caught our Three year old's attention. Michael was watching it intensely, so I paid attention, too. Wow, this drawing board looks pretty decent! A...
My daughter saw the commercial for this supposed to be amazing product and really, really wanted it so of course I ordered it.
We ordered it way back in September and didn't receive it until December. She was so excited about it's arrival. When she...
Pros: Perhaps the goo might clear acne or something, it sure doesn't have any other pros. Cons: That would be everything.
I was actually on the bandwagon somewhat early with this product, having purchased it some 2 years ago when it first came out and before they started adding pens etc.. to it.
Now, I got it for my daughter who was then 1, but as it was touted...
Boy were my kids so excited when they saw this on T V. They asked for it constantly. I waited to give it to them till Christmas. They couldn't wait to play with it when it was unwrapped. They got all ready to do the things they saw on TV. NOT !!!! I want...
The only magic here is how quickly you realize that you've been suckered! My mother gave this little horror to my 7 year old son for Christmas. When he opened the present and saw what it was, he screamed with delight. Several hours later, when I was...
Pros: The free markers that came with it! Cons: The whole concept doesn't work. Misrepresented in commercial.
I know when I see ads on t.v. I think buyer beware. But I actually saw this at the checkout in Toys R Us, and figured it went mainstream - it must be a good product. Boy was I wrong. I bought this as a Christmas gift and was so intrigued by it, I...
Pros: Doesn't make a mess. Cons: Doesn't work like the advertisement shows. Hard for young kids to use.
My 9 year old daughter watched the commercial for Marvin's Magic Drawing Board every day on TV. She kept begging for it. I have to admit, when I saw the commercial I thought that it would be great! It looked so easy to use and fun too. So, finally I...
Pros: The color changing pens it comes with Cons: Hard to draw on, hard to erase, can easily lose the drawing piece
My daughter got this as a gift from my grandfather who saw the advertisement for it on TV and thought she would like it. My daughter is 6 and is really into drawing and arts and crafts right now. We got the drawing board which comes with a red piece of...
Pros: magic pens kind of nice Cons: hard to draw on and erase-
My daughter got this as one of her birthday gifts from my best friend, as a suggestion from me. The reason I suggested it was because every time we saw this on TV she would tell me that she wanted it. So when my friend asked me what to buy I readily told...
Pros: If you get them to show up, it has pretty colors Cons: Very hard for a child to use
I saw Marvin's Magic and I thought that it would make a great toy for my son. When he saw the advertisement on TV, he seemed interested in it. So I decided to purchase it and I called the 800 number. I was placing the order and then they told how much...
Pros: It makes for a fascinating commercial. Cons: Everything else.
For awhile, I was watching "Superfriends" and "Gumby" every night. During this time, cartoon network has the very best commercials. One of these such commercials was for Marvin's Magic Drawing Board.
I bought this toy for my daughter this Christmas. I honestly feel like I wasted my money. At first it seemed like a great gift .. that was until I noticed she couldnt work it. And I tried to do it. NOPE! It looked so easy on t.v. but it was hard to...
Pros: Looks really nice Cons: Doesn't work as expected. Bores children easily.
Don't you love seeing all of those really cool things on television ads and knowing you have to purchase one for yourself or someone in your family that will just love it? That's how I felt about Marvin's Magic Drawing Board. It looked totally...
Pros: sounds like a really good idea Cons: doesn't work well
I saw the ads for this on television and it looked really neat. I thought the idea of being able to make drawing after drawing with no wasted paper and only one drawing tool was a clever idea. There would be no markers to lose, no markers or crayons to...
Pros: A Convincing Commercial Cons: The Commercial is a LIE
My 7 year old daughter would get SO EXCITED whenever the Magic Marvin commercial came on. She even memorized the 800 number. While surfing for a Bewitched t-shirt for my wife, I stumbled across a site that carried both the Samantha shirt AND Marvin's...
Pros: free gift is fun Cons: overpriced, hard to draw with
The commercials are really slick at getting the kids to beg for it. It looks so easy and fun on the commercials. My 8 year old had been begging for it, and I kept saying it was too much. So when 'Santa' found it on sale at Eckerd for under $15 I...
The TV commercial looks great. Watching the obviously grown person make the drawings looks easy enough....I can't even get the thing to work. My 6 year old son got so frustrated with it his first day with it he has never picked it up again!
Marvin's Magic Drawing Board is a fairly simple toy. In consists of a brightly colored piece of plastic covered with a black, oil like substance which is in turn covered by a sheet of clear, pliable plastic. The idea is that you can scrape the sludge out...
From the first time my brother saw a commercial for this on TV, he decided he had to have it. We didn't order it from the commercial, but around Christmas Mom started looking in stores. Everywhere she went, she was told that either they'd never had it or...
Two of my children, my ten year old daughter and three year old son, got this as a gift from Granny. She thought it would be a great idea, especially to keep the three year old from writing on the walls. IT WAS NOT!!! This toy is very poorly made. Within...
Pros: Came with nice pens Cons: Toy is a waste of money
I am big on teaching my son the truth about advertising. How commercials almost always make toys look more spectacular than they really are. This toy more than illustrates my point. His Grandma bought this for him, lured by the nifty commercial that...
Pros: it does travel well. Cons: just not worth the money.
This was given to my 6 year old daughter over the holidays and of course as many she (nor anyone else in the family) could not get it to work as shown on television. I am disappointed that once again a company has used children to sell a product. They...
Pros: Looks easy and fun! Cons: Worthless, False advertising, does not do what it says, no magic here!
Could this be true? A small board that looks black ,but with a quick turn of this magic tool that comes with it, your hand starts drawing on it, and all of sudden you are some fantastic artist that magically brings out beautiful colors! Na, nothing,...
My son and I kept seeing the commercials for "Marvin's Magic Drawing Board". We both thought it looked pretty neat. My son loves to draw and doodle so this looked like a good toy for him. It would be a good toy to take in the car on long...
My 7 year old wanted one of these magic drawing boards really badly so we bought her one. This magic board was supposed to change colors when you drew across it with this little scraper thing. As you draw across different colors magically appear. My...
I purchased this for my 4 yr. old granddaughter after she had seen it on tv several times. I finally gave in and ordered it. I ordered it from AOL Net Market which is cheaper than the ad on tv. She was real excited to get it, however it was a piece of...
Pros: Less messy they doing it the old fashioned way with crayons and a bobby pin Cons: Doesn't work well unless it is warmed up and even then it is iffy
This was our big Santa surprise this year. As far as my daughter knew you could only get this off of tv and we would not order it for her. I found it a Michael's Arts and Crafts store and used a 50% off coupon making it around $10.00 for both the board...
Pros: the markers that come with it Cons: it just plain doesnt work!!
After months of hearing my seven year old niece whinning everytime the commercial for Marvins Magic Board came on, I finally decided to call and order it for Christmas. Of course when she opened it on Christmas she was thrilled as can be, but by an hour...
Pros: The markers worked really well, and there were a lot of them Cons: the product was a let down, it should have lasted at least through one day, you couldn't erase anything, you couldn't draw anything in full
My mother-in-law is the queen of mail order. My mother-in-law saw this "terrific learning tool, and fun for the family" item on television. There were lots of colored markers that did "cool" things, such as magically change a blue...
My husband and I thought it would be a great toy for in the car to keep them calm while we drove for a quick vacation 6 hours away. But every couple of min I had to erase the board because it is not so easy when all the ink is on one side of the board....
Pros: NONE IN MY BOOK!! Cons: DON'T WORK, MARKERS DIE IN LESS THAN 10 MIN. POOR PRODUCT.
I BOUGHT FOUR OF THESE " MARVIN MAGIC BOARDS " FOR OUR KIDS AT CHRISTMAS TIME AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THERE IS NO MAGIC IN THEM AT ALL. THEY ARE A TOTAL DISSAPOINTMENT. I WOULD NEVER RECCOMEND THEM TO ANYONE!! WE SAW THEM ON TV MANY TIMES AND IT ...
Pros: NONE Cons: Totally over priced, and definately does not work!!!
When I was a kid, my mother purchased a Marvin's Magic Drawing Board for me, due to the fact that we had done alot of traveling when I was little.
My mother thought this purchase would be a great deal for her to keep me occupied on our...
Pros: Looks fun on TV Cons: Doesn't perform as advertised
My two kids just had to have this for Christmas. After all, it looked really neat and effortless on the commercial. I should have realized something was wrong when I went to the store and they only had one tiny display box of them for sale. This product...
Pros: neat colors!! :) Cons: advertising is misleading
My sons grandparents bought this for him,and at first it look really cool. He received it before they started showing all the commercials. I had never seen it before, so it looked really neat..that is until we actually started using it. Then when I saw...
I bought this magic drawing board because my son saw it on television and asked for it for his birthday. Years and years ago, I had one. Way back then it was no good, but I figured that for them to still be around, they must have improved.
This Christmas, my husband and I purchased this for our 6 year old who loves to draw and do any kind of art. Well, the minute she opened it we knew it was just a big piece of garbage and a total waste of money. I hope we can at least exchange it for something else at Toys R Us. All I heard for 3 solid years was how bad we want this toy and when I finally do buy it, it turns out to be awful. I would never recommend this toy, the only good thing about it was it didn't make a mess.
A complete and total waste! by gregrobbins67 ,Dec 30 '03
Pros: None! Cons: Everything about this product stinks!
Fortunately, my daughter received this item as a gift. Never the less, I'm mad that this piece of junk is even allowed to be marketed.
The instructions show how to make wonderful pictures with the board. Among others, it shows the Mona Lisa. Give me a break! There is no way on God's green Earth that a person could even come close to making any of the pictures that are displayed on the wrapping.
Then there's the Bonus Magic pens. More scamming going on here.
I have seen on websites that with the pens you get a drawing board, stencils and instructions.
There was a piece of wax paper, I guess this was the drawing board, no stencils or instructions were included.
The pens don't work on the wax paper. The ink just beads up.
On regular paper the pens work like regular felt tip markers.
The pens advertised as color changing pens, work marginally.
This is the biggest waste of money that I've seen in a long long time!
PIECE OF CRAP - AVOID LIKE PLAGUE by azure2 ,Jan 03 '05
Pros: NONE Cons: Is worthless. False Advertising. JUNK
Bought the Marvin's Magic Drawing Board at QVC online after seeing it advertised on their show. They made it look easy but when the kids got it for Christmas 2004, it didn't work. They were very disappointed. AVOID THIS LIKE THE PLAGUE. The board didn't work - no matter how hard or soft or what angle used - it didn't make a picture on the board. The markers didn't work. The black goop didn't move when the plastic piece was used to draw on the board. It brought nothing but tears to both kids. There is nothing good about this product except it should be recycled and made into something usable. The company should be sued for false advertising.
Pros: There are not pros. Honestly. Cons: Drawing with it is not as easy as they make it look. This is garbarg. REALLY.
I am 47 yrs old, this product was around when I as a kid. My son saw it on demonstration last month in FAO Schwarz (NYC); looked great but I knew better (Because I had it as a kid). Long story short, we got it for my son from Amazon. It's the same piece of poop it was when I had it. He has had it a month and the black chemical is already seeping out the corner. It's a Dud. Don't be fooled by those fancy demos in the store. They take place under warm lights that make the product demos look better and easy. This is a total waste of money. Now I cannot even return it (I bought it on line) because the G&W Distributors printed on the box I cannot locate when I google them (in Marlborough, MA)>
