Pros: Lots more usable space in freezer. Perhaps largest capacity to fit in a standard opening. Cons: Still many design kinks to be worked out. Closely analyze the store display before purchasing.
If, like me, you like to stock up on sale items and keep them in your freezer, but the cramped space in most refrigerator/freezer combos is making you consider a stand-alone freezer, you may want to take a look at this unit first. There are a lot ...
Pros: Nice conveniences, a lot of space. Cons: Ice maker takes up a lot of space. Hassle getting it in my house.
Last year after building my new house the time had come to purchase a new refrigerator. I thought that I pretty much had my mind made up on what I wanted, until I went looking. Don't you think the primary cooks of households ought to design these ...
Pros: The design is great. Cons: See my review comments, - there are too many to mention!!
We bought this refrigerator for the same reason many of the others on this website said (the design, wide shelves in the refrigerator, water and ice dispenser, etc.) We were very excited about this new product. I have always hated the thought of a side ...
Pros: The size of the refrigerator is great for a large family (6) Cons: Freezer, cooling, ice maker, water drips from water dispenser.....etc...
I am sorry to say that we bought this refrigerator on brand reputation, and it has not measured up. We have had problems with it since we purchased it in 2001. The ice maker has been a constant problem, does not make ice well, the water sprays all over ...
Pros: size trays or a turkey can fit either side Cons: Tilt Bin for soda pops out
I paid 1750.00 from sears had it delivered. They had to remove
the doors to get it in the kitchen ice maker wire's and hose
money well spent 1750.00 is a bit much but my wife fell in
love with the large doors. I have had it about a year...
Pros: This refrigerator has a lot of storage space and easy access to items. Cons: Poor service. Poor quality. Disappointing for the money.
You know that commercial, the one with the service guy sitting for hours on end with nothing to do? Well, I wish I could get a hold of him right now. I would choke the ever lasting $%^#$*&^$ out of him. At this very moment I have been on hold for an ...
Pros: You can store a Extra Large pizza box flat in fridge.
Lots of door capacity. Cons: Don't need 3 drawers in bottom of fridge.
Water/ice "pillow" wearing out.
Wow, I feel like we lucked out! We purchased our fridge when we built our house 5 1/2 years ago. It's held up well, haven't noticed any of the temp discrepancies mentioned in other reviews. One issue with water dispenser/ice maker recently is ...
Pros: We still like the door config. Cons: Poor quality, terrible extended service, clueless customer service.
Our first unit was shipped and installed without a fan. That's right, it was missing the fan that circulates cooled air. The dealer said that it would take several days to properly cool down because we have a large family and the door gets opened ...
Pros: None I can think of Cons: price tag way too high for such a horrible appliance
We purchased our Wide-by-side in April 2001 - the first year it was launched. It has had constant temperature problems from day one despite being serviced (freezing produce even with temp dial set to low setting for example). The thermostat control has ...
I hate my Maytag MZD2766G wide by side. by rlmathias ,Feb 17 '04
Pros: I like the concept of the refrigerator Cons: You need to own your own ice company to enjoy this refrigerator.
I thought that I was buying a very large refrigerator. I do have a very large refrigerator with little use. I cant put anything in the crispers on the bottom that I dont want to freeze, lettuce, fruit, cheese. Frozen lettuce is not very good. The ice-maker only works when it wants to. It takes a good minute to fill a cup with water. The top part of the fridge is always too warm. I have had my refrigerator 5 months and have gone through two ice-makers and now have the repairman coming again because it stopped working. The repairman has been here approximately 9 times in 5 months. The elevator shelf came broken in the unit, then a shelf in the freezer kept falling. He had to rig it with some type of spacers, all along the ice maker kept breaking. I would never recommend this refrigerator to anyone, and Maytag will not take it back. Lowes said that they would take it with Maytag's approval, but maytag said no. We just have to have our repairman here every week. Please dont buy a Maytag refrigerator!!!!
Maytag Plus (MZD2766) Disappointment by rolfsherlock ,Jan 20 '04
Pros: Physical specifications; Functional specifications Cons: Food freezes in refrigerator section; Ice crusher unreliable; Water dispenser drips; Finish easily scratched
Because the physical/functional characteristics met our needs we purchased this product. However, it has fallen far short of expectations. The following is a partial list of the failings:
- Independent of the settings, food in the lower refrig containers freeze.
- The ice crusher failed after 13 months (post-warranty).
- The water dispenser drips.
- The finish (black) scratches very easily.
I strongly recommend against buying this (or related) product.
Pros: Great use of space. Can fit a whole pizza. Works wonderfully. Cons: Ice machines shoots ice out a little fast.
We love this frig. We have had it for over a year with no problems. The space is awesome and ease of use great. The only thing that isn't perfect is the ice dispenser which shoots ice out a little fast. It cleans easily, the crispers work great and the slide out baskets in the freezer help you access those hard to reach items. I love the fact that the water dispenser gives out filtered water, not just tap water. I recommend this frig to everyone that likes side by side but wants a little more room for big items.
I want this refrigerator out of my house! by icecoldmom ,Aug 19 '04
Pros: wide enough to hold everything I put in it Cons: water leaks from underneath, ice maker doesn't drop ice stainless steal shows too many scratches
I thought I had the best but I was mistaken. MayTag is suppose to be BEST! There are too many malfunctions. The condensation tray overflows constantly causing a flood in my kitchen, hallway and guest bathroom. The ice maker is always malfunctioning (we have to buy ice) and the food in the freezer is coated in so much ice you can't even dig out the ice cream. The repair techs (7 of them) cannot fix the thing. The best thing about this wide by side is I can always fit everything into it. Bulk shopping is welcomed and the pull out trays are a plus. But we like cold water and crushed ice and this feature just did not measure up at all.
I've had this refridgerator for less than five years and have already dumped over $900 into it for repairs. So far we've had the following problems: * Compressor fan went out ($400) * Motherboard failure ($300) * Circuitboard failure ($200) * Numerous problems with water and ice dispneser ($???)
Refridgerators are supposed to last 15 years ... and here I am on ONLY five having pumped in enough money to just go out and get a brand new one!
To make things worse, Maytag's customer service is atrocious (and that is being kind). I've been hung up during a transfer 3 times, redirected to a personal residence once and recently had to regurgitate my model/serial number SIX times in a SINGLE conversation! And oh yah, this was just in the last TWO DAYS!
Horrible product ... horrible service (after explaining how long I've had the appliance and the problems customer service says ... "Good luck.") = NO MORE MAYTAG APPLIANCES PERIOD!!!!!!
A Poorly Designed Product! by subhash_m ,Mar 11 '05
Pros: Great looks.
Roomy interior.
Some amount of thought spent in designing the interiors. Cons: Rust. Yes Watch out for that!
Drippy Water spout.
Unreliable Ice Crusher unit.
Noisy.
It has been 3 1/2 years since we brought ours. Seemed to be a great acquisition at the time. Over a period of time we have realized that what looks can be deceiving.
Within a few months, ice-crusher unit failed. Was fixed within the warranty period. The problem reoccurred a few days prior to the end of the warranty period. This time we had the technician replace the entire unit stating a recurrent problem. The same problem has not recurred.
Biggest disappointment! We discover rust formation on the door panels (under the paint) below the water-spout. Investigation reveals the iron door panel sheets have not been covered completely by the plastic, resulting into water seepage leading to rust. Contacted Maytag and after numerous discussions which went up to Executive management, Maytag agreed to send in a technician to have a look at the problem (at their expense). Have to give credit to Maytag for this.
The technician decided that the door will need to be replaced and has ordered one since. He has also informed me that the newer door design has probably not changed and I may have the same problem at my hand eventually!
