Given that the New Year began with the death of an old appliance--our washer--Himself and I decided that the time was right for a first during our 34 years of marriage: We would purchase a new washer AND a new dryer to meet our laundry needs. We would ...
Pros: Very quiet and efficient Cons: The price is higher than most
We were recently forced to replace our dryer. Well, forced isn't exactly correct... Our current dryer was 18+ years old, and getting parts was difficult. In all it's years, it had only failed once when the belt broke. I fixed that and put it back into...
A Little Background Doing laundry had become what felt like a never-ending project when our 12+ year-old Whirlpool dryer suddenly stopped working. Load after load seemed to take longer and longer, and by the time the first batch of laundry ...
Pros: Ease of use, wrinkle release, capacity and wrinkle prevent Cons: Expense for time I got to use it, broke too quickly
We have had our Maytag Neptune for almost 5 years. We are now experiencing trouble with it drying our clothes in a reasonable amount of time. The Sensor drying option, doesn't work at all anymore, as the clothes will still be wet when they are supposedly ...
Neptune Dryer keeps up but has serious lint filter problems. by arlgray ,May 16 '05
Pros: This dryer works quickly and efficiently. Multiple settings provide a wide range of drying options. Cons: The lint trap allows dangerous levels of lint to collect in the machine and vent.
The delightful aspect of our Neptune electric dryer is its ability to dry loads as quickly as its companion washer can clean laundry. The downside is the potentially dangerous lint buildup due to a highly inefficient lint filter. Very little of the lint is trapped in the filter, with the majority of it being sent into the vent. Dog fur tends to collect in a mat around the door rather than being collected into the filter. The design of the machine makes it extremely difficult to remove the buildup of lint that escapes the filter screen.
Unreliable, Loud, Poor Service, NOT RECOMMENDED! by davis328 ,Oct 18 '03
Pros: None Cons: Unreliable, Terrible Service from Maytag, Loud
I deeply regret the day I purchased my Maytag Neptune (Model MDE5500AYW) dryer.
My dryer (which is still under warranty from Maytag) has been totally nonfunctional for over a week, and the Maytag repairman just left the house. They're ordering parts and will try to fix it again next week. In the meantime, I have no dryer.
I've spent hours on the phone with Maytag, and they are unwilling to do anything to expedite having the dryer fixed. I've never experienced such terrible customer service in my life.
Maytags are a waste of money by ibushman ,May 18 '07
Pros: Large capacity Cons: Very unreliable, always needs repair. Slow dry.
We purchased our Maytag in August 2002 when we moved into our new home. We bought Maytag because supposedly the Maytag repairman never has anything to do because they are so reliable. That's a riot!!! We have both the Neptune washer and dryer and are now on our 4th or 5th service call in less than 5 years! We've spent close to $1000 on repairs and additional warranty coverage, and the thing was so expensive to start with. I also have 2 friends who have purchased them and have had problems - one went out 1 month after the warranty was up, she just went out and bought a different brand, rather than keep paying to fix it.
DO NOT BUY A NEPTUNE!!!
Neptune dryer - too much lint exits thru dryer vent. by pepprmint ,May 11 '09
Pros: It dries. Cons: Lint problem.
We replaced our old maytag washer and dryer (and vent hose) with the neptune and noticed an enormous increase in the amount of dryer lint deposited on everything within 5 feet of the vent on the patio, chairs, etc. I clean the filter before each load. I also think the dryer is a bit rough on the clothing and find sheets and pants twisted tight and therefore wrinkled terribly. (same prob with washer.)
Yeah, I'm sending it back for a replacement by ariel798 ,Jun 23 '05
Pros: quiet, nice style Cons: price tag!
Paid the price for the reputation of a Maytag. Well now I am sending it back for a replacement! At one month old, the belt that turns the drum was in shreds. The Sears repairman came and didn't have a belt with him. Had to order one. So that was 2 weeks of the 6 weeks that I owned it, that it didn't work. After 4 loads with a new belt, I opened the door to take out a load and found some type of sealer material that goes between the stationary parts and the drum hanging down, and pulling out all the way around. I called Sears and told them to get me another one. This one has lost my confidence. What really gets me is that I threw out a 20 year old Kenmore dryer that worked every day of its life for this! We bought the matching washer too. I can hardly wait to see what happens with that!
Maytag Neptune Dryer Disaster! by danyos234 ,Mar 22 '09
Pros: The only good thing about this dryer was that it matched my washer! Cons: My wrinkle free "Dockers" came out wrinkled.
Paid over 1000.00 for a dryer 1st time in my life...thought for that price I would be using it for some time to come...2.5 years after purchase the "stainless steel" tub began cracking on the seam...I called Sears and the guy said "too bad"....I did not purchase an extended warrenty...the price of a new tub and delivery alone reached 400.00, then I would have to pay to have it replaced out...I disposed of the dryer and bought a brand new "General Electric" for around 400.00. Never again will I shop at Sears, nor will I buy a high end piece of equipment to dry my clothes!!!
Pros: Good performance for first year; better purchase service warranty. Cons: Repair cost excessive.
No vent problems found; takes too long to dry and moister collects at filter and door. This started after 4 years of use. Tyring to diagnose myself because repair services cost too much. Have printed parts list from Point & Click Appliance Repair; however, their free service is not available at this time. I think that Maytag should have a link that offers free advise for those of us that are able too repair our appliances. Many homeowners are not stupid and are more than qualified to repair almost any home appliance. If Maytag desires to have the best product reviews, offer something back to the consumer that can be free.
