Pros: Sweet, malty, rich, fantastic dessert beer Cons: None come to mind
Summary: Ok, bad play on words. But what's in a name? Specifically, what's the difference between Scotch and Scottish, as far as adjectives go? This beer is called Scotch ale, but it's brewed by Scottish and Newcastle Breweries PLC. Furthermore, Belhaven makes a...

Pros: Complex taste Cons: Not a session beer (but I'm not sure this is a Con)
Summary: Oh how times flies! It is already Christmas time and the weather has turned nasty. It's time for me to trade my weissbiers and fest beers for a heavier, bolder group of brews to keep me warm. In this review I thought I would hit on one ...

Pros: A powerful wee heavy Cons: None, if drunk properly
Summary: Based in Edinburgh, Scottish Courage was formed in 1995 when Scottish and Newcastle, after many years of acquiring several smaller breweries, took control of Courage. Scottish Courage is now the leading brewer in the UK and one of the...

Pros: Big, soft, smooth, malty and hugely complex Cons: Not a beer for light beer drinkers...
Summary: One of the things I love most about winter is that the season just begs for beer drinkers to reach for the biggest, boldest, tastiest beers on the shelf. It's the time of year for barleywines and old ales, or maybe for a scottish wee heavy -- like the...

Pros: Thick strong taste. Dark look is deceiving. Cons: Sour after taste. Not a very strong ale.
Summary: I went to the beer store yesterday and asked the manager for a good tasting beer. His answer was McEwan's Scotch Ale.
Having had a fairly steady diet of Molson Canadian and Labatt Ice over the past few years has left my throat urning for an...

Pros: Great flavor, full body, smooth palate Cons: Not for mass consumption
Summary: With its cold snowy climate, and men wearing kilts (without underwear), you would guess that an ale developed in Scotland should be something strong and warming. Compared to the traditional pale ales and bitters of the British Isles, Scottish ale is a...

Pros: Smoky flavor, sweet, strong Cons: Expensive, more than a few and you'll think you're the Loch Ness Monster
Summary: If you've never had a Scotch Ale, this is a good place to start...just don't have too many or you'll wake up wearing a kilt in a gutter in Glasgow.
The reason for this is that this beer is strong--8% to be exact. That's fairly high in...

Pros: Rich hops taste, low carbonation Cons: having to share it with friends
Summary: I ordered a case of McEwan's on the advice of a crusty ol drunk that I met at a backwater bar in northeat ohio . I must admit it was the best advice I've receive since my cousin Elmer told me not to pee on the electric fence. But seriously this is a...

Pros: Dark, rich and complex Scotch Ale Cons: Slightly sour undertone and aftertaste
Summary: When I think of Scotch Ales I usually think of McEwan's as it has the complexity that belies its deep, rich texture. What it misses is the clean finish I would really like on a Scotch Ale, like Bert Grant's. On the pour this beer is a deep, dark...

Pros: Light carbonation, strong malty sweet flavor with a warm, satisfying finish. Cons: No longer available in North America thanks to the black hearts of swill peddlers.
Summary: A malty honesty and sweetness with light carbonation provides a true Scotchman the native ability to fly. One of the best brews in the world. Curse Heinekin for there purchase of Scottish Courage

Pros: best beer in the world Cons: can't buy it anywhere in New England
Summary: I love this beer, but the store tells me that apparently the brewer has been bought out by a large corporation and the beer is not available anywhere in New England. Can anyone tell me how to get in touch with the company who now owns this

Pros: Dark, Strong, Good alternative to Guiness. Cons: High alcohol content. Rarely Syrupy.
Summary: If dwarves were real, this is the beer they would drink. This ale has a powerful alcohol content you can't help but notice even after a couple of them. Low malt flavour and it tastes more mature than other
