Pros: nice looking, nice sound. Cons: Glowing LCD is driving me nuts, my clock won't automatically recognize ipod.
At Target the other day, I bought the Memorex iWake MI4004 Clock Radio on a whim. I paid $79.99 for it. I had read some negative reviews on iHome’s clock radio, so I picked this one. Besides, the clock radio this was replacing I had had since 4th ...

Pros: Snooze button Cons: Horrible controls, doesn't remember volume settings, display is way too bright to sleep
I bought this for my pregnant wife, who wanted to listen to classical music every night before going to bed. She really wanted a simple CD player so she could "just hit play" and go to sleep. But I bought this instead, thinking the iPod would give us ...

Pros: Looks good. Nice sound when playing the iPod. Neat features like Daylight Savings Time switch. Cons: Poor build quality. 1980's Atari-style display. Poor radio reception (particularly AM).
Right out of the box, this was a nice looking unit; unfortunately, I powered it up and the first thing I tried to do was set the time....the Time Set button didn't work. The Alarm 1 Set button worked fine but the Alarm 2 Set button didn't work either (I ...

2-month lifespan?
by vorpal_blade ,Feb 06 '07
Pros: Attractive, well laid-out controls. Cons: Short lifespan.
Ours died within 2 months. None of the buttons work, and we can't reset the clock or turn on the radio. I'll be checking reviews to see if we can find one that's more reliable and has better features this time. It's a shame - it's a pretty little device, and I had high hopes for it.

Not shock resistant!
by pizzagyrl ,Feb 14 '07
Pros: Great features, great sound quality. Cons: Bright display even with dimmer on. No preset stations.
I received my iWake as a Christmas present and up until now my only complaint was that you couldn't preset radio stations, but it was only a minor inconvenience. After only having it a little over a month it quit working. I had touched the button to change the station and there was a minor static electricity shock and everything quit working. This was the type of shock you feel after walking across carpet and touching something. I could not believe that a minor shock like that would fry the whole computer system. I am VERY disappointed in the durability of this product.

Piece of CRAP
by girl2nv ,Feb 15 '07
Pros: None Cons: Horrible squealing noise when using iPod, too bright at night, bad sound.
This clock radio is horrible. When I tried to listen to my iPod through it, it made this terrible, high-pitched squeal the entire time. And it would get louder along with the music volume, if turned up. Also, there is only like 2 settings for the clock light display. So at night, even on the lowest setting, the whole bedroom is lit up. Yeah, like I can sleep with that! I personally like the room dark when I sleep. If you want a clock radio with iPod capabilities, just get the iHome. That's what I did. It actually works great.

I Love It (so far)
by teresa34 ,Feb 24 '08
Pros: Price! Sound quality, Sleek design Cons: Volume could turn up a little louder
Now granted I only bought this yesterday so I can't say anything about durability. I bought it to put in my bathroom to use while I shower. I have an iHome in my office at work and honestly? I like the Memorex iWake better so far. I like the sleek design and yes, the buttons are recessed and must be "seen" to be used but I like the fact that dust won't get down in them. I also like the remote that came with it, some iHomes did not have a remote with them, you had to pay for it. The sound quality is excellent, only drawback is I wish it would turn up a little louder (yes, I like my music loud!) The backlight has an adjustment for high or low, even in my bedroom this would not bother ME, but everyone is different. I likely will never use it as an alarm. You couldn't beat the price, less than half what my iHome cost.

Avoid
by punchycat ,Jun 08 '07
Pros: Easy to set up Cons: Short lifetime, unresponsive technical support; backlight too bright even on dim setting
The iWake was decent enough at the start: the iPod sound was fine. The radio had static, even with the antenna wire extended, but that could just have been the location.
After three months or so of very light usage (maybe two hours a week), the iWake just stopped working: the radio could not be tuned, the volume and clock could not be set, nothing. Memorex support has been completely unresponsive (as unresponsive as the device), and based on this experience I would suggest finding a better device and better manufacturer.

static electric shock restarts it is a piece of ______!
by yourmomlikesu ,Dec 16 '07
Pros: looks clean Cons: not grounded properly. overpriced
this is a huge waste of 70$,
who ever designed this thing should be fired,.preferably out a cannon.
it totally resets itself almost every time i touch it, there is a static electricity shock when you touch it and it turns itself off and you have to reset everything.

Not bad, But there are better
by smhearty ,Oct 25 '06
Pros: Good sound, very reliable Cons: Display brightness, Loudness of alarm, button tactile feel
I received this as a gift. It does basically work as billed. However, there are a few things the potential buyers/users should note:
- The display is bright (very bright). There is a button to select brightness but even at its lowest setting, it is still way too bright. (I have to cover the display at night to sleep).
- There is no way to adjust the volume of the alarm. Let's say that you pick to wake by the radio. It is loud. Setting the volume at anything other than the mid point is useless as it defaults to that middle point.
- Sound is better good. It is loud and clear enough.
- Buttons are impossible to just "feel". You'll have to look at the unit to know for sure which buttons you are pushing.
I'd recommend checking out the iHome first.

Nice when it worked - Memorex customer service stinks!
by norimakke ,Jun 05 '09
Pros: Sounded great when it worked. Recharged ipod. Cons: Crappy product and horrible, pathetic customer service.
Bought this for my son's birthday. It worked for about two months, and then the buttons on top just froze up and quit working. Memorex at first refused to help me because I had no receipt. How long do you keep receipts for a product that appears to work out of the box?? Then, after I pursued the "no receipt" issue they told me that there was only a 90 day warrantee and the 90 days was now up. Didn't matter that the thing had broken during the 90 days, only that they hadn't resolved it within the 90 days and time was now up. What a crock!
I will never, ever buy Memorex again.

No Memorex presets for radio stations
by richardlion ,Nov 28 '06
Pros: Good sound quality. Cons: No memory presets
If you want to have an iPod clock radio, do not buy this one. It has no memory presets for the digital radio. You have to manually find each station when you switch stations either on AM or FM band. The people at Memorex fell asleep on this one.
