Pros: Thank goodness for mech. to fix this garbage.
Cons: Totally unrealiable. The only thing this is good for is a anchor.
Summary: We purchased this motor last July (2009). We got it in the water and made 3 trips to our cottage. Then the motor would not stay running. After pulling it out and returning it to the sales people 5 times ( a distance of about 90 miles each way ... read more

Pros: Easy to find lower units of other ones with blown powerheads
Cons: Expensive, Power head design flaw, Mercury has no apparent integrity
Summary: I bought one of these new, and now am trying to save you the heartache, 5 figures of hard earned money I paid for this engine and with no warning at all the motor just went. They are well known to do extremely bad in cold water. This ... read more

Pros: very happy with this engine on my 18 1/2 foot Larsen Ski/Fish.
Cons: need a stingray to improve hole shot.
Summary: Have only had one problem with this motor and it was caused by letting my wife load the boat. Didn't raise the motor enough at the sand bar and plugged up the leg. McGoverns Marine compounded the problem by charging me for a repair that they didn't do. ... read more
