Great touring comfortable all around tire by castanra ,Mar 04 '05
Pros: Comfort, handling, wear. Cons: None
I have 42K miles on the tires and they definitely look like they will go all the way to the advertised 65K miles. Some of the reviews here must belong to another tire. How can this tire last only 20K miles? Not the Cross Terrain for sure. I have them on a Lexus RX300 replacing the OE at 20K miles (that is disgusting). Looks to me OE tires are a special/cheap version of the normal tire so that manufacturers save money and buyers are stuck with replacing the tires much sooner than normal. So far the tire has performed flawlessly. The main reason to purchase them was comfortable ride; additionally we are getting good handling, wet and dry traction, and excellent wear. They are absolutely worth every penny. They are also top rated by Tire Rack customers, based on more than 13 million miles experience!
75k Miles and still kicking.... 2003 Acura MDX by geronyc ,Oct 18 '06
Pros: Tread wear and true gripping. Cons: Slight humming, but I'll take it for the price of safety.
...OK, I'm getting ready to change them now, but I have driven on these tires up to 120 MPH at least once a week, and have taken them at high speeds on turns... Excellent in rain up until recently because of the tread... What more can I say except that I TRUST these tires with my family's life. Thank you Michelin for making a great tire!
Terrible Tire for your SUV by yessupman ,Dec 05 '03
Pros: NONE!!! Cons: Poor traction in the rain. Expensive and terrible tread life.
I purchased these tires 2-02 from NTB for my 1999 Toyota 4Runner. In April of this year I took my vehicle back to NTB because of my concern for the early tire wear. I was told that the tires were not going to make it. I had the vehicle aligned and tires rotated twice during this time period. By October of this year the tires were totally shot with less than 20,000 miles on them. NTB took a whopping $55 off of my next set of tires!!! Micheline won't respond to my emails. STAY AWAY FROM THESE TIRES.
Great tires on Astro - 65,000 miles and still have 7/32 tread by billtc ,Jan 31 '05
Pros: Very stable; long life; Good traction on snow and ice. Cons: Pricey, and a little hard riding compared to passenger car tires.
This is the only tire that I will have on a top-heavy vehicle such as my 1997 Chevolet Astro AWC. We live in Northern Michigan and drive in rain, snow, dry pavement, trail roads, etc. I am about to replace them at 65,000 miles, but they still have between 6/32 and 7/32 of tread. ]
I have read the reviews, and nobody mentions much about the superior handling of these tires at high speeds. All of the other tires that I have used on Astro Vans feel like the vehicle is "top heavy" above 65 mph. These tires make me feel safe, even going through the mountains.
Also, they are great on ice and snow, even with 65,000 miles on them, due to the siping. I bought the lifetime rotation and balance, and have them switched around every 6,000 miles.
If you will research the company site at Michelin.com, you will see that you cannot use the "compare" function for these tires with vehicles that are either heavier or lighter. They are designed to wear and function best for a rather narrow spectrum of vehicles. These are really a light truck tire, not a passenger car tire.
I have oem 275-55r18 Michelin Cross Terrains on '03 Toyota Sequoia. Added supercharger, with the extra 100 HP, I just replaced the 2 rear tires at 53,000 miles. I could have gotten another 8k to 10k from these rear tires if I pushed it. I have used only Michelins for the past 20 years with great results. The extra cost up front more than pays for itself over the long term with better traction, treadwear, and durability over other brands. Very glad that Toyota uses them as oem's, otherwise I would have probably had to replace tires at 30k - 40k miles.
Michelin Cross Terrain SUV Tires by mrprism ,Jan 29 '04
Pros: The best of the best for handling, ride comfort, proper wear Cons: The best usually cost the most
Let me start by stating I am a Ford master technician who specializes in chassis repair. Working as a Ford Lincoln Mercury tech during the Firestone Wilderness AT and ATX recall exposed me to many different brands of tires for these SUVs. One of the accepted replacements Ford offered were the Michelin Cross Terrains. From experience I can honestly say NONE of the other replacement tires even came close to the Michelin's in handling, ride quality, and proper wear. (The other replacements were also from well known makers) These tires usually took less than 2 ounces of weight IN TOTAL to balance properly, where as some of the other makes (major name brand players) took more than 4-5 oz. in total weight to balance. The quality of the Michelin tire is second to none. These are the tires on my Mountaineer. Remember, you get what you pay for!
Great tires and worth the money by hothursm ,Jul 01 '07
Pros: comfort and smooth driving, excellent handling and control on the roads. Cons: more expensive but worth the cost.
I replaced the dealer tires for my Ford Escape with Michelin Cross Terrain. Man, what a difference that made. The SUV used to be bumpy and stiff on the roads. No more. Michelin rides are smooth, excellent handling and comfortable ride. I look forward to driving now. I have not driven in wet and snow condition yet. But I heard it is all season and performs well in all weather. Yes, the tires are expensive at $150 a pop, but it is worth it. Don't skimp on your next tire purchase, go for the best and give yourself a comfy ride.
I purchased a set of Michelin X-Terrain SUV (P245-60-R16) for my Ford Escape back in 2003. I'm on the road for a living in Southern New England and I can't describe how impressed I am with this brand of tire. Great ALL WEATHER performance , very low noise level and most importantly and impressively , I got 130,000 miles out of them!!! Almost an unheard of number of miles considering I managed only 32,000 miles wear from the Firestone Wilderness (Junk) tires that came stock with the vehicle.
So impressed was I , that I just purchased a brand new set ! I expect the same unmatched quality , performance , value ($50.00 rebate) and longevity from the new ones.
I put the Cross Terrains on my Escalade at 6500 miles. I now have 48000 miles and the tires still seem to have a full tread! I've owned a lot of SUV's and have had an assortment of tires, but the Cross Terrain is by leaps and bounds, better than any other tire. They're quiet and smooth. They do great in wet pavement as well as in snow. I am now going to put them on my wife's 2004 4Runner. They're worth the extra money.
Pros: The tires "feel" better, in terms of road feel. Cons: Pricey
Just put 4 Cross Terrains on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee. There is a significant difference between the new tires and the factory supplied Wranglers. The Michelins are quieter, a better ride, and "feel" better. We got about 49K miles on the originals, and they had a "rougher" ride.
Very quite, smooth and good traction by samsudin ,Jan 22 '06
Pros: Quite and smooth driving Cons: Expensive
After a long research and reading review, I decided to go for the Michelin® Cross Terrain. Both Costco and Sears were having promotions but decided to go with Sears at $147 plus installation and alignment fees. It was worth the investment, the tire is very quite and very smooth. It bring back the fun of driving my Lexus RX300. Very expensive as compare to other models but you pay for the performance and comfort.
Excellent Tire on 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited by gelandrum ,Sep 14 '06
Pros: Excellent ride, handling, and response. Cons: None.
I just replaced the Cooper Discover A/T on my 2000 Cherokee after they only ran 28,000 miles. The Michelin's ride improvement was even noticed by my wife - who normally can't tell the difference between a junker and a limo. I'm really excited by the Cross Terrains and hope to update this review in a couple of years when I have 30,000 miles on them. Highly recommended.
Pros: Great tire makes my Explorer handle exceptional well. Even wife notices difference. Cons: From what I heard pricey I will be sticking with them
These tires came standard on my new 2003 Ford Explorer and handle great. The ride is so much more comfortable than the Goodyears I had on my previous Explorer. The floating feeling I use to have has turned into great feel and control of the road.
Michelin Cross Terrain SUV truck Tire by caryralls ,Aug 17 '04
Pros: Ultra smooth and quiet ride. Great traction on dry pavement, and wet pavement. Cons: Price. These tires are expensive but you pay for what you get.
Very good tire. Mine just finally wore out on my 2000 F-150 after 75,000 miles of mainly highway driving. These tires ride extremely quiet and smooth almost like you are on a cloud. They cost a fortune ($150 per tire) but I thought they were worth it. Sadly, I am getting Goodyears put on my truck since it is a company vehicle and now we have a national account with Goodyear. Hopefully they will rid ehalf as good as the Michelins but I doubt it because the Goodyears on my Jeep Scrambler were lousy.
Pros: Quiet, good wet and dry traction, good warranty. Cons: None. The quality justifies the extra cost.
My 2001 Suburban was purchased used with about 20,000 miles on the odometer. From the very first drive, I loved the truck and hated the stock Firestone tires. Too much road noise, and I knew (from driving other Suburbans) that it was the tires and not the truck.
Just purchased the Cross Terrain tires at Costco a few weeks ago, and the difference is amazing. They're quieter at all speeds, which was my primary concern. To my surprise, wet traction is also much better. Turning right at the stop sign used to bring a touch of inside-rear wheelspin on rainy days, even with fairly light throttle. Now the truck can scoot around the corner safely without wheelspin or slowing down cross traffic.
But again, my primary concern was getting a top-quality tire with a quieter ride. My wife took the Suburban into Costco for me, and even she noticed how much nicer the truck's ride was with the new tires.
Michelin Cross Terrain P265/70R16 by mjmd ,Dec 07 '03
Pros: Perfect Ride Cons: Cost
I had these tires installed prior to buying a 2003 Tundra. The tires are a little slippery with rain. All tires are slippery without friction. Rotation with every other oil change. Abnormal driving conditions. Kissing curbs and some rough road pothole uneven road crown, and poor bridge transitions. 21,000 miles and wear is on the nose of a Lincoln penny. Very satisfied with all performance of this tire. The truck ride is equal to a luxury vehicle. My Wife is very pleased, and she is a road safety critic.
Great handling, quiet tires for 1999 ML 320 by sfm_home ,Sep 15 '07
Pros: handling, low noise, long wear, have not required adding air Cons: cost, but worth every penny to me
I replaced the stock Dunlops at 35,000 with these Michelins in Oct 2001. They are much superior in handling and road noise. With 40,000 mostly freeway miles in So Cal and Arizona and never having an alignment, I'm just now noticing a little rear wheel wear. I've driven in plenty of dirt near Sedona, but done no true off-roading. I expect another 10,000 from them. They have been excellent in all respects. They exceed the Pirelli Scorpions I used on my 1992 Pathfinder.
Michelin Cross Terrain SUV Tires on an ML320 by horse407 ,Apr 06 '04
Pros: Quiet, comfortable riding tire. Michelin brand name. Cons: Very poor tread life compared to Michelin's promise (warranty). Poor overall value as a result.
Installed on 2000 ML320 (Mercedes-Benz SUV). Good comfortable ride, low noise level, but very poor expected tread life compared to Michelin's 65,000 mile tread-wear warranty. Went to Michelin's because of the promise (Michelin's written promise) of much longer tread life after my 2nd set of Dunlop Grandtrek TG35s, getting 33-35k miles on each set of Dunlops. Best expectation on the Michelins is possibly 40k miles (18% better tread-wear than Dunlop but at 70% higher price - $149 per tire compared to $90 for the Dunlops). And wear on the Michelins is extremely sensitive to alignment on an ML320; two rear tires wore out in about 18k miles even after a 4-wheel alignment.
Pros: Amazingly quiet, smooth, road grip during turns Cons: Cost, but you get what you pay for
When I replaced the OEM General Grabbers on my 2001 Nissan Frontier King Cab with these tires at 50,000 miles I thought I was driving a different truck! Road tire noise practically disappeared, the ride was much smoother, and I could take turns and curves at higher speeds with zero skidding, even on wet roads.
Now, at just over 13,000 miles later, I only wish I had replaced the OEM tires a lot earlier. These Michelins have exceeded my expectations in every category, and they look great, too---the tire has a much rounder side shape, and the "stay black" rubber really does stay black...the General Grabbers very quickly fade into dusty gray even after applying tire shine sprays.
Sure they cost about 50% more than other major brands, but for the extra comfort and safer handling, it's more than worth it. Paid $110 each at NTB, installed.
Pros: Good ride and fair traction Cons: POOR WEAR - ONLY 22K Miles before replacement
Bought the Michelin Cross Terrain Tire for my Expedition. The ride is very good but I was very dissappointed with the wear. It is NOT wear rated correctly. I only got 22K miles before they required replacement. For a $190 tire, this is NOT A GOOD VALUE. My previous Firestones lasted 65K with tread 'left over'.
Within the last year and a half I've had to replace two of these tires. Both from belt separation when they have approximately 1/3 the tread depth left on them. I am meticulous with vehicle maintenance and check the tire pressure often. Last year it was a rear tire and this year it's a front tire. They are installed on a 2000 Expedition with no hard driving. They are nice quiet tires and have decent grip in the winter but the price sure goes up when you have to replace a pair (I'd hate to replace just one tire and have the other side a different diameter due to the wear)that should have lasted longer. I only put about 18,000 km on them per year.
These tires COMPLETELY fell apart form the sidewall on the highway within 500 MILES (YES thats NOT a typo!) of buying the 2004 Lexus GX470 with the tires on it BRAND NEW!! Luckily it was the rear tire and we managed to slow it down after vigorously losing control. Thank god it wasn't the front tire, who knows what would have happened.
If you want to see what it looked like, go here and look for yourself!
Excellent tire, very comfortable, durable, low noise. by manolo_one ,Jun 15 '05
Pros: Comfort, noise. Cons: None
Changed OEM tires over 2 years ago in my Lexus RX300 and installed the Cross Terrains. So far I am extremely happy with them. Over 45K miles on them and on their way to the 60K advertised level.
Pros: Excellent feel, great handling, no noise. Cons: Might be a little pricey but worth it.
These tires have carried my 99' GMC Jimmy 4x4 in 115 degree July heat to Oklahoma and back (San Diego), through the Anza-Borrego sand, rocks and washes, across the wasteland between Bullhead City and Oatman, and now the ice, rain and snow of Utah Mountain roads in February. Never missed a beat or a step, period. Great feel to drive on any surface. 4 wheel drive or 2, they consistantly make the driver feel in control. Am buying same tires next weekend for my Jeep Cherokee. Oh yeah!
These tires came standard on my 2001 Acura MDX. Great ride, normal handling. The vehicle just turned over 40,000 miles and the tires need to be replaced already (this with religious rotations and pressure checks). Agree with other posters: Michelin needs to re-evaluate the wear rating. No way these last for 65,000. A good tire while it lasts, but that good ride is pricey.
Rough & No Wet Traction Ford Ranger by lizabet1 ,Oct 07 '03
Pros: None! Cons: Rough Riding; No Traction wet pavement
These tires were terrible on my 2000 Ford Ranger ext cab truck! I purchased them at Sears for 120.00 per tire + tax. They were very rough riding and had almost no traction on wet pavement. After a long phone call to Sears, they replaced all 4 with Michelin XC LT4 - they are great, so much better than the Cross Terrains. The Cross Terrains may be ok for heavier vehicles but not for me and my Ranger!"
Michelin X Terrain Tires, Dissappointed in mileage by paulmckee ,Apr 27 '05
Pros: Quiet, smooth highway ride, predictable, and good handling in all weather. Cons: Very disappointed in overall mileage.
Replaced the OEM Uniroyal Laredo's with a set of X Terrains on my '01 Bravada AWD. Rides is slightly stiffer then the Uniroyals but overall an exceptionally smooth highway tire. Reasonably secure handling in rain and light snow (Upstate SC) and good for light-moderate off road situations (red clay logging roads and steep, slick boat ramps). My driving style is moderate, 70/30 highway/city. Maintained air pressure @35psi with reg. 6-7K rotation, but at 35K I only have 4/32 tread left. Sadly, no were near the 65K warranty. These were pricey tires to only last 35K. I was very surprised as I prev. experienced 80-90K on two sets of Mich. LTX M&S. These are def. NOT the same tires as the LTX.
Pros: Extremely Smooth and Quite Ride Cons: Not an Agressive Snow Tire
About a year ago I read reviews on the Michelin Cross Terrain tires here on epinions. I want to thank others for giving their honest opinions, and because of that I purchased the tires. My first good feeling about my purchase was when the service manager looked over at the tires and said who ordered the Cross Terrain tires, I walked up and he said to me in a quite voice, you dog, these are great tires.
After having driven them for almost a year in Minnesota where their are four seasons, and after having several different sets of tires on two different trucks, I will have to say these are the Best driving tires I've owned. They are extremely smooth and quite which I love, they handle well on dry and wet pavement, ( blacktop and concrete), and do OK in the snow. I do not think that they are expensive considering the fact in which they handle my 35,000.00 vehicle and my families lives. Because they handle the road so well they probably save me repair expenses.
Pros: Quality and endurance Cons: Pricey...but worth it!
Finally replaced our original set of tires on our Oldsmobile Bravada today. The odometer read 89,801 so our choice was an easy one...replace with the same tires that were on the car when we bought it from the dealer - Michelin Cross Terrains. They're the best!
We got these tires on our 2007 Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 and after 25K miles the rear tires went COMPLETELY BALD, Michelin could care less and we had to buy two new tires for our leased vehicles. ($190 per tire) well here we are 37K miles and the other two tires are bald and our tires we previously bought with only 12K miles on them are going bald. I am sooooo frustrated. My truck cannot be safely driven so its sits in my driveway. Thats BS. Michelin could care less, they will only maybe cover half of the cost for new tires. I shouldnt have to pay for anything, I feel I have already had to pay. Do your research before buying these tires, there are many others like me with the same problems with the Cross Terrains. Rip Offs!!!!!!
X terrain SUV tires have a short life by robertsk ,Oct 08 '07

I loved the look, feel and handling of these tires on my Grand Cherokee, however I only got 23K and the tires are now worn out. Vehicle was city driven by my wife on pavement. Very disappointed as they were very expensive tires.
