Pros: excellent in the rain; moderately low road noise; smooth ride Cons: relatively expensive
My 1998 Toyota pick-up truck came with Dunlop Radial Rovers, so that's what I stuck with the first time I needed new tires. I upped the size from 225-75-15 to 235-75-15, and was happy for the next 80,000 miles. Recently, I decided to re-tire again, ...
Pros: Top notch traction and quiet ride. Cons: Pricey but worth it.
The Michelin LTX M/S radial Truck and SUV tire is one of the best on the market for doing what it was intended to do, possibly the best. When you are researching tires to replace your less than adequate factory installed ones, or your presently...
Pros: The Michelins outlasted other tires. They do well at highway speeds with heavy loads. Cons: The tires have outlasted my Tacoma. I'm about to purchase a new 2005 model.
I have a 2000 extra cab Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 with a 190 hp V-6, which I bought new. The rear axle is equipped with a factory electronic locker and gear ratio is 3.91:1. The only power upgrades were dual exhaust and a K&N air filter. This pick-up ...
Pros:Smooth handling, nice, quiet ride, performs exceedingly well in wet conditions by all accounts. Cons: None that I have encountered, but will update! Still none as of 11/26/09.
I took my 2000 Ford Expedition in for new tires and had the mindset of replacing them with the same Goodyear Wranglers that were on this urban assault vehicle/land yacht at the time. The salesman talked me into the Michelin LTX/MS P255/70 R16's and I am ...
Pros: Extreme treadlife, great all-around use and traction Cons: not a one
These were the tires that came with my 1994 Toyota pickup. I never really gave them much thought, other than that they looked nice with the raised-white-letters. Its probably a compliment to say you never notice your tires. I do almost all of my ...
Pros: quiet ride, good grip, very smooth, attractive Cons: treadwear is only average. Not for serious off-road use.
These tires came as a distributor-installed option on my 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup. Packaged with alloy wheels, they really improve the appearance of the vehicle vs. the standard 245/70-16 blackwall tires. They're just a good-looking tire.
Pros: Good tread life, quiet, fine handling, Michelin quality Cons: None
I buy exclusively Michelin tires. I've got them on our passenger car and on our Jeep Grand Cherokee has these LTX M/S tires. They have a solid reputation, good tread life and have served friends and our family very well.
Pros: Smooth, quite ride with outstanding handling and performance in wet or dry conditions. Cons: Pick up rocks and small road debris in the tread.
I have a 2003 Ford F150 SuperCrew which came with Goodyear Wrangler AT/S LT265 70R17 tires on it (SEE REVIEW: The worst tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them.) I did not buy the Michelins to replace the Goodyears ... they were put on ...
Pros: Good snow traction. Tires quite round/smooth ride. Cons: Moderate wet traction. Tendency to pick up and throw stones. Noise depends on road surface.
After trying to safely navigate the snow covered roads in Wisconsin and Minnesota in the winter, I was determined to find a better snow tire, but one that will work for all seasons as well.
I don't take my Dakota 4x4 off roading (at least...
Pros: Long life, quiet, decent in mud, hold heavy loads Cons: pricey, but worth every penny
My immediate family and I have owned 8 sets of Michelin LTX M/S's put on everything from Ford Explorers to a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. On every vehicle, they wear very good and very long. The first set I bought on New Years Eve 1995 were 31x10.5x15's ...
Pros: Long tread life, wet traction, quiet ride Cons: None found
Update #2! I sold that truck, got another one, and put on a set of new Michelins. Another amazing performance, I have 55,000 miles on this set and have at least 8/16" of tread remaining. They still look great and continue to provide a ...
So my 1998 Jeep Cherokee came with Goodyear Wrangler A/T's on it. After I had it about a week I almost smacked into a wall the first time I drove it in the rain. For 60,000 miles I feared the rain.
Pros: The best light truck for mileage as well as ride and comfort. Cons: Moderate rain and snow traction.
The LTX M/S is the best mileage tire built in the light truck sizes. If the weather permits you to wear them down to the last 2/32nds with proper maintenance you can see over a 100,000 miles. I have seen many sets do so including a full size Tahoe...
Michelin is an incredible tire manufacturer. From their commercials we hear about "so much that is riding on your tires." Nothing could be truer. I had an small accident a few weeks ago thought that the damage was minimal. It happened on a...
Pros: great durability, milage and handling Cons: none
I have to admit that I have been buying Michelin tires on every vehicle I have owned for the last 20 some years except for a momentary slip in judgement when I bought Goodyear tires (Wrangler if I remember right) for my "78" Bronco. After one...
Pros: Quiet on highway Cons: I keep blowing the sidewalls
Michelin is renowned for their tread life and how even the tread wears. Proven on many sports cars in many races, Michelin has made quite a name for themselves.
I don't believe that Michelin has ever actually tested their tires in an off-road...
Pros: Amazing Life and performance with regular rotation. Best bang for your buck! Cons: Some road noise, but not bad at all.
I bought a Mazda Tribute SUV 2 years ago, around the same time of the infamous Firestone defective tire scandal. Well, this SUV came standard with Firestones, so I told the dealer to replace the tires before I bought the SUV with Michelins just by their...
I have used this tire several times. I have bought 2 sets of LT235/75R15C, and one set of LT235/85R16E. I kept the 16's the longest. I have documented over 90,000 miles on that one set of tires. I bought them at NTW (now NTB) and bought their...
Pros: Excellent wet and dry weather handling improves ride over OEM tires, increased mileage. Cons: They do roar a bit.
The Michelin LT24575R16's replaced OEM tires of the same size. The vehicle that now wears them is a 2001 Chevrolet 2500HD LT Model regular cab with a Duramax diesel.
If you got a truck with a lot of power, and are starting to fish tail in wet...
Pros: Great tread life, good traction, Cons: Somewhat expensive
These tires came as OE on a 1998 3/4 ton Dodge Ram 2500. After 53,000 miles they are now beginning to show wear and will need to be replaced in 5,000 miles or so. They were used mostly for highway driving, often towing a heavy trailer. I found they...
Pros: handling AND tread wear Cons: none, zippo, nada
Superb tire, i believe it re 100K miles, these came O/E on my 98 Mazda MPV 4WD van, we put 54K miles on in 2.5 years, tires started with 13/32 tread depth (measured recently from the unused spare) and are now at 6/32, which means 4/32 usable tread left...
Pros: Balance well, very smooth, long tread life Cons: price, more noisy at end of life
I have had quite a few tires on all the vehicles I have owned over the years, but the Michelin LTX M/S have to be the best value in tires you can install for mainly belle weather highway driving. At first I purchased these at Costco after doing ...
Pros: Reliable, smooth, quiet, great grip, great wear resistance, peace of mind. Cons: Price.
Okay, I have a Jeep Wrangler '01, not the smoothest riding vehicle in the world to begin with, but much nicer now with my Michelins on. Came from the factory with Goodyear Wranglers on it, and they were functional. Never had a flat, and didn't beat ...
Pros: Great ride on the highway and guaranteed traction when 4WD is needed. Cons: I never found a con with them.
The only reason I am thinking about replacing them is that the right rear wear bars are starting to show. I know I should have taken better care of them but I never had to give them a second thought. With my son playing AAA hockey we have put many...
Pros: Great ride and performance. Cons: Maybe a little pricey, but worth it.
I replaced my P235/75/15 Firestone Wilderness ATs on my Ford Explorer with this tire. (I actually got the Michelin XC LT4 from NTB which is the same tire but with a private brand designation. Same M+S specs with the 105S rating.)
BEST TIRES I HAVE EVER HAD by steveblack70 ,Oct 30 '09
Pros: excellent wear, life longevity and at a fair valued price Cons: wish they would last forever, but thats why the make more
I drive a 1998 ford f150 with about 300k on the odometer. Most of my driving is on the highway . I currently have about 125k on this set of michelin ltx m/s tires. The only reason i need to replace them is because there are small surface cracks between the tread, however there apprears to be plenty of good tread life left. I wouldn't be afraid to go on a small trip with them even at the current mileage. Winter is comming and i dont want to take any chances. These are absoultly the best tires i have ever owned without a doubt ! in the 300k miles on my truck i have replaced the tires 3 times and this will be the 4th time. The first few sets were not michelin tires and didn't last quite as long. If you are looking for a tire that holds up to any use i recommend the michelin ltx m/s tire
Pros: Excellent handling, stability, and ride. Cons: More expensive than the alternatives, but not enough to affect the choice.
I just bought a set yesterday for my Dakota 2WD, and I already see major improvement in handling and stability over the Bridgestones they replaced. The truck feels more "solid" on the highway, and the steering is more responsive. The ride is significantly better at highway speed; small defects in the pavement aren't noticed at all like with the old tires. I'm really glad I paid a bit extra for the Michelins; they're worth it.
These Michelin LTX M/S tires came on my 2000 Toyota 4runner. I have them rotated per the Toyota maintenence schedule. They currently have 137,000 miles and don't show much wear. They usually make some road noise and the Toyota dealer said there was some cupping, but after being rotated they are quiet again. My driving is 90% highway 60 - 75 mph. I will definately replace these tires with exactly the same kind...if they ever wear out.
Gone from great to mediocre by qhryder ,Sep 13 '09
Pros: Quiet, Great handing on dry roads. Comfortable ride even in a F250. Cons: Not the great "mud" tires I'd hoped for. Lots of slipping for me.
I have been using Michilen LTX M/S tires for 10 years. Have truely appreciated the quiet ride and clear road handling capabilities of these tires. Currently drive a F250, 2WD, Super Duty Diesel and haul a 3 horse trialer several times a year. This current set of LTX 235/85R16E have been on my truck since March 2008, and have less that 22K miles on them and will need to be replaced before years end.
Great tires but I'm getting concerned that Michelin is now using a softer compound. I will try probably try one more set. Should I get the same milage results from them as I have from these or I get the run around on the replacement costs on these tires that lasted less than half of their rated life, I'll be looking for a new tire.
Great on-road, bad off-road by allen8633 ,Jun 01 '04
Pros: Great on dry/wet roads Cons: Horrible in the dirt and mud.
These Tires are wonderful on-road tires. Good in the rain. O.k. in the snow. Good tire wear. I have had these tires on for 20,000 miles with very little wear noticeable (I have many on and off road miles)
I will not buy these again because I do off-road a lot. I would buy these again if I was only to use these tires on the paved roads.
Pros: Quiet, long lasting, comfortable, traction Cons: Not an off road tire for mud or snow, expensive
These tires are possibly the best I have ever owned. We are at 43,000 miles now and they will easily get another thousand miles or more it looks like. After 400,000 miles of driving pickups with many different tire brands it is not too difficult to say that overall these are the ones to get! No they are not the longest wearing tires I have had. That honor went to some Cooper tires (56,000 miles). However the Cooper tires slid like roller skates in emergency situations! These Michelins tires are quiet, long lasting, good dry traction, amazing ice traction (the best of any tire I have had), and have an excellant ride.
I'm about to buy some more Michelin M/S's for my truck. The last set I bought lasted me for 90,000 miles. I only rotated my tires one time during the last 3 years, although my front tires are a bit more slightly worn than my back tires.
Pros: Long Wear, handling, traction, handling, comfort matched to these SUVs. Cons: None
We have these tires on 2 vehicles. Our Lexus RX300 has over 40,000 miles on its LTX M/S tires. Our Highlander has about 20,000 miles so far on its LTX M/S. These tires are ideally suited to these vehicles. They have been great in rain and dry, excellent combination of handling, comfort and noise, even on vehicles with a relatively high center of gravity. When these finally do wear out, we hope the identical tires are still available, because we really do not want any other tire. These tires were on both vehicles when we bought them.
Michelin LTX LT245/75R-16/E ORBL by epatrick ,Aug 29 '04
Pros: Agressive tread design, but not terribly noisy on the highway at high speed (75/85MPH). Cons: A little bit slippery on wet pavement. Not terrible.
August 29,2004. I bought a set of these new in April, 2001, at Costco in Kansas City, for my 1995 Tahoe 4X4. The tires have been phenomenal. I have had three punctures that have been plugged. They have been on Interstate highways with and without trailers, all over the country. They have been off-road throughout the southwest and the Ozarks with and without trailers. I now have 109,000 miles on these tires. I run them with 70#'s psi and have them rotated/balance about every 5,000 miles. Still good to go, although I am about 30/60 days from replacement. No doubt what I will be buying.
2003 Tundra,
After much research and reading, I narrowed my tire needs to three tires the Michelin LTX-M/S, Cross Terrain, and Bridgestone Dueler Revo. I finally went with the LTX-M/S. Duelers were too aggressive for Atlanta Driving, and the price was a big factor against the Cross Terrains and I didn't like the closed outermost tread design of the Cross Terrains, also I don't believe that the cross terrain can go 65K. I was only able to get 18k miles out of the OEM Dunlops, so a lot of research went into replacing them I wanted a great long lasting tire. So I talked to people read reviews. I ended up purchasing the LTX @ discount tires. So far so good with the LTXs, they are louder than the tires they replaced (Dunlop AT-21s), but I can take the noise. They also ride and track well.
I lived in a Goodyear town, it was hard not to ride on Goodyear's as they provided a lot of good jobs in town. I bought a new truck in 2003 and was disappointed to see the stock tires were Michelin's. I left them on (and moved) and they have outperformed any set of Goodyear's I've had and I've had several. I do have on one tire with some sidewall issues that have popped up in the last 1000 miles or so, so I'm looking to replace these with new ones just like them. I'd rather buy American, i think Michelin's are French, but the Michelin's seem to be better.
Pros: Long lastin- great traction in rain and snow (of course having a JEEP helps) Cons: I think they are a little loud.
These babies have lasted me more than 118k on my 2000 GGC Laredo!!! Awesome- definitely have gotten my moneys worth! Not too picky- I think they have been a little loud- but my music is cranked up most of the time when I am driving so it does not matter! Best tire on the market! I'm only replacing them now bc one of them sprung a slow leak and I figure they have done the job!
Pros: Good tread, quiet ride. Cons: They fall apart.
Had a set of these on my Astro van. At about 35K miles, the sidewalls developed cracks. The tire store inspected them and determined they were defective. They called Michelin and, in the end, after jacking the warranty price to RETAIL, charging me for installation and taxes at full retail, even with the "pro-rated" warranty, I had to PAY a rediculous amount of money to replace the DEFECTIVE tires.
Two years later, the same tires are doing the same freakin' thing. The sidewalls are cracked and splitting and the rubber is flaking away. As a further note, I take EXTREMELY good care of my tires, keep them Nitro inflated, clean, and they NEVER touch the curb.
Very disappointed. I'm sure I'm gonna get railroaded into replacing them again.
Pros: PROMISED long tire life on a heavy 3/4 4x4 truck, smooth ride, PROMISED traction Cons: Expensive, possible traction issue
After getting a mere 24,000 miles on a set of Goodyear 60,000 mile M&S truck tires, Discount Tire agreed to upgrade me to a set of new Michelins (+$400) under the warranty. I was sorry to see the Goodyear's go since their aggressive tread has done an exceptional job in several Colorado snow storms. Discount would not rotate the Goodyears for me since they said they were worn out.
These tires are mounted on a 1997 Ford F-250 Supercab Heavyduty with the 7.3L Powerstroke. The truck is equipped with a large steel ladder rack and a couple hundred pounds of remodeling tools. It's a heavy truck.
On the way home, the first thing I noticed was the ride quality. The Michelins are much smoother.
Since we haven't had much snow in Denver this winter, the traction issue remains to be seen. Discount Tire says that I shouldn't notice a difference. We'll see.
The big test will be how long these tires last on this truck. I can't afford a new set of tires every 24,000 miles.
I'll keep you updated. I now have 2,500 miles on this set, and rotate tires every 5,000 miles.
Snowy mountain roads, no problem! by medic4u ,Oct 26 '04
Pros: Durable, quiet, grips to snow covered roads wonderfully. Cons: Blew one sidewall due to defect.
I have Michelins LTX M/S on my Pathfinder. This is the second set of these tires and I will not buy anything else ever again. Driving on dry pavement or on snow covered, icy roads is no problem. This tire is quiet, durable and grips like no other all season tire. I have 200,000Km on my Pathfinder and on my second set of LTX's. The vehicle came with General tires that I got rid of after 30,000Km because they were junk and separated. For me, there is no reason to try any other tire out there. I do not drive off road.
Michelin LTX-good and heavy by vince23 ,Nov 29 '04
Pros: Quiet, smooth, responsive ride, and I know they will wear like iron with little attention Cons: they felt clunky for the first few weeks, compared to the o.e. Goodyear Integrity
I first experienced the LTX tires on my '98 Mazda MPV AWD. After 65,000 miles they showed very little treadwear, but the sidewalls showed much cracking, which made me nervous, so I replaced them with another brand from Sam's Club. I should have stayed with Michelins. I recently researched replacement tires for my Lexus RX. I knew that weight is a very important factor in acceleration, braking, and steering feel, but certainly not the major factor for a "non-racer". The original equipment tires were lightly treaded relative to the LTX's, and I felt Lexus used them for a good reason, so I was reluctant to change. But Michigan winters are no place for wimpy tires, my experience with these tires in the snow is excellent
Pros: Quiet smooth ride on any road surface. Cons: Pricey
Best tire on the market for 4 Wheel Drive SUV's. I had my doubt before I bought them, due to the non agressive tread pattern. I bought a full set of them last fall and they got me through the Michigan Winter. I can really get great traction in snow from a dead stop to full throttle in just a few seconds, and that's with a V-8.
Not much to say other than these tires are the best. I hemmed and hawed for a couple of months over which tires to buy for my '96 Explorer. The price of these Michelins, of course, was a big reason for dragging my feet. But when you consider the importance of tires and all they stand for in your daily drive's comfort and safety, price shouldn't even be a question. The original 'Courser' tires didn't seem all that bad because I didn't know any better. Now that I have these Michelins, I actually enjoy driving the truck again. It's truly like having a new ride. I've had the 'new tires' experience before and realize that anything newer is going to be better than old, but this time it's truly different. Seriously, just buy them already! You won't be disappointed. I got mine at Costco.
Pros: You get your money's worth. Cons: None that I know of.
Own an Infinity QX4. I have put over 75K miles on these tires. They have life left in them. What a tire! Great traction in the snow and ice. Their pricey, but they seem to last forever.
Michelin LTX M/S- Buy these tires!! by aamittle ,Apr 02 '05
Pros: Smooth, quiet ride. Great handling. Cons: A little pricey.
All I can say is "WOW"! I had no idea what a difference tires make to the overall driving experience. I have a 2000 Expedition and needed to replace my aging Goodyear tires. I can't tell you how impressed I was immediately after having the Michelins installed. The SUV handles much better, the ride is very smooth, quiet and solid. Gone are the squeals when I corner and the wiggly front end when I go above 65mph. Driving this SUV was becoming a chore and now it's a pleasure. Buy these tires- you won't be dissapointed.
Note two different LTX M/S Tires: The "H" model and the "S" !!! by davidhighland ,Aug 03 '06
Pros: The "H" gives a great ride and handling on a Land Cruiser type vehicle. Cons: The "H" wears more quickly than other tires. Not terribly, but noticeably.
Hard to believe, but true. Tires appear to be identical, but are not. When you order a Michelin LTX M/S tire, they make two different ones, under the same model number, that look alike! The H is a softer ride, with softer rubber, and, in theory, doesn't wear as long. The S is a stiffer ride, with harder rubber, and may last longer.
The "H" is OEM for Land Cruisers and Lexus LX 450, etc. (Check carefully for your vehicle, and watch for this next level of differentiation; i.e., the difference between the H and the S model). The speed rating for the H is higher; and many believe best not to lower a speed rating from OEM if you can avoid it. Speed rating for H is 130mph; rating for S is 112 or 114.
This data should prove useful to anyone looking to buy these Michelins.
Michelin LTX M/S Truck/SUV Tire: Awesome by marcellj ,Feb 15 '07
Pros: These tires are extra sticky on ice and snow! Cons: Expensive. Be sure to check the alignment and balance twice a year at a minimum.
I've got two Ford Expeditions to maintain here in Colorado and living south of Denver has been a paradise for snow and ice lately. We're into the 48th day of it. I wont go into a long essay on this, but suffice it to say that the other reviews on these tires are right on target. In my case, I was looking for tires that would tackle the ice and snow.
I live up on a hill, so driving up and down it can be a terror at times, especially when you lose traction. This road isn't always plowed, sanded, or sprayed with de-icers, although it is a school bus route. The slope angle of the hill varies between 10-13 degrees, so it can be an added challenge.
Adding these Michelin LTX M/S tires to our Expeditions has totally solved my problems with traction on ice and snow. If you are looking for tires with extra grip, these are an excellent choice (although more expensive).
Pros: Tread Life is amazing
Good wet Traction
Quiet
Stable ride confident ride Cons: More pricey than any other tire. Well worth it
Just got a new set on my 2001 Tacoma. 265/70/r16. They were original equipment. I got 80,000 miles out of them over 5.5 years. The last 20,000 mile I stupidly did not rotate them and had a situation where i still had decent tread in the back but not much up front, so I decided to replace all of them together. If I had rotated them I probably would have gotten another 7-10,000 miles out of them. I use the tires off road for work and I tow a boat in Florida, they work great on slippery boat ramps, and ride very well. Best tire I have ever come across. Didnt think about replacing them with anything else. Dont know if it is the truck or the tires but I have never needed an alignment.
Pros: Super mileage, quiet, good traction in all situations, dependable and worry free. Cons: A little pricey, but, are they really?
I have a 1999 LX470 Lexus SUV with 261,645 miles on it, and this set of Michelin LTX M/S Truck/SUV Tire has been on it since 151,041 miles, or 110,605 miles, and it still has fair tread, even the rain grooves are still effective, though not as much of course. I've been driving 55 years and owned many vehicles, but this is by far the most miles I ever got out of a set of tires. This is a full time four wheel drive heavy vehicle, and I drive it really hard sometimes. I couldn't ask for a better or more trouble free tire.
No problems - love this tire! I would definitely buy them again in a second! by victoriantea ,Jun 13 '08
Pros: Excellent Michelin Tires - no surprises on wet & windy roads Cons: None that I can think of
Michelin tires have never failed me and I've owned cars for 20 years. My latest is a SUV that I put the Michelin LTX M/S tire on. It handles awesome on windy, mountain roads and I never go off road. They are perfect in the rain (which we get a lot of on the "wet" coast and I can't tell it's raining when I'm driving. Haven't had snow yet with these new tires but don't foresee any problems with the amounts of snow we get around here. I'd buy them again in a second!
