Pros: maintenance, fix problem by itself, easy to care Cons: media problems (printing size, fax, video download, play software).
Not what I expected at all unfortunately. (disappointed). I was not going to buy new PC with this Windows Vista Home premium edition, but unexpectedly I broke my laptop with Windows XP 5 months ago, so had to go to the store to buy new PC, and most new ...

Pros: Increased sales of Windows XP, Vista friendly in 18 months Cons: Hardware and software incompatibilities, huge demands on hardware, can cause major aggravation
Vista over all is a slick operating system. If you have used Apple's Mac OS X then you'll know what Vista feels likes. The catch is that is has more hardware and software incompatibilities than LINUX and MAC os X put together. Most, (not all) people ...

Pros: It's pretty Cons: Resource-hog, bloated, nag messages, not easy for most users
Remember when Windows ME came out? It was like all the worst parts of Windows 98 SE and Windows 2000 combined, and then came XP? Well, Vista isn't exactly like that but it's another stumbling block on the way to a better Windows OS. System ...

Pros: Incorporated more user friendly options, and a real easy 'Restore'. Cons: Microsoft has same solution to problems....reformat! May have to buy new printer, etc.
As with any product, an individual’s satisfaction is based on the purpose for buying that product in the first place. We bought the Vista operating system with a new computer in August of 2008, when Microsoft said they were NOT going to ...

Pros: Easy to use, is visually appealing, and has a mind of its own. Cons: When I find one, I'll let you know.
The only regret I have about upgrading to Windows Vista Home Premium is that I waited so long to do so. While shopping for a new laptop to use for both business and pleasure, I was hesitant to purchase one with a new operating system. I've been ...

Pros: Looks good, does its job, easy to use. Cons: Some annoying messages, learning curve.
Windows Vista is the newest operating system from Microsoft available to consumers, Home Premium is one of the entry level versions and is what many of the prebuilt consumer computers are coming with. Although I have heard many negatives about this ...

Pros: None Cons: The worst software experience possible.
I liked Vista for the first week of use, by the second week of use I thought it was no better than XP, by the third or fourth week ME was starting to look good by comparison, now, after six weeks, the number of problems I'm having with Vista makes ...

Pros: Improved security Cons: Daily network disconnections, forgets settings, resource hog, stops supporting microsoft stuff, aero, indexer, file search
Hearing all the horror stories from friends, I had avoided the Vista pain until hired at a new job and needed a second pc immediately. Since Microsoft had scraped XP from all local store shelves, I had no other choice and got a Lenovo laptop with Vista ...

Pros: Great UI
Built in Search
RAM allocation
DX10 Cons: DRM built into OS
Some lack of driver support
THE SOFTWARE Vista has gotten a very bad rap from the general public. The biggest problem is that they think that a brand new OS should be able to run on very old hardware. In order for technology to move forward the system requirements must also go ...

Bring it On!
by vemartin - Top 50,May 22 '07
Pros: Great interface; rich security model Cons: Large hardware mountain to climb.
After much ado, pomp and circumstance, Microsofts newest Operating System (OS) Vista is out on the street, as well as store shelves and shipping on a PC near you. Not content to release just one or two versions of the OS, Microsoft has built no less than (6) editions of the Vista with same underlying look and feel, but endowed with different functionality. Which version is right for you? Well if you are a home user, Vista Home Premium should fit your needs rather well.
I recently bought two new PCs; both shipped with Vista Home Premium installed. While you cannot join a Windows 2000/2003 domain with the OS, you can certainly surf the web and share resources like files, and printers. And the Aero OS is rich in colors, features, and a rich security model that has been made sport of by Apple, but is a great improvement over Windows XP.
Over all, I am a big fan of Vista Home Premium and would recommend it over Home Basic.

VISTA: LITERALLY A STEP BACKWARDS
by dbrehan ,Aug 02 '07
Pros: Not enough to deal with all the headaches. Cons: Majority of software will be incompatible...unless you just went on shopping spree.
I am not one of those Micrsoft haters, or Apple lovers (please, I have had as many issues with iTunes,) but I will say Vista is a royal pain in the rear. One of the major issues is compatibility with hardware and software. What a nightmare. Vista even has compatibility issues with other Microsoft products, now that is poor product planning and R/D.
If you have an existing computer, do not, repeat, do not upgrade to Vista. Live with XP for as long as you can. And if you can upgrade the hardware of your current machine, do that so you can stick with it.
In addition to the compatibility issues, I had a bad RAM DIMM (thank you HP) and got 'Blue Screen' after 'Blue Screen'...or an out-of-the-blue restart. Never saw the blue screen with XP. HUH!?!?

A bad choice
by sampler54321 ,Feb 18 '07
Pros: Nice look. Cons: Not worth the extra expense for new compatible programs.
Don't waste your money on this. I bought a new computer with this already installed and all of the programs I had and tried to install on it give me a "Known compatibility problems" error messages. Some of them will still load but some won't even load. Most of these programs were less than a year old. If you want to spend the rest of your bank account on buying new programs that will work be my guest otherwise forget Vista. Vista must be short for (Visit a) store and buy New compatible programs.

vista is Wow
by reubendantes ,Mar 03 '08
Pros: New Exciting Look and Feel Cons: Long Time to Star
I've been using Vista for almost a year now. (from last May) and I'd rate my overall experience as a very exciting one.
Vista has so much new to offer, and they are absolutely justified using the term "Wow" during the initial promotional stage.
Vista has so many new features, so much to new to learn. It makes daily computing so much more livelier, you always feel not to shut down your computer, Vista is simply wonderful.
The only drawback I'd say is that it takes a long time to start, and if you interrupt this process, your hanged forever!

Stay away from this OS
by johnmark76 ,Mar 25 '08
Pros: There are no pros - use XP or buy a Mac or install ubuntu linux Cons: 15 words (max) is not enough for this field concerning visa.
Microsoft made a huge mistake releasing this software. It's extremely unstable. Lots of bugs - just today while trying to switch to "classic view" - the entire system crashed and is not restarting.
Shame on you Microsoft for releasing such a terrible product.

It's a Good, System, Not Great.
by b-lalo ,May 06 '09
Pros: Vivid HQ Graphics. No Freeze Ups unlike XP. Cons: I can't think of any, really.
I know a lot of people harp on and rip Windows Vista. I've been using Vista on 2 of my 3 computers (my old desktop still has XP).
Honestly, I've never had a problem with Vista. I used to have a lot of freeze ups with XP so it's refreshing to see a system that doesn't lock up.
I'm just an average end user: I use basic programs like Word, Excel etc. I've changed out Internet Explorer 7 in favor of Mozilla, and I use QuickTime instead of Windows Media Player. These are the only changes that I've made. I personally feel that IE7 & Media Player are mediocre programs.
My point is that it's a good (not great) system for an average Joe or Jane who is just a basic end user.
