Ingenious magicjack still has a few kinks

by pros-n-cons , Mar 29 '08
Pros: It works.
Cons: Intermittent "black-outs" in which neither party can hear the other.
PACKAGE: The magicjack package arrived in the mail in cleverly designed, low-cost packaging - about the size of a paperback book (but much lighter). It included the magicjack, a USB extension cord, & the instructions. PRODUCT APPEARANCE: Cute. ...

MagicJack USB VoIP Interface : The Traveller's Friend

by womey , Mar 13 '09
Pros: Inexpensive innovative technology that gives great value for price
Cons: Ads on the softphone and in some of the web configuration pages
I found myself in a dilemna. I couldn't afford landline service and cellphone service totalling $700/year so five years ago I dumped the landline and had to make do with a spotty-at-best cellphone. I thought that was the end of the story until recently ...

MagicJack User Experiences

by kcowan , May 26 '08
Pros: Cheapest long distance service, high voice quality, anywhere there is a direct-connected PC, inbound number
Cons: No telephone support, non-standard install, limited area codes, some complexity calling outside US
Initial Impressions: Got my MagicJack (MJ) yesterday. After a short download and a long registration process (reading the gotchas in their contract), they assigned me a number (US only) within 2 minutes and I was making LD calls. Very good voice ...

Magic Jack Telephone Service Is Very Good

by toozigoot , Feb 18 '09
Pros: Works well.
Easy to carry.
Great sound.
Very inexpensive.
Loaded with features.
Cons: Minor missed numbers.
Warranty is one month.
No phone support.
Computer always on.
I picked up my Magic Jack in a local electronics store just in case I needed to return it. Well, I am happy to say that the little Gizmo works pretty darn good. The working part of the unit is a small USB device that plugs in to a USB port. ...

Microsoft magicjack

by ib2old , Apr 16 '08
Pros: It does work and the cord is nice to have.
Cons: cutting in/out of some calls and customer service. Needs phone number to call them.
The magic Jack seemed to work just fine for the first 3 calls I made then started to cut out. Hopefully the upgrades will fix this problem. After leaving it plugged in for an hour it seemed to feel warm. Maybe due to the led lites inside. Possibly that's ...

Okay product with a few kinks

by demetal3 , Jul 21 '08
Pros: works
Cons: frequent blackouts
The biggest problem with using it as an only phone is that you may not be able to get a local telephone number assigned to it which would mean that persons who call you now as a local call would have to pay long distance fees to call you. We just got ...

Works Great on DSL, Not as Good on Wireless

by jabsfreelance , Apr 17 '08
Pros: Great Idea, Excellent Price, and Great Quality Sound; Easy to Set Up and Use
Cons: Live online and e-mail support, no phone support, lower-quality on wireless than DSL or Cable
Hello, my name is Julie from J.A.B.'s Freelance World. I bought the MajicJack in order to save money on my phone bill. I intent to use it for all my business and personal calls. I am in the free trial stage and am contemplating keeping the item. I ...

Voice Quality Poor

by pinballs , May 15 '08
Pros: The receiving party does not need to sign up.
Cons: Numerous restrictions and poor voice quality.
I purchased a MagicJack. Contrary to some user experiences that I had read, it is not compatible with Windows 2000, as the company confirmed, even though almost anything that works with XP works with 2000 (NT 5.1 vs. NT 5.0). Attached to another ...

Buyer beware!

by katura , May 08 '08
Pros: Nothing to recommend except plug and play feature. It was fairly easy to get started.
Cons: Can't carry on a conversation due to cutting in and out. Totally trashed my system.
I tried the MagicJack on my branded system, which is about a year old. The sound was horrible - lots of cutting in and out, even with high-speed cable. I was told by MagicJack technician to use a different phone (I have wireless phones). We tried ...

not for everyone, sent mine back

by royalone , May 14 '08
Pros: Can save you money if you have a lot of patience.
Cons: Call quality, unstoppable voice mail, interruptions when a call is placed or received.
Well the thing actually worked....but not well. It took about an hour of messing with it to get it to work....it kept freezing up during the registration process. Overall I have spend 4 or 5 hours with additional downloads, restarts, trying different ...

Worst service ever
by pcskibum ,Jun 10 '08
Pros: Cheap but you get what you pay for.
Cons: Quality of service, Level of customer support
I have had this service for 6 months and it doesn't work. I always get echoes and poor connections where someone cannot hear me. Two weeks ago my unit stopped working and I haven't been able to get a replacement. So not only is their phone service terrible but so is their customer response. You can only communicate with them via a chat and the people are poorly trained and the service is horribly slow. Stay away from them and stick with skype.

Magicjack
by dagiordano ,May 24 '08
Pros: It works on most PC's
Cons: Bad customer service, bad charge policy, false advertising
I ordered the Majicjack on a Monday night and received it Friday, not bad I paid for the rush processing. Hooked it up on a small computer I have that’s hooked to my TV set and had problems with it. I think that the USB port on the machine did not have enough power and failed to run it properly so I hooked it on my main computer and it worked perfectly. I only have one big complaint about this company it was supposed to be a 30 day trial and they charged my credit card the day I ordered it, that is false advertising and is just bad business. All I can say is the product does work but if they can't afford to give 30 day trails then for heaven sake don't sucker people you will get many bad post's online and people will get turned off. Don't think another company will not take your business because they are already planning on competing and they might do it the right way.

Many problems
by jhood ,Sep 10 '08
Pros: It worked for the 1 conversation I had.
Cons: I spend more time problem solving than talking through it.
I am overseas, so I don't know if that makes a difference but I have an "error 3" message everyday. I do the "live chat" customer service and it gets resolved in over an hour (for the evening). The service is bad and the reps do not seem to be native speakers, so communicating is difficult. This is my third day of trying to correct this problem and it has been very frustrating. I have asked if this problem with reoccur and they say no, but that error message reappears. I should have waited for a more full-proof item.

majicjack
by epapi ,Feb 15 '09
Pros: When it works the calls have good clairity.
Cons: Great idea bad product.
Everyday I would pick up the phone and there would be no dial tone.  Sometimes hanging up would reset it.  Most of the time I had to replug the device in the usb and go through the one min start up before calling.  Could not count on having a phone in an emergency.
