Pros: Easy- Drinking; Good Aftertaste Cons: A Little Light; Not Like Other Black and Tan Styles
Arizona Beverage is a diversified beverage company that produces many products, from exotic teas, to iced coffee, to juice drinks. The company was founded in 1992 by Don Vultaggio and John Ferolito, two New York entrepreneurs with a taste for fine...
Pros: Bottle would make a nice flower vase for the kitchen of a double-wide Cons: Too light with uninteresting flavor profile marred by flaws
Show of hands here....has anybody not seen those big ugly jugs of Mississippi Mud in the beer aisle of their friendly local liquor stores? The things seem to be everywhere. For years I've managed to bypass them without a second thought, absolutely ...
Pros: Very drinkable Cons: None, less you only drink Bud
I've never really been a black and tan drinker, and have only tried them from time to time if someone else was drinking one, or if it was bought for me. The latter was the case with this Mississippi.
Pros: a fun beer that doesn’t take itself too seriously as a gourmet brew Cons: not that flavorful, maybe too much carbonation
This is not the greatest tasting black-and-tan beer, but it is nevertheless a fun alternative and something that is definitely worth a taste and a try.
This dark, reddish-brown beer is a blend of porter and pilsener beers. It is high in...
Pros: Not an offending taste Cons: Hardly any taste
With a name like Mud, I expected a thick and dark black and tan, full flavored and imposing. Just what I wanted in a beer. Unfortunately, it turned out to be more tan and not enough black.
I understand black and tan doesn't mean porter, but my...
Pros: Nice bottle Cons: Lacking taste and character, thin.
While perusing the shelves at the local bottle store I came across a bottle of Mississippi Mud - Black and Tan Beer. The bottle was instantly intriguing and promised an old style of beer with heaps of flavor. Always on the look out for a new brew to try...
Pros: Interesting Flavor, Good Cold Or Room Temperature Cons: Not Really A Black & Tan
I should start out by saying that Mississippi Mud is not a black and tan. I realize that this is what it says on the label, but it is just not true. A true black and tan has a complex mixture of flavors, a full body, and is pretty stout. Mississippi...
Pros: Okay blend of two distinct beers; fair coffee aftertaste. Cons: Not for heavy beer drinkers looking for quality taste/thickness.
It's funny how things change over time
06-18-01 Update: Mississippi Mud Black and Tan is definitely not in my top five favorites. It's not in my top ten or top twenty even. I'm not sure what it was exactly that had me writing...
Pros: Strong and flavorful, approaching stout class... Cons: May be too intense for some drinkers...
It's kinda weird that the greatest country on the planet hasn't been able to top Ireland's gift to the world, Guinness Stout. Take heart, though, beer lovers, the greatest city in the world has taken a shot at it and may or may not have missed the mark,...
I love this beer, it is my favorite Black and Tan beer. I live in Omaha and it is somewhat difficult to find this beer, not to many people have heard about it, but hopefully the more people I tell about will try and spread the word. This beer is so...
Pros: Wonderfull taste, not too heavy Cons: Despite some opinions, terrible warm.
It's awfully hard to tell you something about this beer that hasn't already been said here. So in light of improving it's image I must agree that Mississippi Mud is actually one of the tastiest beers I've had the pleasure of slurping down my parched...
Pros: Jugs!. Taste, Price Cons: Inverted, Where's the 32 oz jugs
Mississippi Mud is the AriZona Beverage Companies attempt at duplicating a British tradition, the black & tan, as an American brew. It is an attempt worth noting. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Mississippi Mud and only regret not finding a 32 oz...
Pros: Good, medium bodied flaver Cons: Not really a "black and tan"
Initially, the bottle caught my attention. Of all of the beer bottles I have ever encountered, this one is truly exceptional. So much so, that every empty container I have given away has been given a place of respect on a shelf or knick-knack table....
Pros: Good Beer, Large Quantity, Designer Bottle Cons: Not sold at gas stations or small stores hehe
This beer is really good...They blended a robust English Porter beer with a fine Continental Pilsner and preserved the character of each and came out with Black and Tan.. I really didn't know what to expect and asked several people what they thought of...
Black and Tan has a special place in my heart, and I was introduced to this magical wold of alcoholic alchemy by this large, odd jug. MM has a strong body and a surprisingly subtle taste, something that keeps it flying off the shelves at Trader Joe's (a...
Pros: aroma, taste, not too expensive Cons: you eventually drink the whole thing
You're at home. It's been a long day of work or watching tv and you want a beer. A good beer. A dark beer. Actually you want a black and tan, but don't want to go through the effort of getting bass and guinness and making one float on the other. I mean...
Pros: Best damn beer I've tried in a while! Cons: Not cheap!
Old Dave likes beer. I could claim to have to have a body by Budwieser but that wouldn't be the complete truth. My body is due to the fact that my wife is such a wonderful cook and part is due to beer.
Pros: Good tasting beer. Cons: Expensive and hard to find.
I have a little different information about the Mississippi Mud beer than Ingrid. I don't know where she is writing from but I do agree that it is not readily available. I had to drive seventy-five miles, one way, to buy one bottle for $2.99 each. I had...
Pros: unique taste, cute bottle Cons: a bit expensive for the casual beer drinker
Well, I'm not sure who my opinion will be useful to. I am not into all types of beers. and definately, this was the first black and tan I ever tasted. I'm not a really experianced beer drinker. I usually stick to lite beers for the lower calories. I...
While I am generally cynical about the idea of a pre-packaged, pre-mixed black and tan, I thoroughly enjoy Mississippi Mud's version of my all time favorite beverage! The dark taste of Guiness mixed with a refreshing lager is not lost in its bottled...
Pros: Price, smoothness Cons: not complex for "serious" beer drinkers
I have to admit, this is my favorite "drinkin' beer." For a BYOB get-together with friends, nothing can beat dragging around a 32 oz. (1 quart) jug of Mississippi Mud.
I feel it should be said right off that Mud is not a...
Pros: Wide mouth bottle Cons: Large bottle to carry around in a bar.
I have to say the only true black and tan is Guinness Layered over Bass. Some people get the Irish version of Harp layered over Guinness which is know as a Half and Half. I would not go to Ireland walk into a pub and ask for a Black and Tan. The...
Pros: Great with a lot of different foods Cons: 32ozs. in a jug
What a great combo, a truly robust porter combined with a very good pilsner. This Black and Tan is all that!!!. I usually try to taste a few different kinds of beer, some I manage to come back to and others, well let's just say didn't quite make...
Pros: smooth, rich bodied Cons: needs to be poured in a glass...don't drink from bottle
i tried this beer for the first time in Chicago at dick's last resort a few years ago. i loved it! it was smooth and very rich.
a full bodied beer, i think.
any one who likes a dark beer should try this.
i found this beer in many of the...
Pros: Good taste Unique Bottle Cons: Not available in alot of areas
I first found this beer I was on a military base in New York and was at one of the few places to eat that we could access. The first thing you will notice is the great bottle that this beer comes in and I figured that at the very least I would have a ...
Pros: A smooth, tasty, British style brew. Cons: Dumb name
Though the bottle says that this is a "black and tan" style brew, it really isn't. It is much more akin to "brown and bitter," a 50/50 mixture of bitter and brown ale popular in English pubs. If you are looking for the dark complexities of a black and...
This Mississippi Mud is exactly that. Mud! It belongs in the bottom of the Mississippi River. This is an American macro-brew attempt at capitalizing on the well know drink mixture of Guinness and Bass. Mississippi Mud is a poor attempt at the unique...
Pros: Rich full flavor hits the spot Cons: The 32 oz jug might be too big sometimes
I figured the bottle was a gimmick to attract more customers, but this Black & Tan beer is perfect for sitting around with guys and enjoying a smooth dark beer. This beer is too good to be "chugged," it should be savored, and enjoyed....
Pros: Incredibly smooth, thick but not too thick Cons: Little carbonation, pretty flat
...at least that I've had. I've had better tans, and I've had better blacks (Guinness Stout still rules), but I've had no black and tan better than Mississippi Mud.
It's that good. It's very smooth, like chocolate milk going down. The black...
Pros: Unique bottling, nice smooth taste Cons: Only comes in four-pack
This is a very nice beer for those of you who like Black and Tans. This Mississippi Mud, as far as I am aware of, is a Southern Louisiana specialty. I think this because I have not seen it in other places. The packaging it comes in makes it very...
Pros: Nice bottleGreat to pourIts really smoothReally Good Dark Beer! Cons: Expensive...32oz is $4...Look like a hick if you drink it out of the bottle
First, the name like many have said...is not appealing....But the bottle is very attracting! I have tasted many beers, so i decided to try this one. I bought the 32oz jug and split it between me and a another reviewer. We were ...
Great Taste, Less Filling...MS. MUD!!! by kenobossman129 ,Mar 16 '08
Pros: Great Taste/Great Price/Less filling than dark beers Cons: Not enough stores carry this product.
By far this is the best beer and beer deal I've found in my beer drinking days. I've been taking Mississippi Mud to my competitive tennis matches and everybody wants to know where I buy it. For the price ($2.99 a quart), it's now my favorite beer. I like it better than the expensive imports, and I've tried most of them! (I find mine at Trader Joe's in the Atlanta area). The biggest problem I have is finding the beer. Only a few shops have it in the Atlanta market. Hopefully more store will carry this product as the demand increases. Just give it a try and I think you'll agree with me about the quality of this product... It's also a conversation piece!
