Pros: Lightweight, 45lbs. helps offroading, trailriding.  Aluminum alloy frame, light and stong.
Cons: Uncomfortable seat.  Aluminum crank arm threads can easily be damaged.  Front shock unadjustable, weak.
Having recieved the bike as a gift, I had no say whether I wanted this bike or not, but i'm glad I got it.  I'm not sure of other versions, but mine is a mens' (adult 14 and up) two-tone silver/purple with 26" wheels.  The front wheel is ...

Good Bike For The Buck

by nielson51 , Dec 09 '06
Pros: Cheap, Good for Light Riding
Cons: Have to constantly tune up.
A few months ago, I was thinking about how I could save money on transportation. There is no bus service in the small town that I live in. I decided to by a bicycle instead of driving so much. I decided I didn't want the most expensive bike out there. I ...

No other bike comes close for the money.

by slartibart , Oct 30 '03
Pros: Nice Shamano Shifter/Gears, excellent construction quality, well balanced bike for the money.
Cons: Front Fork Spring is non-adjustable. Weak rims. Not ready to ride out of store.
I just picked this bike up about a week ago. I've ridden it every day since and I am very impressed. This is my first full suspension bike. I have ridden mostly BMX style bikes in the past. This bike is not a world class downhill bike, nor does it ...

Mongoose XR-100

by sumaddress , Jul 13 '03
Pros: It has a very smooth ride period. The shocks and spring hold up great.
Cons: The only thing I didn't like was that the brake cord rubs your bake leg.
What really brought my attention to the bike was the outstanding shiny, red frame. Then as I looked ...

Better than expected!

by mongoose_xr100 , May 22 '03
Pros: Great Price, perfect beginner mountain bike, excellent parts.
Cons: Seat post too long for people with shorter legs, tighten all parts before riding.
My wife and I wanted to start biking on hiking and bike trails near our home. But my faithful and solid GT Pro-freestyle tour BMX bike was a bit out of my age range now and my wife did not want to be seen with me riding my BMX on the local trails or in...

Mongoose XR-100 (performance at a great price)

by arieztiger , Apr 24 '03
Pros: Dual Suspension, Shimano Revo twist 21-speed drivetrain, and the sleek/strong design of 7005 Alloy Frame.
Cons: Overall Weight: Somewhat heavier compared to your more expensive brands. Seat can be uncomfortable.
I've owned the XR-100 for over 3 weeks now and had no problems with it at all. However, I respect what Flanderflop had to say about the XR-100 and the tips he gave even though they didn't pertain to my situation.

The XR-100 I purchased...

XR-100, a great bike!

by semperfortis , Mar 08 '03
Pros: Nice grip handlebars and pedals, sleek design and good shock absorption.
Cons: Seat may be too narrow and cause discomfort for some riders.
I purchased this bike yesterday and already I can see I made a great choice.

The aluminum frame is lightweight allowing faster speeds but tough enough ride down a bumpy mountain road just fine. The shock absorption is good but not outstanding...

Not Safe

by FlanderFlop Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Dec 14 '02
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Not assembled properly, cheap
I spend a good deal of time on bikes, so some people may consider me a bit of a bike snob, but I don’t hold it against people if they purchase a cheap bicycle from Wal-Mart, especially if it is for their kids who will out grow it quickly, or if they...

Have had my MG XR100 for several years now.
by ezriding ,Dec 17 '05
Pros: Excellent gearing, remarkable suspension, looks cool.
Cons: Seat hurts, tires don't hold air long.
I use it as little as weekly, as much as daily.
My wifey bought it for me and I needed to adjust the seat and handle bars, as well as a little adjustment to the brakes. But that can be expected since they have teenagers putting these things together at the Wal-Marts and such. I always garage it, clean it, and keep it lubed. I find that I must frequently re-inflate the tires about once a week. The seat hurt, so I bought a seat pad which didn't help too much.

Over all it ranks somewhere between my 70's JC Penney special and my Schwinn (both having departed in one way or another).

I guess I love my Mongoose.
