Great looking bike for occasional rides on even terrains. It is for children only!

by constantine2 , Aug 29 '03
Pros: Looks more expensive than it costs. Dual suspension for this price is a bargain.
Cons: SRAM shifting gears are a nuisance, brakes need major adjustments.

Worst Ride Ever

by lomans_revenge , Aug 23 '08
Pros: Was, in fact, a functioning bicycle that carried me from point A to point B.
Cons: Too heavy, crap components, not durable at all.
I actually borrowed this bike from a friend when my MGX Something-Or-Other crapped out (handlebars fell entirely out of place, and the nut holding the mess together snapped off the weld....that's another story though). When borrowed, I was told: ...

Five years later and still going...
by mikelucky ,Jun 20 '07
Pros: Price, value, suspension, fully assembled, looks great, handles well, easy to clean and maintain
Cons: what do you want for 100 bucks?
I bought this bike in 2002, like everyone else from Wal-Mart for 100 bucks, and rode it several times then stuck it under an overhang behind my shed. I just took it out today and cleaned it up, oiled it and took it for a quick 3 mile spin. I didn't even tighten anything up. If it weren't for the rust on the chrome parts and the slight rust on the chain i would think the bike was brand new. It shifted quickly and quietly and if the tires weren't so old and a bit rotten I would have taken it off-road.

I need to tighten the suspension a bit but I hope to use this bike to train until October when I compete in an adventure race. That's when i will decide whether to replace it or not.

Needless to say, this bike is a great value.

1700 miles and still going
by jcworley1 ,Mar 04 '05
Pros: Cost, dependability, durability, ease of use
Cons: Heavy! Probably like all mountain bikes.
I bought three of these bikes from Walmart. 1 for the wife, 1 for the daughter and the 26" for me. Since the purchase 3 years ago, my wife and I have put well over 1700 miles each on our bikes. She suffered one flat on her bike and we all have the original equipment on the machines. I would say for 100 bucks each, you can beat this for an entry level/exercise bike. We have enjoyed them. We are now replacing the bikes, but not because they are worn out. They are not. We want bikes that will allow us to go faster and farther. That is all.

Pretty nice!
by maynaze2k5 ,Feb 15 '05
Pros: Nice design, comfort, handling, gears work great!
Cons: Reflectors kind of flimsy...
I bought the DXR from Walmart and I was pleasantly suprised at it's handling and comfort. For 100 bucks, you can't beat this bike, it seems very durable and come assembled at most stores. A great bike at a great price!

Some problems, but a good bike.
by kc8ukw ,Aug 21 '05
Pros: Durable, Easily Maintained, Nice Looking
Cons: Rusted at store, Small problems quickly developed
I bought this bike about a month ago, and have had a generally good time with it. It is nice to ride, and looks different enough from many other bikes to make it easy to find. I found some rust on the bike as soon as I got it back from the store on the seat base, but this was easily sanded off and painted over. I've also had problems with the front brakes sitting too close to the tire, and the shifter quickly getting out of alignment (so that I couldn't get into 1 on one of the gears, and 6 and 7 were essentially the same.) Some of these problems you should be able to look into at the store. That said, the bike is easy to maintain and comes with an excellent manual.

Comfort Bike with great features.
by swaussie ,Oct 20 '04
Pros: Comfort, handling, nice design, vaule for money, free assembly from certain stores.
Cons: Made in China, some cheaper components like reflectors not overly durable.
After much research to buy a good all-round mountain bike for value, the Mongoose DXR Aluminium 26" is a great choice. I bought 2 x 26" DXR's and 3 x 20" DXR's from Walmart for $100.00 each and after fine tuning and test riding the bikes are exceptionally comfortable and easy smooth ride.
Overall Construction is good, gearing is smooth and rider comfort and handling excellent. A great value for a good mountain bike.

O.K. Bike
by kneeboardpro9 ,Dec 21 '04
Pros: Uhhhhh, were there any? (other than the after-market components)
Cons: EVERYTHING!!!!!
I bought this bike in 2001 when my other bike broke. I bought it at walmart then a day later a tooth on a sprocket broke. over the two years that i had this bike i had so many problems (Sprockets, derailuers, Brakes, RUST, suspension, etc...). My dad bought this bike from me when i got a new one and had to replace all the brakes, cables, and shifters. I now hav the aluminum model of this bike with upgraded components since the old ones were junk. I would not recomend this bike for any serious riders, only beginners. I am now planning to get the new Mongoose XR200 and put Shimano XTR shifters and Maxis mechanical disk brakes on it. I hope it is a better bike than the DXR.
