Pros: The basic functions are all there: 2 lines, voicemail, etc., and voice quality is ok. Cons: Very poor useability: Cannot mute incoming calls, poor visibility of buttons and screen, many bugs.
I bought this system to replace a multi-remote 2 line Siemens 8825, which I loved, but which had continuous problems with the answering machine on the base. It had a great feature set, terrific audio, and was very user-friendly. But I thought now is ...

Worst phone I ever had
by johanneswtrost ,Jan 29 '07
Pros: None Cons: Phone book, terrible functions, heavy hand set, slow, poor display
I bought this phone because I need 2 phone lines and several hand sets for upstairs, downstairs, etc.
Like all Motorola phones, the software is the worst thing, you need to press countless buttons to get to the most frequently used simple functions. Like the phone book: It has a public phone book for base station and hand sets, and every hand set has additional private phone book (base station has no private phone book). So every time you have to chose public phone book. And the software is slow, you need to wait after every key press. It is worth noting that the display is not very readable. The handsets use a set of 3 AA rechargeable batteries, so it is so heavy that it resemble weight lifting while you are on the phone. I could spend another 30min to list disadvantages. Anyhow, I am returning this phone and recommend: Do not buy it regardless how cheap it is.

totally unreliable
by flymike ,Aug 17 '06
Pros: headset jack on cordless units Cons: cordless units are unreliable
The base unit repeatedly loses contact with all of the MD7001 cordless units - always during a call. The cordless units show "out of range", and take about 10 minutes to re-register themselves to the base unit before they can be used again. In a call of 1-hour duration, this can happen 3 or 4 times.
Motorola tech support's only solution is to remove the base unit's power and batteries when this happens.
Who wants to do this 3 or 4 times an hour?

terrible quality
by quality4me ,Feb 03 '07
Pros: good features Cons: unfortunately, they do not work
Very disappointing product. The phones can say out of range when I am in line of sight with the base. Even when in range and functioning, the sound quality is the worst I have experienced.

Shame on us
by iamhung ,Dec 11 '05
Pros: Good feature set, 5.8GHz and two lines Cons: Doesn't work in some environments with other phones.
I work for Mot and purchased this phone at a discount and I'm going to return it for the same problems as mentioned on Amazon's site. The phone doesn't ring when there are other phone on the line. I have the Motorola MD7081 at home but it seems to work fine, but it too has issues with ringing late and the ringer not shutting off. I can live with this because I have most of the ringer turned off because of the baby.
But the new system isn't making the cut. The phone detects caller ID and lights up but doesn't ring. I can't believe we allowed our name to go onto this product. Hopefully we will do what is right and pull it off the shelf and not release it until these problems are fixed. So much for 6 sigma quality.
