Pros: Speakerphone, very easy to use. Cons: Haven't found any yet.
So yesterday my husband and I were walking a Mall, I had no intention of purchasing anything and I ended up with the Motorola V188 GSM phone. A young gentleman in Citrus Park Mall asked me if I was happy with my service and my phone. I said ...
Pros: nice selection of ringtones, speakerphone!, hold feature Cons: can be more durable, speakerphone could be slightly improved
“Ahhh!” I screamed as the coaster went down that first 400ft. drop. Yes, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure is a thriller. But it’s also a cell phone killer. What did I know that my Samsung had fallen out of my pocket, most likely during that first drop? ...
Pros: Good initial battery, plenty of basic features, lots of ring tones, good call quality Cons: Occasionally does not ring on incoming calls.
Update 09/10/2005: We figured out the issue with the phone not ringing. This phone will allow you to lower the volume with two small arrow keys on the outside side of the phone. You can lower the volume to vibrate or silent and that is why my ...
Pros: Simple to use, for someone who wants to just use a phone. Great speakers. Cons: Little buttons. Sometimes numbers are hard to press and register. T-mobile has problems.
The MOTOROLA V188 Cell Phone is probably one of the simpler phones to use for most of us that just want a cell phone to mainly just talk. Introduced in 1995, this Motorola&

Pros: very durable. good speaker phone. easy to use. Cons: ring tones are annoying. does not have very many features.
I have had this phone for over 6 months now, and it has been very good to me. Motorola, in my opinion, makes the most durable and reliable phones on the market. This phone does not have a ton of features, but it gets the job done for someone who wants ...
This last June, our family share plan contract from Verizon was up for renewal. Despite their "new every two", we got a far better deal from T-Mobile with two free Motorola v188's and a nothing, at all, up front - out of our pockets. I've only owned ...
Pros: small, nice blue backlight, various features Cons: screen blacks out, trouble running tzones
I got my Motorola V188 phone in June 05. My husband was going to leave on a six month deployment and I didn't want to be waiting next to the house phone. I previously had the V180. It was a good phone but a bad carrier. I had waited six months to go to ...
Pros: nice size, nice color screen, good reception Cons: scratches and dents too easily, can't charge phone using USB data cable.
I have similar comments about this phone that other people have. It scratches too easily. I have only had my phone for a year or so and it already looks very worn. The color display on it is very nice. I have pictures of my two kids on my phone and it ...
Very good no-frills phone by hbj200 - Top 1000,May 05 '06
Pros: Solid; good sound quality; fairly easy to use; good battery life; flip design Cons: Looks a big cheap
I'm in the pro-V188 camp. I think it's a solid, good-quality cell phone. The color screen is a bit small compared to more expensive phones, but hey, you get this for free before the generous rebate, so stop complaining about this not being a high-end phone, for it's not meant to be a high-end phone. It has good reception and voice quality, and is built rather like a tank: solid, durable, a little on the thick side. If you want something stylish go with a RAZR or PEBL or SLVR. If you want something small and lasts forever, go with a Sanyo PCS phone for Sprint. But the V188 is a good basic phone, no doubt about that.
Pros: small, sound quality, color screens Cons: became defective after 10 months
This phone has a nice design and colorful screen. It is small without the plastic feel of some flip phones.
The battery life is good. I talk about one hour a day and only re-charge about every 3 days.
The ring tones sound very clear, if your're a fan of hifi ringers like I am. The sound quality is excellent. Others will hear no background noises, i.e. when you're in the car or a restaurant.
My phone became defective after 10 months. It just stopped ringing out of the blue and the speaker stopped working. Not due to user error or physical damage. The phone was still under warranty and T-Mobile replaced it at no charge.
I bought this product as an "upgrade" from the Nokia. (I must say that I now miss my Nokia, it's battery life, etc.)
I like the size of this phone, the texting capabilities, interior design and light weight, but that's about it.
My husband and I both "upgraded" to this phone. After about three months, his started getting progressively more staticy on both incoming and outgoing calls. Soon you couldn't hear him at all, just static.
TMobile sent us a replacement at no charge and everything was fine with the new one.
Now two months later, my V188 is doing the SAME thing! Starts out with just a bit of static and it is progressively getting worse.
I would not recommend this phone. It is obviously a product error.
Good headset support but bad time display by jezma ,Nov 01 '05
Pros: Standard headset jack. Cons: No time display while connected.
I cannot judge the reception of this phone as it came with my new T-Mobile service, so I have nothing to compare it with.
I got this phone principally because all the other phones offered for free at T-Mobile used a non-standard headset jack making it hard for me use my existing headsets. This phone has a standard headset jack that should work with most any "universal" headset.
It has a speaker phone capability which works, but again this is the first cell phone I have had with such a feature, so I cannot tell how good it is relative to other phones.
One thing I do not like about this phone is that there is no way to see a time display while you are connected. This is no big deal if your calls are short, but if you are connected for some time this is a problem; I am accustomed to using my cell phone as a watch.
UPDATE (27 May 2006) The basic features seem sound. The lack of a current-time display while connected is still annoying. Also, if you are talking to someone with the headset connected, and you unplug the headset, the call disconnects.
Motorola V188: Features are good but battery life bad by voicesfollow ,Jul 14 '06
Pros: Aol instant messenger, web access, speaker phone Cons: Battery life, cheap black plastic styling case
I recently upgraded my phone from a samsung X426 with t-mobile to a Motorola v188 after i renewed my plan and the V188 packs alot of features, the sound quality is excellent, features are great and i only see 2 problems with this phone, the styling of the phone looks cheap. The black plastic casing on it makes it look like a toy or a beta version. Second the battery life is not all that great, i can talk for maybe a few hours and its done, standby time is about 3 days for me. Overall, the phone is in good working condition, just need to keep the phone fully charged whenever you're off to somewhere away from home.
