Moustache in the East Village is a great place for groups as well as for couples. They have an adorable enclosed garden in the summer time, which is your best bet--otherwise it gets very crowded. I recommend trying lots of little dishes that you can...

Pros: great food, cozy atmosphere, reasonably priced Cons: service so-so at times, small space can be very crowded at times
The food at Moustache, though somewhat limited, is delicious and reasonably priced. I recommend to go hungry and do sharesies - great first date place. If you enjoy Middle Eastern cuisine, you won't be disappointed and go off hours to avoid crowd.
