I saw "Movin' Out" this past weekend and had high hopes, but I was very disappointed. I expected it to be like "Mamma Mia," but it was not. The show is basically people dancing to one Billy Joel song after another, and there isn't much of a story. There is no dialogue, which was very annoying. I could not bring myself to care about the characters and could not tell them apart. I was bored. If I had not read the plot summary in the program, I would have been totally lost. Even still, I didn't appreciate the thin plot or the characters.

The music was good, but my money would have been better spent buying a CD of Billy Joel's greatest hits.

The dancing was impressive, but it got boring after the first couple songs. I can only watch people twist, twirl, and gyrate so much -- it gets old very fast. It was just like watching a music video, really.

Save your money, see something else. This is a very dull musical. Trying to put Billy Joel's songs together does not fit and doesn't work. It's very difficult to figure out the story because there's no dialog throughout the entire program and the songs does not explain at all. Though the dancers are fabulous, it's hard not to get bored after repeating the same acrobatic steps over and over. To understand the show, it'll help to read the summary in Playbill. The story is weak nonetheless. Several people in front of me walked out when the intermission came. I don't blame them. Luckily, it was not a long show. This is a waste of my time and money. How can something this bad make it to Broadway? My guess is, it will not last.

Pros: Sound was great, Props were great, Actors/Actresses were great!
Cons: If you don't like Billy Joel,its not for you.

I loved this play. Went with my girlfriend and it definitely kept me awake and interested. The music was excellent, singers were great. Very professional and very good actors/actresses. This was a night out in the town and was something to see. If you like Billy Joel, you can't miss this. The stage, background, the settings were awesome. The quality of the music was unbelievable, it wasn't too loud but you could definitely here it. Was nice to sing along with!

...as a life long Billy Joel fan I was expecting a little more, like something close to a talented production. I enjoy the theatre and I like Billy Joel...you would think a no-brainer to go and see Movin Out, the obvious lack of a brain was on their side not mine. It was truly a complete waste of 2-hours that I am sad to say my wife and I will never get back...they should sell hemlock instead of t-shirts...

I must say Michael Cavanagh had some big shoes to fill (Billy Joel), but he pulls it off and then some. He is incredible and worth seeing in his own right. The soundtrack is a Best Hits of Billy Joel. All the songs are performed by Micheal Cavanagh on a stage that goes up and down throughout the performance. I was under the impression that some of the actors would sing some of the pieces but it appeared that the whole cast were dancers. The dancing was a bit cheesy for some songs but the scene to We Didn't Start the Fire was incredible. I got 2 tickets through Ticketmaster and it ended up being $96. Not too bad. We sat in the back but had a great view of everything. Don't go in hungry or thirsty because a bottled water and Coke cost me $7.50. All in all it is a fun NYC event to see.

Well the problem may be I saw the Producers the night before with Mr. Lane and Mr. Broderick... Nothing probably could hold a flame next to that. I am a huge Billy Joel fan, I have seen him in concert a few times, ok more than a few, and I have to say it felt like a Billy Joel concert rather than a Broadway musical. I have been to several Broadway shows including Mama Mia, and I have to say Mama Mia was better. The story was what I thought needed much improvement and I have to say sitting there with my mother the Captain Jack routine was a bit over the top not a family show in case you were wondering. The part I did enjoy was the actual singer he was great. He made the show enjoyable for me. It was almost as if Billy Joel was there himself.

Pros: Great vocals by band. Beautiful ballet pieces.
Cons: They just don't work together. Not an enjoyable experience.

Don't go...this show is a complete waste of time and money. If you like Billy Joel's music, spare yourself the agony of seeing his music interpreted through ballet- it just doesn't work. If you like ballet, go see a real ballet. I'm a fan of both, but did not like the forced combination at all. If you get to see the show for free, great! Then you can get up and walk out during the show guilt-free.

Not what I expected! My wife and I planned on seeing a show with some acting and dancing. We did not realize the entire show was a chorus line from a blue collar stand point. Very Good but not what we wanted!
