Nationwide Air

Pros: Flight are 98% on time, arrival and departure.Very dependable.
Cons: Fares are high in comparison to other internal carriers who don't offer in flight meals.

I frequently fly with Nation Wide Airlines between Cape Town and Johannesburg and am willing to state that value for money and service, they are simply the best.
Fares are high but the service is well worth it, they offer full meals and a bar...

Pros: Good seating. Good frequent flyer program.
Cons: Maybe a little expensive on short hauls. Route network not that big...yet

Nationwide airlines was one of the origonal babys after deregulation in the South African Aviation market. Nationwide always used to use the old BAC-111 but these have been phased out and they are now using 737's. The network is fairly extensive from their hub in Johannesburg they travel to all the major South African centres as well as Kilimanjaro and Livingston on the Zambian side of the Victoria falls. The airline is clean and offers good value for money even with the price being below that of BA and SAA on the same routes. With Kulula.com starting up on the no frills side this is even cheaper and must be considered when flying a short flight of under an hour. I belive Nationwide are condidering flying to London Gatwick in 2004 so it may be an interesting addition to the usual suspects on the London SA route. Interestingly Nationwide is a full member of the Virgin Flyingclub frequent flyer scheme so you can earn and redeem miles with both Virgin and nationwide.

Nationwide has secured a Johannesburg to london gatwick route starting at the end of Novemebr 2003.

Pros: Helpful staff.
Cons: None really.

I flew twice on Nationwide in Sept 06 - Johannesburg to Livingstone in Zambia, and return. The planes are older with a 3 + 3 seating configuration. The staff in Joburg was great. The flights were fine - no problems at all. They gave us drinks and sandwiches both ways. I would certainly fly them again.
