Using WGPS606 as a wireless enet bridge

by jablowme , Oct 15 '08
Pros: Wireless bridge with 4-port switch, under $80.
Cons: Not Apple friendly. Set up is an nightmare.
Its a wireless print server which can also be configured to be used as a wireless ethernet bridge. The device allows you to plug in up to two USB printers (check Netgear website for compatibility, since not all printer are supported) and up to four ...

Look no further, your all in one wifi home office solution!

by 1GQ Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, May 07 '05
Pros: Cost effective, strong wireless range, and very well designed.
Cons: No on/off switch
I first came across the WGPS606 on Netgear's website long before its actual release. This is a unique product in the home office market because it combines three technologies into a single device; wireless ethernet bridge, wirless print server, and a ...

Relatively Easy Install for 2 Printers

by navy85 , Dec 31 '05
Pros: Smart wizard assistant for installation; 2 USB printer ports; 4-port switch
Cons: Troubleshooting documentation is somewhat limited; not compatible with all printers.
After a rocky start trying to get my computers to recognize the print server in the wired mode and a call to Tech Support to resolve it (turning off my wireless connection seemed to be the solution), I was able to set up two computers and two printers in ...

Worst Set Up Ever

by jfullreviewer , Jan 13 '08
Pros: Can't think of any...
Cons: They are legion... set-up, documentation, customer support
Having used many different computers (Mac and PC) and installed a variety of devices and software, I have to conclude that this is THE WORST NIGHTMARE to install of any such product I have ever used. The "Set-up Wizard" is a pathetic error message ...

Refurb unit a bargain even if used only as 4-port wireless switch

by edactic , Jan 21 '07
Pros: Excellent network bridge: An AP client with 4-port switch.
Cons: A bit tedious to set up. Have not tested USB print server.
So far have not yet used this product as a USB print server, but have used its built-in 4-port switch and capabilities as a wireless network bridge, both for connecting to a network print server (see below) and for providing connectivity to multiple PC ...

Print Server, Installation frustrating, but works fine
by randysom ,Dec 26 '05
Pros: Two USB printer ports
Cons: Documentation used for set up
The documentation that came with the unit was incomplete. It would impact a technology novice negatively...like me. The help desk helped a little, not a lot. Finally got it going. I did pick up a Netgear wireless router as I heard that sometimes a mix of brands does not always go well.

The set up was a wired one, which is OK. I have had it for over a month and has been working great. I love being able to print from various locations of the house.

Needs Stability Improvements
by truecosumer ,Jan 16 '06
Pros: Works great as wireless bridge.
Cons: Not very stable for heavy printing.
Works great as wireless bridge, but as wireless USB print server it is lacking. I purchased this to run two printers via usb connections(Brother 1440 and HP 7110), one network printer via cat5 (QMS 2350), one DVR via cat5 (TIVO), and one pc via cat5.

It works great for the PC, DVR and network printer but the two USB printers lock up frequently and cause lots of garbage output. After trying to get the wireless print server features to work without error for two days, I gave up and now just share the printers off the PC.

If you are planning on printing "a lot" or "graphics", this is not the print server for you. It is not stable enough.

If you want to use it as a wireless bridge and print text occasionally it's fine.

It works with no problems
by broadma ,Jan 08 '06
Pros: 2 USB ports; 4 port integrated switch; wireless
Cons: None..unless its not compatible with your printer
Needed a wireless print server to work with my HP photosmart 7350. I have a single laptop that is wireless and contacted to a wireless D-link router. I wanted to be able to print to my printer wirelessly. Best advice I received before buying this product was to make sure that the print server is compatible with your printer. Netgear and Dlink both post compatibility lists for their product. Didnt see one for Linksys. Installation was easy with the wizard. If you have a photosmart printer 7350 and want to connect make it wireless, I recommend this product. The only negative I noticed was that there was a small delay until printing starts the farther you are away from the printer server.

Works Like a Champ
by danal01 ,Sep 07 '05
Pros: 2 USB ports; 4 port integrated switch; Provides remote wired ports over wireless
Cons: Setup can be tricky as with any print server.
I have had no issues with this unit after installation. The unit does require a PC (hardwire) to configure but once that is done, the unit is left to operate as a wireless USB print server (2 printers!) and a remote 4 port switch. Another review mentioned that you needed to keep a PC attached but that is NOT the case in my installation.
I have a remote office in my house and it is VERY convenient to be able to connect up to 2 printers to this unit for all household PC's to access. I also often work on PCs in this remote office.....how handy it is to just connect into the switch provided for immediate internet access without having wires running down to my central office!!

Print Server
by rllanes ,Aug 05 '05
Pros: can add more PC's, Wireless
Cons: Does not work as stand alone print server. Requires a physically attached computer to work.
I purchased this product a month ago. The first one I bought stopped working when left idle for longer than 15 minutes, and required a reboot to work again. It works fine if you have a dedicated computer physically attached to it, but I use all wireless at home. Anyway, I returned the product back to newegg.com (quick service by the way) and received my new print server. Same problem, does not work as a stand alone, not unless you like restarting every time you need to print. On top of that, the second one I received has a bad port 1. Does not function at all. So now all I can attach is one printer only to port 2. This product is not a true wireless unit and is dependent on a physically attached computer. If you have a desktop physically attached and use a wireless laptop to roam around the house, this product is for you. If not, look elsewhere.

Easy to install and fast . . . what not to like?
by bfhaith ,Aug 20 '06
Pros: installation ease, number of ports (2 USB, 4 ethernet)
Cons: None that I can think of.
This is a good, solid 54G print server/switch. The two USB and four ethernet ports make it a bargain for the price. Just remember to turn off Windows firewall while setting it up - a common requirement for network equipment. It's been working great and isn't noticeably slower than when the printer is hooked up to the computer directly via USB 2.0. Quite slick.
