The way to becoming a REAL runner

by biscuitfarmer Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Nov 05 '08
Pros: Excellent product, very customizable
Cons: Doubts that calorie counts are correct
About two months ago while searching through a Dick's Sporting Goods, I found myself looking around for a way to better understand how I run.  While this is easy when utilizing the numerous high tech treadmills that are strewn throughout my fitness ...

Motivating and a good incentive to buy another iPod!

by rnovak , Mar 11 '07
Pros: Inexpensive, easy to use, motivated me to walk until I joined a gym.
Cons: Web site and sync process were flaky on my Mac, battery not user-replaceable.
I gave myself a Product(Red) iPod Nano and the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit for a personal accomplishment in November (it involved 63000+ words, which will tell some of you what it was). I wanted the iPod Nano anyway, but didn't have a good reason to buy one (I ...

Good Enough For The Casual User Who Wants To Go Off-Road

by rmrsullivan , Apr 04 '07
Pros: Online tracking features for those of us too lazy to do it ourselves...
Cons: Inaccuracy: not for treadmill users, track runners, serious athletes, non-Nano owners
A little about me and what I wanted from this product: I am in the Army, and have to meet certain physical fitness requirements. Specifically, I have to run 2 miles in under 20 minutes. After my daughter was born I was anxious to get back ...

Great idea, but sensor dies after ~30 hours

by iamjames , Apr 01 '09
Pros: When it works it's great
Cons: Battery only lasts about 30 hours, battery is not replaceable
For those of you unfamiliar with the Nike+iPod, it's a "device which measures and records the distance and pace of a walk or run."  Sensor goes in your shoes, connect the receiver to your iPod and the iPod displays how fast and how far you have been ...

AWESOME Must Have

by hjakeway , May 28 '08
Pros: Great motivator and running diary of every run!
Cons: Does not work with other iPods just NANO.
Ok let me just tell you...I should buy Nike stock I have purchased so many of these as gifts. I LOVE THIS system. I am training for a marathon and have not taken a single step without my Nike+ in over a year!!! Note* I also run with a GPS watch. My ...

Not quite perfect, but incredible none-the-less

by mightyjoemc , Aug 22 '06
Pros: Excellent product for a great price. Great features and highly motivational for working out.
Cons: Chip attaches to Nano bottom and now won't let you close the normal iPod jackets.
This is just the next step for a running necessity now that I have it. When I first purchased my iPod Nano, once I used it for a run or on an elliptical, I could no longer do without it. Now that I've tried the Nike iPod for runs off the treadmill, I ...

A GREAT motivational tool

by megarunr , Nov 19 '08
Pros: easy to use, motivational, fun website
Cons: accuracy (sometimes)
I bought the Nike+ sensor/receiver when I was shopping for an mp3 player about a year and a half ago. My primary goal was to find something to wear to help alleviate the boredom of solo running. When I saw the Nike+ sensor/receiver kit, I thought: ...

Inexpensive, healthy add-on for the iPod Nano.

by chenley , Jun 10 '07
Pros: Inexpensive, easy to use, small size, great functionality on nike.com
Cons: Battery is not user replaceable. Only works with the Nano.
The Nike+ running accessory is a cool little attachment that will motivate you to walk or run more often. It's a very small slim transmitter that plugs into the bottom of the Nano. Then there is a receiver about the size of a quarter that is placed ...

A must have for any runner with a nano

by amesriggs , Apr 25 '08
Pros: Keeps track of your pace, calories burned, distance, and can track of your runs.
Cons: When batteries die you have to buy a new kit.
This may seem like a gimmick for nano but its not. I am a casual runner who always can use some extra motivation to run more. The Nike Sports kit is like a pedometer on steroids. I bought my Nano specifically for running about being able to set up ...

Great Product

Pros: Displays useful information for runs. Great motivational tool
Cons: Distance is off for advanced runners
I bought the Nike+ along with the nano at an apple store. I was an occasional runner and thought that this product would motivate me to run more frequently. I bought the shoes that go with this product and set it up fairly quickly. After taking the ...

Fun, Motivating Tool For Any Level Althete

by qwyley , Jan 06 '08
Pros: Fun, Easy to use, Motivational
Cons: Nike tries to sell you special shoes
When I first began running, I was looking for a way to track my progress and this kit was perfect. I already had an iPod, and I already ran while listening to it, so this kit was cheap and easy for me to use. When I first opened up the package, it was ...

A Great Product even for Beginners!!
by livsmom04 ,Jan 05 '07
Pros: Easy to use, love the powerplay song you can choose, the price isn't too risky
Cons: none
This is a great product for even the beginner joggers, walkers or runners. I have found it easy to use right out of the box and easy to set up. I don't have the Nike Plus Shoes but I do put the sensor under the insert of the shoe and place the shoe back on. It works great!! It's perfect and I hope to continue to use it everyday that I can with either my elliptical trainer or just walking and jogging in the neighborhood.

A must-have for runners!
by jesskp ,Feb 12 '07
Pros: Helps keep track of your workouts and challenges you to improve!
Cons: Once the battery in the sensor dies, you have to buy a new one
I'm training for my second mini-marathon, so I am a pretty serious runner. I like the running shoes I already have, so I didn't want to have to buy the special Nike shoes to put the sensor in. You can buy a plastic piece that ties into your laces so the sensor can fit on there and it works fine. I've had this for a month, and now I don't run without it---it keeps track of all your workouts--distance, calories burned, time, average mile time, etc. and automatically uploads them to the Nike website when you plug in your ipod nano. If you're using the headphones, a voice comes on periodically to say how many minutes or miles you have left, but I often use it without headphones if I'm running with someone else. If you have a nice armband, you barely even notice you're wearing it. It's amazing to see how you are progressing and easy to use. If you like to run outside, it can be hard to know how far you're really going, but you can calibrate this pretty easily and it is fairly accurate. I highly recommend this!

Easy affordable and fun
by nikazora ,Oct 06 '07
Pros: Easy to use. Inexpensive. Don't need special shoes.
Cons: Can't replace battery. iPod doesn't fit most armbands with Nike receiver attached.
I'm pretty new to running and thought this would help keep me motivated. In fact I bought a nano instead of some other MP3 player so I could use the Nike+. As a newbie I really like it. It does keep me motivated so it performs it's primary duty well. I can set simple, but useful goals on the website to keep me going. And some of the challenges are just plain fun. It couldn't be simpler to use (let's face it. If you cant figure this thing out you're not tying your own shoes). I didn't buy a pair of Nike+ shoes, nothing against them, Saucony just fit me better, so I had to make my own sensor pouch. With some scrap cloth, a little thread, and a little Velcro I managed a perfectly fine pouch for about $1.99.
I find it to be quite accurate with no calibration. I run a 3.88 mile trail and always get a reading between 3.76 and 3.90. That could just depend on how I run that day, either way it's close enough for me.
Bottom line: It's inexpensive, it works, and it's actually kind of fun.
